"KATY, TX 77449 / GUANGXI, SOUTH CHINA CUISINE / 08-24-23 / TAKEOUT DINNER+The rice noodle portions are great; very filling.+It's awesome that a South China regional cuisine has established itself in the Katy Asian Town & Marketplace shopping district. I know there is another location in the Bellaire area, and I hope they continue to grow/expand their businesses.+The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean, with a nice layout.+The takeout packaging was well-prepared.-The bone broth was a little too salty for our liking. Other than the high sodium content, the soups were very flavorful and full of umami.-The chicken wings appetizer left a lot to be desired. The quality of the wings used was terrible, and there was too much fat and breading. Skip this appetizer. Maybe get the Taiwanese popcorn chicken instead?-Some random menu items; i.e., tater tots. Would love to see some more traditional Southern Chinese dishes on the menu, even in the appetizers section.-The website could use some improvement, including some better descriptions of the menu offerings, if they would like to expand their customer demographics. What we ordered:'1 A6. Fried Chicken Wings $6.99'1 D1. Losifen Rice Noodle with Vegetables $12.85'1 E1. Bone Broth Rice Noodle with Char Siu $10.85'1 E4. "I usually order party trays from here if I'm bringing something for a potluck in the area. Their food is always fresh and serving sizes are generous. I love to order the cream cheese wontons tray, and it is always a hit because who doesn't love cream cheese wontons? They for sure make delicious ones here! They also will throw in free items if you order a certain dollar amount, like free egg rolls or free family side of fried rice. Hunan Garden is a quaint, local, family owned business, and the owners and employees are always so very kind and welcoming! Hunan Garden is the best Chinese take-out in Spring!"
"4 stars for the fried chicken!Solid fried chicken wings. I will def be back for these when I'm in the mood. I think they'd also be great when having a oartyI didn't care for the fried fish, fried rice, or lo mein."
"I used to always get the orange peel chicken with white rice but this time when I got my order there was not that much sauce and a lot of bread that looked like chicken which was deceiving. I used to love Mia China bc of their portion serving. The egg drop soup is delicious and so is their egg rolls and dumplings."
"I have no reason to ding any stars. This was my first visit. The dining room was clean. The staff was very polite. The food was delicious. Other patrons were not noisy. The atmosphere was good. The prices were excellent. The food portion was great. I would recommend it and when in town, I would eat here again."
"Oh, I had a lovely time here! My robot escorted me to my seat, and the waitress in my area was just lovely. This place is huge and well-decorated; it really caught my eye. The food options were plentiful so it's impossible to try everything but I did try to. You're best bet is to eat everything in smaller portions or just keep coming back like I'm doing."
"We did a walk in from our hotel. The staff at the door was very friendly and courteous and gave suggestions to us. The food came quickly and was delicious. My husband is an egg foo yong connoisseur and he really liked his shrimp dish. I had the pork Hunan style and it had just the right amount of heat. Yummy."
"Excellent service reasonable prices my daughter brags about this place everywhere she goes not a very large selection of food but the food is very tasty and always fresh, hot and sour soup my favorite"
"Great service with great food. Extreme portions and a very clean interior. Best little secret in New Caney."
"The taco truck next door doesn't take cards so I came to Chinese Wok hoping the food was better than the building looks. I must say, I was impressed. I got the beef and broccoli because I thought that was safe enough... The food was definitely MUCH better than the eye sore of a building. The drive thru service was fast, friendly, and cheap. And as is usually the case with Chinese food, there was far more on the plate than I could eat at one time. I now have lunch for tomorrow as well and all for the low low price of about $5. I'd definitely eat here again if I'm grabbing a quick lunch to go."

I enjoyed some delicious soup here on a (surprisingly) cold weekend. The soup itself came out piping hot, with yummy additions like peanuts, seaweed, bean curd, cabbage, noodles and more. I requested a mild version and felt it was just the right spice level, with the soup base itself being incredibly flavorful. The amount of food was also tremendous for the price I paid (~$14), to the point that even I, as a voracious eater, had leftovers. There was also a small self-serve side area to grab miscellaneous sides like jalapenos, pickled radish, and more. Service was prompt and the restaurant was clean. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal in the area.

If you like to eat rice from the previous week, this is the place for you. Never eating at this place again, I'm amazed they're still opened. What a disaster.

Not much to look at outside but this place has great food. We typically get the BBQ fried rice, chicken lo mein, dumpling, shrimp lo mein or shrimp fried rice. Always constantly really good food. I would highly recommend..

