It was busy but we were warmly greeted and seated immediately (party of 4). My coffee was served right away. Nothing beats a good cup of restaurant coffee! Menu was robust. Wasn't hungry so I went with the lumberjack breakfast. It was enough for two people! Eggs cooked perfectly. Kids had pancakes eggs and bacon. Wife had the chilaquiles skillet. Our server was very polite and attentive. She checked in regularly to top off our drinks. If you're in the neighborhood and need a good hearty breakfast you can't go wrong with the Original Alps!"

So I couldn't resist and ordered a sausage slice as well. This place gets pretty busy with a lot of pick up orders as well as grub hub and all that other crap. I waited longer than I would have liked to, but it really wasn't all that bad. I ordered my beef with hot peppers and dipped. The only way it should be ordered if I'm being honest..I'm only kidding. The beef was packed with flavor. Just the right amount of seasoning and they filled the bread up pretty well. The hot peppers were also perfect. Just the perfect amount and right amount of spice. One of the best needs served in the city. We also ordered cheese fries. They serve crinkle fries and then topped with the cheese. I prefer my cheese on the side so I can dip it but then again you get more cheese when they just pour it on top like how they did. The sausage pizza slice was pretty good, just not sure if I would order it again. We also ordered a hot dog but it wasn't all that great. The beef is where it's at here. I'll definitely be back."

Reservation was at 830, but there was an event so parking was a nightmare, they did not cancel our reservation or give us a hard time about it at all. Our waiter, Joe, is a gem. "Can't believe the last time I reviewed this place was 2021! Recess is the perfect spot for bottomless brunch or dinner & drinks with friends. In the summertime, the outdoor space is HUGE and truly such a cool spot. This is the ultimate outdoor restaurant in Chicago in my opinion. The food is always good, the drinks are great, and the service is 5/5.My favorite things here are their crispy buffalo chicken rolls - they are PHENOMENAL. I get them basically every time here. Their chicken & waffle fries are to-die-for as well. Their menu has definitely improved over the years and now they have a more plentiful and various menu. Also this is my favorite place to get bottomless brunch is here at Recess. The servers make sure your glass is never empty and truly they're just the best tasting mimosas around. The fries were just ok and the wings could have had more seasoning as well. The manager came out to tell us the kitchen was backed up which explained why it took a while to get our food but they ended up giving us free fries and didn't up charge for my friends truffle fries. Service was also ok as well, our main server got less friendly throughout the night but I would still say service was fine. Overall don't think I would come back but it was a fun place to try."

The owner (I think) did make us a free shot when he learned it was my friends birthday. Then he helped me drink it when I asked cause I'm old. Appreciate that. Seriously great people. "Okay, I came here on a whim with some friends on a Sunday and I loved it! Their menu is very enticing! I split food with a friend: Figgy Stardust burger (with a turkey burger) and Fish and Chips (on special). It was one of the best fish and chips that I've had outside of Europe. The burger was savory and sweet. The fries were cooked perfectly, cripsy crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.I can't speak to drinks, but I can speak to food. I loved what I had and I look forward to coming back. Also, shoutout to the Sunday bartender because he was working alone for a portion of my time there and he was still tending to all guests at the bar and in the dining room."

I want to shout out the amazing event team and event space, that only made my love for the restaurant stronger. 7 years ago when I moved to Chicago, I was nowhere close to getting married, but I saw River Roast's event space from a boat tour and said "now THAT would be a dream wedding venue." I'm still blown away that I actually made this dream come true! We booked River Roast in Dec 2022 for our April 2024 wedding after touring about 20 venues. We chose based on River Roast's location, amazing food, close to all-inclusive packaging, and dynamic pricing for the off-season. And OBVIOUSLY for the gorgeous patio space!! We had a great initial tour with a staff member who is no longer there, and our account was transferred to Jessica after we booked who was then our main contact. Jessica was so great!! She checked in often in the downtime before we really needed to start planning, and then was totally on top of things as we got closer. She knew all the details that other couples cared about or forgot and always made sure nothing was overlooked. When some floor plan things needed changing after our rehearsal, she got everything fixed right away so it was ready to go when we arrived on the wedding day. Jessica also went above and beyond, letting us store some things at her desk to minimize stress on the wedding day. The food on our wedding day was PERFECT and even better than our tasting. We had a guest with extremely severe allergies, and Jessica personally worked with him to make sure he could eat. And it wasn't just a bland plate - they brought him every side dish and even late night snacks tailored to his needs. We loved the menu options, and how we could have unique options like tuna tartar on wonton chips, but could still offer a classic steak and potatoes for the grandparents with less adventurous tastes. Several guests said the chicken was the best wedding chicken they've ever had. We could not have asked for a better venue. We were lucky to have a perfect April weather day and the patio was gorgeous. We had lots of out of town guests who loved being downtown on the river. Our photos are amazing. The River Roast team and event space truly made our dream wedding come true, and I'll be talking about it forever."

"This was our first night dining experience while visiting from out of town.We were difinitely floored by the quality of meats and the food that they served. When we arrived it was the fetival of events.The place was hyped and the place was packed on a Thursay night. There was already a line that was crawling with people. Thank goodness we had reservations because there was definitely a line that proceeded out the door. Once we sat, we ordered a customized seafood platter with their king crab cocktail and 4x additional shrimps. This was to die for.We also got an array of their seafoods and meats.We got their small filets and their sea bass. We couldn't help but get their sides of spinach cream and sweet potatoes. Our first night in Chicago was perfected thanks to our wonderful dining experience to the Gibsons."

