I was glad I was able to order it to my liking. One morning it was served with everything but the bagel seasoning. Steak top with chimichurri, potatoes and eggs with side toast. Coffee cup was never empty. Edwin was very attentive on our first day. Young lady with peace on her name tag was also attentive."

Jacqueline B. "I came here for carryout on a Friday. It seemed a little pricey for soul food, and I was not sharing, so I got two appetizers, the fried green tomatoes and shrimp tacos. I was not eating red meat or pork at the time, I'll try those when I have company.I placed the order with the friendly hostess. She told me half an hour but I got a text much sooner. The fried green tomatoes (after I heated them in the oven, not the microwave) were crisp, well breaded, and not too salty. The tacos (coming in a set of 3) ate more like a fajita, as it had shrimp, cheese, sauce, and small tortilla wrap bread; tacos usually have those things as well, but also lettuce or tomatoes, and a hard-like shell. I know it's not supposed to be authentic Mexican, it's just a 'soul taco' and it was so good I almost hate to quibble! I want to try the egg rolls next time (another interesting take on fusion ethnic food). I hope they get a liquor license, or at least waive the corkage fee, when I go back to dine in."

The flavors were spot-on, and the texture was just right. However, I was a bit disappointed with the fries. I was expecting the kind with a crunchy outside, but they turned out to be different and unfortunately became cold rather quickly. Despite that, I still had a great experience and would rate it a solid 4.5 out of 5. I'll definitely be coming back to try more items on the menu! Also, very kind front of house staff!"

Just sit back and order all three courses of a creative and taste bud-tastic meal. And then pay what is required. You will not be disappointed. The chef does the magic without being particularly beholden to any particular culinary tradition. But it all works, just the same. Even better, in fact, than if it was contorting itself in a performative bow towards anything in particular. It just is, and it is glorious. The wine list, the foods, the desserts, the cheeses, the service. All of it."

Only issue with the bagel, called classic egg, however it was scrambled and mixed with milk. My wife was not able to eat hers because of the lactose. When I saw the name of the restaurant, I figured it was a typical American breakfast restaurant... boy was I wrong. This is a fantastic Indian restaurant! A large amount of the menu contains eggs (hence the name EggMania) I was not exactly sure what to order for my first visit here. So I came here to the Yelp app to see photos. I finally decided on the Paneer Bhurji. I asked for it to be prepared spicy with butter (you could also have it made with oil) All I can say is wow!! The seasoning and flavors went together beautifully! I literally scraped the bowl clean! It came with a tortilla like bread... Chatpata? Which was also delicious. I would definitely eat this again and highly recommend! Especially if you like spicy food! They can make it mild too! My husband ordered the Tawa Butter Chicken! It was a little too spicy for his taste buds but he ordered the Jerra Rice, and that cooled down the level of spice for him and he ate the entire portion. I could not resist scraping his bowl clean too. It was the best Butter Chicken that I have personally tasted! The restaurant is very clean. There are cute chairs made of of barrels... they add character. The tables were spread apart nicely, it does not feel crowded in here at all. There is even a cute egg shaped chair in the waiting area. I highly recommend you give this restaurant a try! So glad we did! We will be back for sure!"