I haven't been to very many Chinese buffets in a while, but I must say that the quality and food options at E Star is better than most I've been to in the past. I haven't been to the Willowbrook side of town in a while. Grew up going to and working at the mall nearby. E Star was once a Toys R Us.What brought us here was a post funeral celebration of life that reunited us from all over. We tend to eat out and gather after. The large room at the front was reserved, as well as some tables in the main dining just outside the room. The room had booth seating along the walls and tables with regular chairs. There were servers and managers checking in periodically delivering beverages. The downside was that they ran out of Coke, so they automatically gave me Diet Coke. When I told them and asked, they did offer to give me something else. They also ran out of tea cups/pots and served hot water in a regular plastic glass meant for cold beverages. No. Just no. They could've used the soup bowls in the buffet area. I don't understand how a buffet place runs out of Coke and hot cups before noon on a Tuesday. There's more dining space than food space, so if you have a large party, expect a long line. The food is set up in two long sections for the main food, cold food area, sushi, and desserts. They were constantly replenishing the food. I liked the green beans and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, General Tso's chicken, sautéed mushrooms, jalapeño chicken, fried dough, and sesame balls. The sesame balls filled with red bean ran out and took a while to replenish. The food tasted good. My eyes were bigger than my stomach, but I left full and content. I'd come back if someone else throws an event here. Outside of the event, there are robotic waiters with cat faces. Very interesting.

