"If you've been feeling cooped up and need an excuse to take a walk, Philly's hottest new grocery store is the South Philly Food Coop! It has everything- artisanal peanut butter, plants, an ethnic food aisle that includes Italian food, frozen oreo ice cream sandwiches (and lots of other delicious looking frozen things), a swag shelf with cute totes, shirts and tea towels, local bread, local meat, craft beef jerky, vegan cheese, and all the nut milks! Ok so it doesn't actually have everything, it is pretty small, but it is surprisingly well stocked and there are a lot of interesting brands and foods, especially in the international aisle. Everything seems to be $1-2 more than you would expect, but you're paying to support a community venture and take money away from Amazon and put it into your neighborhood! Membership is $300 and can be paid in installments over a year. Membership doesn't require volunteering but it does get you discounts at a bunch of local places, access to special member sales and discounts, and you'll have a say in the governance of the coop. You don't have to be a member to shop here though!Right now for COVID there is hand sanitizer upon entry, plexi glass in front of the cash register, signs for walking in a certain direction, and everyone is masked. There are definitely less people coming in here than Acme so I feel safer coming here.Support your community and shop local!"

"You can't imagine the excitement in Old City over this new grocery store. The whole neighborhood is buzzing, taking photos (just search Instagram for it), and shopping.Fresh, local produce and cheese, a great selection of specialty items, and bulk bins. Those are the 3 things that I'm most excited about. It's clean, well organized, and the selection is great. It's not cheap, but it's also not as expensive as going to a convenience store. And the quality is excellent. I tend to shop as I need things, so I'm sure I'll be stopping in a couple of times a week."

"When you're married to an Indian woman, you have learn where to get the items that she craves from home. For instance, one day in the beginning months of her pregnancy, she was craving jal jeera masala. Apparently she used to drink it as a kid, and it helped settle her stomach. After a description of what to look for, she sent me here to see if they had it. Yep... They had it. Rangoli is the closest Indian store to where we live, so we are semi regulars. I've personally been to Indian stores with far greater selection. This store will never be able to compare with places in Edison, NJ for instance. But they do very well for a store of their size. Plus, they're my hook up for when I need Parle G biscuits. When I visited India in 08, we drove past the Parle G factory in Mumbai as it is located close to where my wife grew up. Now, Mumbai tends to be polluted and smells like it. But at that moment when we drove past, Mumbai smelled like cookies and it was glorious. So when I want to relive that moment, it's nice that I only have to go to Clifton Heights instead of buying a $1500 round trip plane ticket."

"OMG. I couldn't believe this small convenience store would have the only chocolate that i was craving for since I moved to the states three years ago. Yes they got MALTESERS. in addition to other cadbury products from UK. This place is amazing and the prices is surprisingly cheaper than what you expect. last night i bought Nestle coffee choice from Walgreens, and i found it at Pac a Deli $2 less than what i paid. The staff is so cool and kind not to mention PAUL, he is friendly and helpful. Since i live across of it i go there at least once or twice a week if not more. Again, if you are addicted to Dairy milk, flake, twirl or crunchie now you know where to find them ;)Three Yelps!"

"Very nicely stocked little grocery store inside the Philadelphian building on the Fairmount Ave side. They actually do have a pretty good selection despite the smaller size. Produce is decent price and fresh. Prices are a little higher throughout but that's fine as it's a convenient spot for the neighborhood. And also support a great family owned and friendly shop with great staff. Great assortment of pretty much anything you'd need even lots of ingredients (spices, canned things, etc) to take home for cooking. Also has a deli counter. Thanks"

"I stopped in this market more for just the food. No matter what time my day it is, The mood is always peaceful and welcoming here. There's always a nice line for the buffet and understandably because it's one of the few places that really makes home style, Middle Eastern food and you can do some grocery shopping. Today I ordered lamb with rice and mixed vegetables. I hadn't been by here in a while but everything is just as good as I remember. I can't say enough how awesome it is to come here and get food and to have conversation with fellow patrons and staff. It's definitely a treasure to have a 24 -hour market like this in the neighborhood."

