So I am doing a job near by I stopped in. WELL LET'S SAY THE AREA HAS IMPROVED. It was a older Polish neighborhood but now appears a lot more upscale. So I get the Chicago Dog and a Italian beef. Yes I am a big guy. The dog was good, there relish is the one out of mustard. Tasty! there fry's are a steak FRY cut style. I love salt. So the the Beef I had hot peppers. It was huge amount of beef. So much you need to ask for extra hot peppers. I know odd! Well it is still solid. It not a Steak house it is a great lunch stop. Good to see it still on Pulaski!"

Very fresh ingredients, and generous amounts of them... great olives, a briny feta cheese that's the real deal, tomatoes, romaine, red onions, cucumber and pickled yellow peppers + two sides of Greek vinaigrette. Naomi L. "I finally made my way to Lola's Coney Island after passing by for months, and let me tell you, it was well worth the wait. Having been to Detroit multiple times, I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur when it comes to Coney Dogs, and Lola's did not disappoint. While the chili wasn't an exact match to what I've had in Detroit, it came impressively close. But let's be clear, I'm not complaining in the slightest. In my humble opinion (and to my Detroit friends, please don't come for me), a Coney Dog is essentially a chili cheese dog. I've had this debate countless times, but my stance remains firm.I opted for takeout and added a side of cheese-drenched fries to my order. The fries were a revelation - crisp, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The cheese had a unique blend of seasonings that elevated it beyond the ordinary. It was a delightful departure from your standard cheese. The restaurant itself exudes a cozy, neighborhood joint vibe and is impeccably clean. It's the kind of place that instantly makes you feel at home.I can say with certainty that I'll be returning for my Coney Dog fix. Having never come across a spot in Chicago that serves up these Detroit delicacies, Lola's has now become my go-to. A special shoutout to the friendly and pleasant staff member who took my order - it added an extra layer of warmth to the experience. For my fellow Detroiters living in Chicago, if you're on the hunt for an authentic Coney Dog, look no further than Lola's. You won't be disappointed."

Neither of us have been to the "Original" Jim's Original formerly located at Maxwell Street and now currently on Union, but we have heard good things about this much newer location at the crossroads of Elston, Diversey and Western. There is a free parking lot if you are driving here. The no-frills interior has vintage images of the OG location, along with metal stool seating if you are dining in. You order at the counter, and our food came out in a snappy fashion. We did not mind listening to the atmospheric bluesy soundtrack. All sandwiches are decently priced as they come with fries, so these are tasty value meals that you just cannot get at your average fast-food joint. My love enjoyed her hot dog, and I certainly liked my pork chop sandwich (yes it comes with the "bone in" so be sure not to bite into the bone). Our items are generously garnished with grilled onions and mustard, and the fries are good with or without ketchup. We were very satisfied with our meal at Jim's Original."

Griseth Z. "YES YES YES! Not only is this location in the best spot but its simplicity and tastefulness combined makes for a quick little bite-to-eat. Happened to be on the bicycle roaming and exploring the city (given it was my first time in Chicago), and as we approached the fountain--a renowned Chicago landmark, right across the bridge, you will find this little hot dog stand with areas and umbrellas to sit. It began to rain and the umbrellas served to sit under and eat while the rain passed. Thank you, ha! I noticed there was a small distinct flavor on the dog (unlike one I've tasted before and I LOVE hot dogs --ball park, all hot-dogs, LOVE), surely enough I asked the gentleman serving and he stated it was their celery salt. In Chicago, a trademark is celery salt on their hot dog, with a pickle and mustard. Chicago friends had stated mustard is the only ingredient on their dogs, opposing adding ketchup, and WOW! I tried just as is--their staple and it was delicious. I did go ahead and added ketchup and it was even more amazing--since I need both. They serve their hot dog with a little bag of chips. Their lemonade is also made from scratch and is very tasty and refreshing. I highly recommend taking a stroll out by the fountain and stopping by for a bite to eat!"

It's a little pricier than some joints, but it's also more comfortable. Thomas G. "I felt that me visiting Al's Under the L has been long overdue being that I have lived in the area for over 2 years now and I typically go for restaurants like Al's. Google Maps caught that and gave me a 100% capability match with Al's based off of restaurants I have visited and reviewed in the past. After contemplating for a while I eventually gave in after getting off of work one evening. Al's has this slight retro appeal that comes from its plain, yet eye catching yellow outline exterior with red lettering. Its restaurant placement which is under the L has an urban vibe as well as when the CTA green line train passes by.What is unique about the parking for the majority of the businesses and restaurants on Lake St is that parking is along the elevated railway. Al's does have parking space of its own that is fitting to the amount of customers served at a time. There is nothing fancy about the interior, just a menu plastered up on each side of the walls. And behind the counter are its employees grinding it out at a satisfying pace. What caught my eye on their menu is that there are no pork products used which feels comforting to know especially if you wish to abstain from eating pork. Another thing I took notice of is Al's ice cream selections which isn't advertised on the menu, but I imagine is acknowledged by its regulars and community.Out of a variety of choices on their menu I ordered a hot dog w/ fresh cut fries and a canned soda. For future orders I imagine that I will continue ordering either their hot dogs or polish (beef or turkey) because it is typically something I go for. I really loved the fresh cut fries! They are definitely something I could get addicted to; cooked fresh and seasoned the way I like.I had a pleasant ordering experience at Al's Under the L even though there was not that welcoming feeling due to the fast pace environment. My food was completed at a satisfying pace, and good, which is all I can ask for. What will keep me returning is the fact that I get to support this neighborhood business.~Blessings~Thomas G"

They have a lot of items but I wanted to try the Italian beef and the hot dog, since Donald's claims these are their specialties.Order was made and received quickly, the staff at the counter were very nice. They also have a drive through which is convenient, too.The hot dog was just okay! They do seem to use a slightly longer hot dog than most places, so that was interesting, and it is still Vienna. The toppings were all correct but my bun was split apart at the seam which made for a kind of messy dog, but overall it wasn't bad.The Italian beef on the other hand was pretty good, perhaps slightly better than average. I wasn't asked if I wanted it juicy, dry or dunked, it came out somewhere between dunked and juicy; I'd probably prefer it a little less juicy next time though. What made this beef great was Donald's made-in-house sweet peppers, which are a ~$0.70 upcharge but were delicious. Beef portion size was pretty good as well, though price was over $7 for the beef with the peppers.Overall, a good option for beef stand food on the Lower West Side."

The interior has a bit of a retro design appearance, with black-surfaced seating in the booths and glass block. We each decided to go with a combo meal, which includes an order of fries and fountain drink. I don't believe any of the combos were priced below ten dollars, but the amount of food gives you the impression of a good value. They were fairly busy on this Saturday afternoon, but our food came out very quickly after we placed our order. My Philly cheesesteak was sizably loaded with toppings and was a hefty sandwich. I thought it was good but not great. I actually liked the brown sack of shoestring potatoes better than the sandwich, though you needed the ketchup for the fries. My love's hot dog extended past the length of the bun, but she agreed that it was also just OK. The fountain pop admittedly hit the spot for each of us after a lot of steps that day. Sure enough, we walked only one block up Clark and found this spot.I initially pooh-poohed the idea that we could get a high quality Chicago dog here, but they showcased a surgical diagram of what goes into their Chicago Dogs, and I have to admit I was impressed. So impressed, in fact, that I ordered the $11.50 Chicago Dog Combo Meal with fries, of course, and a 20-ounce Diet Coke...like that was really gonna help.