"Let me start off by saying this is a 3.5 star review. Tiffany's is a small space, with two tops in the windows, a main bar with bar stools and a few four top tables. It is BYOB and that is amazing to be able to bring my own bubbles.The staff was very friendly and chatting and fun. The physical space was cheery and comfortable. And the food was very good. The Queen loved her steak and eggs, as did I. The waffles were nice and The Doctor loved his omelette. The other folks that were with us got the Sausage and Waffles and the standard Tiffany breakfast...both commented on how good everything was.What was not so good was the service when it came to getting the food to the table. The restaurant wasn't quite at capacity, but was relatively full. We were able to place our order right away, but the food for the table did not come out together. Our friend that ordered the standard breakfast had toast, but that did not come out until he was finished with his meal. He jokingly said that toast is the dessert for breakfast and ate it. Same for The Doctor, the toast and side of bacon came out almost after he was finished with his meal. Not sure how big the kitchen is, but it was clear that they could not keep up with the orders coming in or were not well organized. There were two people who came in after we had placed our order, but got their food well before ours.I would love to come back here to explore the dinner menu as it looks amazing, but guessing I would come when they first open when the kitchen isn't that busy. If that doesn't improve on our next visit, this will definitely turn into one of those places I only do take-out for. Here's hoping second time is a charm."

"Great cozy hidden restaurant, it's small and a local favorite. My first time at location, and it didn't disappoint. My son love the pancakes, and the hash browns they were cooked just like we ask. I tried the meat lovers skillet and added mushrooms to it. The skillet was great comes with two eggs of your choice, and it has potatoes in it already. The skillet is pretty big so come with some appetite, it also comes with a choice of toast or pancakes. The skillet was cooked just perfect, and the coffee was nice an hot. The service was great, our waitress was super nice and friendly."

"SPECIAL DELIVERYI didn't actually get to see the restaurant or step foot in it. Our lunch was ordered and delivered. I only tried one food item but I would really love to try more in the future. This place has been in business for 60 years, so they must be doing something right. They also serve breakfast till 3:30pm. Now that is what I am talking about. No wonder why people say it's the #1 breakfast joint in Cicero. Breakfast past 10am makes people happy. I had the chicken Parmesan sandwich. It comes on French bread. The breaded chicken is dipped in a red sauce with melted cheese on top. I added hot Giardinera to the sandwich but they sent a container and didn't actually throw it on. I kind of wish they would have just put it on, so it would have had a chance to mix & mingle in the car ride over. The sandwich was good and I would order it again. Speaking of special deliveries the parking lot has a little gangster history. Allegedly Al Capone gunned down the Illinois States Attorney William McSwiggin on April 27, 1926. This restaurant use to be called the Pony Inn and was a speakeasy. After the murder the public was outraged but as investigators dug in deep many questions appeared. Why would the states attorney be going to a speakeasy? Why was he riding in a vehicle driven by known bootleggers? Those bootleggers were brothers Myles and "Klondike" Bill O'Donnell and they were attempting to move in on Al Capone's territory. Probably not a wise decision. After they parked in the lot and McSwiggin was getting out of the vehicle, a Cadillac rolled in and opened fire with machine guns. McSwiggin along with Red Duff & Jim Doherty never had a chance. The bootlegger brothers who probably were the intended targets escaped any harm and walked away alive. Capone denied any involvement in the murders. Police later determined that Al Capone was one of the gunmen in that Cadillac. Ironically Capone had just had a meeting with McSwiggin days earlier. This was an appropriate time to say McSwiggins was "In the wrong place at the wrong time."I find it ironic that the IL States Attorney was named McSwiggins and he was going to drink in an illegal bar. Think about it and you will probably laugh later. Durning my next drink I'm toasting to McSwiggins. This little joint has seen a lot over the years. Luckily the mobsters are all gone cause I wouldn't want a side dish of death. I was really happy with my chicken Parmesan sandwich and would highly recommend it. Also keep an eye out for Cadillacs in the parking lot because you just never know. You don't want to be part of the saying, "History repeats itself!""

First, you know its a ghetto spot when after a certain time you have to pay for your meal, when dining in BEFORE you can order it, obviously they have a lot of dining and dashing, which brings me to my next point, its a picture of a lady who dined and dashed. I came here with my boyfriend and we ordered 2 sides of bacon, an order of ham, 2 sides of potatoes and french toast all for an astounding price of $16.00. AMAZING. I ate my food for two days. I love this place, its amazing, its never a dull moment. Thanks"

We were sat in under 5 minutes. In all honesty we were just coming for the $5 cocktails. Had I knew that we could sat down and ate, we would of gotten food. By the time we got here, we were already tipsy and fed. For drinks we I decided on the Malbec ($5 bucks) and my husband got the Old Fashion ($5 buckaroos). Decided to get dessert and one more drink before ending our night. I would come back here or another late moght happy hour. Everyone was super friendly and the atmosphere was old school."

I really enjoyed the flavors, but the presentation made it challenging to eat.We were too full for dessert, but the cookies are a must try here!