"I went here the other day and I was truly delighted that a small but great store finally emerged in the area. This is definitely a major upgrade from the fresh grocer that once lived here. Upon entering, you already know it is better as there are shopping carts and a wood aesthetic on the floor. There is also a Starbucks immediately to your right when you enter. The food selection is also very good. There are so many great food options available and they have a good selection of these foods. Most things that you may need to cook dinner will be available here. I am also very happy with the organization and care that these food items are arranged. It is so much easier to find what you are looking for and there aren't random food in the wrong soots. The alcohol section is huge and many options are available. They also sell cake by the slice for only $5. It is very god!I am very happy with this new food store so close. It will definitely help the area and improve the quality of life here."

"I love the fact that we have a nice market in the neighborhood. However, I've found Heirloom to be severely lacking in some of the basics. Twice I've popped in for an ingredient I needed for baking or another recipe and haven't been able to find what I need. The selection is just super limited compared to a regular grocery store. That said, I love the specialty items that this store features. There is always fresh, locally-made bread and pastries from Isgro's. They carry Turkey Hill ice cream, which I love. And there is a great selection of cold beverages including local favorites Baba's Brew and Inspired Brews. The beer and wine section takes up a really large part of the store; I wish they'd cut that back to make room for more essentials. However, they do have a great selection and they also have a wine chiller which is clutch when you need a bottle at the last minute. I'm not crazy about self-checkout as the only option but I generally only need a few items at a time so it's not too big a deal."

"Not one to break tradition, I'll open with the obligatory THE COP SHOP!To the best of my knowledge, this corner beer spot had the moniker bestowed upon it as a result of the previous owners being former police officers. This was all before my time but that's the version I've heard batted around the most. Good ol' local Philly lore.What can I say? It's a corner store that's open till 2:00am with beer and an assortment of other necessities. Snacks, drinks, few canned goods. Just about every trip I've made has been completely uneventful (except being able to holler "hello" to John, the clerk). There's something to be said for consistency, advantage Town Food Market. As far are convenience stores go, it's open later than most others in the area so it's a clutch player.The in-store ATM does come with a wallet lightening $2.50 fee but insomniacs & drunks can't be choosers."

""ACME" food market is a local food store chain. It's very popular in Philadelphia. I like the size and beauty of the store. It's not very organized in some Isles, but for the most part you can find what you're looking for. It partners with Starbucks, so that part was busy. The store also has a wine and beer house added. It's worth mentioning the modern look to the outside of the building. It's pretty much set apart from all the other buildings around. I liked the store, but felt a lot of things you I needed, they didn't have. I walked to two other stores and they had everything I needed for my football game. I still would come here to shop, it's comfortable, they just need more selection to make me a loyal customer ."

"Really great sandwiches! Small clean hole in the wall sandwich shop. Most people ordered ahead which I would recommend to avoid the long wait. The chicken cutlet is clearly the star of the show and was excellent, but I will say it was hard to appreciate all of the flavors of the sandwich because all you could taste was the chicken cutlet (which was also a little bit heavy). I would probably try one of their non-chicken cutlet sandwiches next time. Will definitely be going back!"

"I went here on Saturday morning and noticed that there's a guy ordering tamales at the prepared food section at the back of the store. Very friendly lady at the counter. They sell three tamales in one pack. I got rojos and mole. $6 a pack. Big size and a lot of filling with authentic flavor. Highly recommend them. Besides tamales they sell other items too such as empanadas, steamed yuca. I will definitely come back"

"So I live in Rittenhouse so felt I had an almost obligation to try the Rittenhouse Market. To this day I am still confused if I got robbed on some of the item price points and thought about dropping in the local po-po's office to inquire if I indeed was robbed.$12.99 for a jar of Gefilte Fish which has six pieces. $5.99 for a non-perishable can of Aspargarus Spears. I also was guilty of purchasing a 9 oz container of assorted nuts for $9.99. To be fair its not out of control prices and is very convienent. I found the service to be extremely friendly and the people that shopped there were very friendly as well which is nice as the entire store does have a small feel to it. I did run into some items on the shelves that should have been removed based on the sell by date, all of the garden salads. Which was disappointing as I was looking to buy one.Still haven't found my go to grocery store in the area but this is another option different from Square Market on South Street and you can definitely grab and go here with no lines from what I can tell."