The flavor was pretty spicy but it was absolutely perfect for me. And the portion size is pretty decent. Sure, prices are higher than I'd like but this is not a run-of-the-mill spot so I can stomach the upcharge. Most importantly, they chicken was ready FAST. It was literally just a few minutes from standing in line to eating, and that's great during a weekday lunch time. A few items came out paced oddly, but we weren't in a rush so didn't mind. The standouts were the trout roe tarts, borscht, broccoli and chicken/mushroom dumpling. We also really liked the whole mackerel, but it's not for everyone. I selfishly wish they had brought it out whole and deboned it for us instead of us having to (we made a huge mess). The presentation of the small plates kind of dim sum cart style was great! We tried a few wines and enjoyed them all along with being introduced to wines from countries we don't often sample. There's an elevated feel with faux candles and black table clothes (played down with a paper cover). There's also bar seating near the back; it's a great mix of elevated and casual. Their menu is easy to navigate and we quickly knew what we wanted for our main entrees: charrasco steak (special) and a classic lomo saltado with steak. For apps, we ordered chilled cooked mussels on the 1/2 shell and Peruvian Street Corn. It was fun to try something new for apps, but it was really our mains that wow'ed us. My husband loved his steak and I was delighted by the flavors of my lomo saltado (a brilliant Asian and Peruvian fused dish that always satisfies). Denyce M. "Let me start off by saying Yelp needs to come up with half stars for reviews. There are times that a place almost gets it completely right on all fronts, then there are times where a small thing happens that does no allow you to take a review up to five stars. This is The Soul Food Lounge and with half stars, this would have been a 4.5 rating. The Soul Food Lounge was one of the places I selected for Restaurant Week 2024. I had seen the menu and had very high hopes for this place as the menu was quite eclectic and tantalizing to look at. The selection of entrees and the range of flavors is all over the place, but in a good way.The restaurant is located in a condo building on the first floor on the West side. There was plenty of street parking as we parked across the street from the restaurant. I was actually surprised at how quiet the street was as I always thought of 16th as a main thoroughfare to the east going downtown. The space is very small, so reservations are not an option, they are a must. You can do them through Yelp. We were fortunate when we walked in for our table as we had to wait about 5-7 min while they cleaned the table. The décor is cute and is lively, but again very small. I would definitely recommend doing 3-4 so you get a larger table to accommodate all of your dishes if you chose to do the Grand Tasting (three (3) entrees & a beverage). To maximize our experience, The Doctor, The Queen and myself all did the Restaurant Week menu, allowing us to get nine different dishes so we could all taste everything:Italian Flame Broiled Lobster Alfredo with shrimp, garlic puree potatoes, asparagus tips. This is the dish that is going to make me go back for real real. I didn't look at the menu too closely and thought this was going to be pasta but it was potatoes and I swear I swooned when I had a bit. But I am bias cause I love mashed taters and lobster.South African Peri Peri Chicken: field greens, broasted broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, sweet herb pepper sauce. The Queen got this. She loved it but it was too spicy for me, so it is not a dish I would get, but if you like sweet and hot, do it.Creole Seafood Dressing: butter crème crab, catfish, lobster, shrimp, sautéed collards, fufu yams. The greens were soooo good.Louisiana Blackened Salmon with shrimp scampi, low country pilaf, & creamed spinach. I am not a fish person, but I could get this for myself. The fish wasn't overly blackened and the rice was nice.Fire Maple Glazed Fried Chicken: grilled pound cake, crispy herb potatoes. The chicken was fried to perfection and the grilled pound cake was a nice touch. Honestly this dish would have been almost perfect if it had not had the sweet syrup on it. It was a little too sweet for...maybe a light drizzle would have been better.Sweet Sriracha Southern Fried Steak: Asian assorted vegetables, basil rice. No idea what was thinking getting this. Again my brain was on vacation because all I saw was the fried steak and missed the sriracha and you know I don't do hot. But maybe the sweetness cut some of the heat because it was delightful.Mississippi Salmon Cake: creamy Maque Choux, garlic rice. Again not a fish person, but this was pretty good too. The cake was a very nice size. The Maque Choux was nicely seasoned and was indeed creamy. With two cakes, I could see this as a main entree. Marsala Braised Pot Roast: crispy herb vegetable medley, Thai honey brussels. Ok the pot roast was tender and delish, but those Thai honey brussel sprouts were to die for! I love flashed fried sprouts but that sauce was a different touch and added a nice balance to the savory flavor of the pot roast.Korean Glazed Short Ribs: garlic mash potatoes, sautéed broccolini. I am a sucker for short ribs and this was no different. The meat didn't really need a knife and the potatoes were a nice complement to the meat. For dessert there was pound cake and ice cream and chocolate cake and ice cream. Both were good but the pound cake was better for me as it was not to sweet. There is no alcohol served but they do serve different lemonades and teas, which were quite refreshing. You can bring in two bottles only for a fee of $20 each for corkage fee. There was live music, a saxophonist, who was quite nice. I really enjoyed his set and the staff were all very nice and friendly. The only thing that put a blemish on the evening was the fact that The Queen's food did not come out with ours. She had to wait about 10-15 min before everything came out while ours was out right away. Fortunately we had six entress on the table, so she was able to eat with us. There really wasn't an explanation for the delay initially, like the dishes requiring additional time to prep or something.Other than that issue, this was a good dining experience and we will definitely be back or I will....need that lobster alfredo and those taters!"

It was also great to be able to take food and drinks into a movie.Wasn't even sure that they were going to do anything to the space until one night at a movie, we saw a sign promising a new venue. Well, I have to say, Sojourn lived up to this promise. The new space is lovely! I love the way they reorganized the joint. Carbon Arc had an open concept, but Sojourn placed a room divider that functions as bookcase. The space feels like a living, all cozy and inviting. I love the color palate, soft beiges and the photos on the wall. The other nice thing about Sojourn is that it fits that old adage that everything old is new again. It was wonderful to see some of the old crew from Carbon Arc working at the place. It truly made the new space feel like home.Let's get to the food and drinks. I absolutely adore the Korean Fried Chicken & Fries! This is an appetizer but man this should be an entrée. The chicken was fried and had a lovely crunch to it. The chicken was covered in a nice, sweet chili sauce, I believe. It had a little heat but not too much. This is something I would definitely get again. The burger was good, a solid meal too, but the Korean Fried Chicken & Fries ruined me for anything else after that. The Queen got the expresso martini. She enjoyed it, but I have to say that it is not something I would get. It was not the creamy type, which I like. But The Queen thought it was great. I also love that they have the Gruet Sparkling Rose at a reasonable price. They do have Veuve Clicquot for $100, but that was a hard pass for me. When it was Carbon Arc, I use to get that for $50 a bottle and that was amazing....will miss that. But so far, Sojourn has enough going on to make me want to come back. The macaroni and cheese was of the variety that you bring to family dinner with bragging rights. And the candied yams only needed crust. Once we received the check, we have to go over to the shop to pay. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. The only hiccup is parking. The street parking is a bit of a hassle esp when it's cold, but the food and experience is totally worth it! :)"