"One of the only Asian fast food spots in the area. Ordered our food and it was ready in 10 minutes. The Chinese dishes reminds me of your typical delicious Chinese fast food spots. However, the roll I had was restaurant caliber. A delightful family-owned business that left my appetite fully satisfied."
"Great Full Vietnamese menu and Great service... it's family run and they work hard to make things right....."
"One of the most authentic Hunan cuisine in grand Houston area. Dishes like xiao chao rou (spicy pork with long hot peppers) and white pepper with smoked beef are signature Hunan dishes, where this restaurant offers the best taste after I tried pretty much all Hunan cuisine in Houston. The place is spacious and clean. Services were attentive. I was surprised to see some very negative reviews. Maybe because it's not Americanized Chinese sweet and sour food hence the uncomfortable experience? If you like spicy food and want real Chinese food, you will enjoy."
"First time in here. Owner was so sweet and kind. We got the #7 and #8. Best Chinese food I have had so far. Our plates were 10.25 each and it was worth it! Came with an egg roll as well. Egg roll was cold but still yummy. I would come back."
"My cousin just moved into the area and wanted to try this restaurant. We got the jalenpeno chicken, magnolia beef, shrimp lomein and egg roll (sorry for the misspelling ) Everything was absolutely yummy and fresh. The egg roll was literally filled with cabbage wasn't bad tho. The lomein was on the ginger side 7/10 but the shrimp size is big! Service was good- it is cold in there so bring a jacket. It's also very reasonable pricing"
"I guess this restaurant just wasn't for me, they did have a few people there when we arrived and they had multiple people picking up to go food. So this is just simply my opinion because obviously others did like it. I ordered the Hot & Sour Soup I did not like it at all I tried eating it but the smell was overwhelming. It's an acquired taste for sure and I would never order it again. We also had an appetizer which was an egg roll, wonton and fried shrimp this was the best of everything I had I actually ate all of it. My entree was the sweet and sour pork with fried rice, I've had better at other places I didn't like the rice the pork was ok I think I was just over it because the soup was just horrible for my tastebuds. The service was really good they came to clear the table often and refilled our drinks. The ambiance is nothing to brag on I myself wouldn't try it again but I would suggest others do because they did have a lot of people picking up orders."
"My girlfriend loves this place and I like it. I do like the decor and ambience. The prices are good too."
"Did look at my previous review and order the exact thing. The Wonton Soup is good, and the Egg Rolls. After eating at a Restaurant on Belaire, the Cheese Puffs were a big disappointment. Last time, they were lite, this time all wonton, no cheese. I ordered Chicken Kung Pao and I forgot the asked for NO celery...I love raw, not cooked. So, I spent the meal picking out the celery. There are plenty leftovers. Waitstaff are very nice. Place was busy."
"stopped by for my last meal in texas before heading back home. we were all in the mood for BBH and thankfully they were able to seat our big group. The soup totally hit the spot and was super flavorful and delicious! Tons of parking available in the lot. I also tried their cafe sua da and it was so good!"
"Food is always excellent. Good portions. Good service. Family friendly. The only complaint I would have is the smell. When you walk in it can smell like sewage a little bit."
"New owners. Fold is not the same. Damm this sucks. Really wish the old owners wouldn't have sold during covid. The new food is not the same. Should probably give 1-2 stars but I'll give 3 bc they are nice. Food is totally different."
"You know why I have not written a review after so many years? I really want to collect enough dining experience here. Yesterday, I was craving for noodle soup but don't feel like fighting the traffic to my usual restaurants 2 miles away.My coworkers always ask me about Shanghai Inn restaurant. To be honest. I don't find the food here delicious. But since it's far away from Chinatown, I have to say just okay.I'd rather go to Panda Express for Americanized Chinese food or Mambo Seafood for shrimp fried rice. I don't have a strong stomach to experiment lunch at Shanghai Inn. I've been here a couple of times when I stayed at Studio 8 next door over a decade ago. I didn't like it then. But I'm willing to try again for my coworkers. Last time I was here 4 years ago I ordered noodle dish called ja chan mien 炸酱面. I ordered a noodle soup yesterday. They had similar runny gravy. Sorry, not my style. Then, the meats had absurd taste. The only thing saved this review from being a 1 star was the eggroll. I considered it authentic to Mandarin cuisine standard that I'm accustomed to. It's a popular lunch spot for some in Northwest side of town and Highway 290. But you just come here to eat food and don't use the bathroom. That was the tiniest men's restroom I've ever seen. Urinal was right in front of a door of one toilet. Another toilet was in front of tiny sink from last century. The sink was wet. I figured there must be running water. But I can't turn on the faucet to save my life.**63rd review of 2018**"
"Been coming to this restaurant my whole life and sad to see all the negative reviews. This is our favorite Chinese restaurant for the food and service. This place has been around for some time, so I don't expect new interior, but I am glad their delicious food has not changed over the last 43 years.Their yummy Texas sized egg rolls with shrimp are something you cannot get anywhere else. Always a fan of their wonton soup and rib appetizer with that sweet glaze. Also don't miss out on their fried rice.Bottom line - Support family business and get some good food and friendly service at Jade Palace today."
"Would not recommend. The service is really bad for what we payed for 37.43 for three people. The food was mainly cold and made it seem as if it had been out for longer then a day. Overall would recommend some other place"
"Best Chinese Food in town. Service was outstanding, recommendations were accurate, food was delicious and savory. Definitely recommend to try the cheese puffs! The atmosphere is great."
"Great spot that I've come to for years with my family! You cannot beat these prices and the food is magnificent and true to their flavors. The lo mein is one of the best Chinese renditions with incredible flavor! The steamed pork dumplings are by far the best dumplings in Houston! The beef and broccoli is as flavorful as the picture entails!Truly a gem of a restaurant! Very nice staff! Love coming to eat here! Will be coming back frequently!Cheers"
"Reviews led us astray this time. This place is a small hole in the wall which isn't a deal breaker for us....but it's pretty grungy. My wife went with the happy family lunch combo, comes with your choice of soup, we picked wonton....good broth but the wontons were not. The crab rangoon was very good, the miniscule egg roll was average. I got the General Tso's chicken lunch special. The chicken had little breading which is a good thing but it was very dry and chewy. The venetian blinds by our table were covered in a thick layer of dust, the soy sauce container on our table had stuff stuck to the side of it. I love supporting mom n pop places but it's a no for this place."
"Was in the area doing Lyft and decided to check them out. I called it in and the lady that answered was sooooo freaking kind!! Lol I needed something greasy (eggroll) which was the best damn egg roll, I've ever tasted!! And I love egg drop soup which was pretty basic, you nothing special but it wasn't trash. I grabbed a menu since I'm in the area a lot. I will definitely be back to try a dish"
"This is another restaurant that when I first moved to the area I found delicious and just kept coming back. And even if I was far away I'd make the drive for their food.My favorite dish is their spicy crispy chicken, this stuff is addicting, we also get the spicy crispy shrimp which is the same seasoning except with shell on shrimp, it's fried crispy so you can eat it with the shell! Their sesame chicken is actually quite good, once again it's because it's crispy! Most places it's super soggy. For beef dishes we usually get black pepper beef or beef and broccoli. We also like the string beans and the eggplant dishes here. We've sampled so many items and everything is good. The staff is super friendly and remember your names."