It was hot and kind of chopped so I'm going to use the powers vested in me by the Philadelphia Inquirer as possibly the cheesesteak authority and consider it to be in the cheesesteak family. It was good and under $8. The roll was good but standard. The meat was good but more is usually better. The veggies were nice but one piece of celery was awful stringy. It had a very good amount of spicy sauce. I took it to Garage bar. I paired it with a lovely Southern Tier summer session Cherry Crush. The three of us had a lovely time at Garage bar's outside seating area on Girard Avenue."

"Gotta give some more love to one of my favorite spots for a quick sandwich and a great place to stock up on some grocery staples! Though I don't get there as often as I'd like simply due to distance from my house, Palm Tree is a must stop anytime I'm in the area.The chicken salad is still a favorite though I've been opting for tuna lately which is always great. I love that there is always a loaf or two of fresh bread available so I can grab a pint of tuna salad to make lunches at home. Their day-old bags of rolls, bagels and croissants for half price also come in handy. I bring them home, slice them up and throw them in the freezer for whenever I need them. The snack selection is amazing - I don't know how they manage to pack so many things into such a small store, but Palm Tree carries all of my go-tos, like Pop Chips, Smart Sweets, Tate's and more. Add in the always-friendly service, plus the recent addition of plexiglass barriers between employees and staff, and you've got a five star biz!"

They make the hoagie right there and you can see them make it and drool as you wait to bite in to that yummy sandwich. In the market they also sell soda, chips, cookies, and cakes."

But the man who is in this place for at least the last 10 years is really personable, happy, and treats his customers well.He's old schooled in the fine art of conversation. The owner of Kovaks is Media, Pennsylvania's best multitasker!His store is filled with all the items you need for your home, for lunch or a snack. His Hoagies are fabulous because he knows how to make a traditional Philadelphia hoagie the right way even though there is no doubt he was born elsewhere. I just think he has a gift of being able to figure things out and do it well.I love the selections he has for beverages. They run the range from all the normal ones you expect but then he has unusual beverages as well. His chips and snacks selections leave nothing to be desired. And, he is right across from the train station. No wonder his deli is always full of people. So as I eat my great hoagie during the Super Bowl I suggest to you : Try it. You will thank me me."

"GIANT Heirloom Market is super convenient. I go there whenever I need something for dinner last minute or whenever I'm too lazy to go to ACME. Even though the place looks small, it really isn't. The produce section has an expansive spread of fruits and vegetables that are fresher and of higher quality than ACME. The meat section seems small but they have cuts of chicken, beef, pork, turkey, veal and sausages. They also have a deli section. Heirloom pretty much has everything you need and the prices are comparable to ACME if not less. At the checkout section, they put out coupons that can be used toward your entire purchase. Downstairs in the basement is a beer and wine store/underground taproom with 30+ beers and a few wines on tap you can drink from. Orange juice is free, if you're with somebody who doesn't drink. The staff is very nice and will hook you up with a scan-able bracelet that you scan on the beer tap that you wish to drink from. The bracelet will register all the beers and how much you have drank, so that you can pay your total bill when you are done. They charge by the ounce and the prices are extremely fair. The best part is if you go during Happy Hour, all the beers are $0.33/oz. Also the beer selection changes from time to time so it's not always the same. Or If you just want to pick up a six pack, a 24 pack or even wine, the taproom has it. And the selection is pretty great too.On the other side of the room, there are many game options you can partake in while you enjoy your drinks. They've got giant jenga, retro arcade games, Super Mario Bros, among many others. All of these are FREE."
