"Great vibe, great music, great service ... just don't get the avocado toast lol. I mean it was good, but at least the other picture someone posted looks like sourdough bread ... mine feels like a slice of wonderbread. Everyone else's food looked good though, they kept the mimosas coming, no complaints on any of that. I mean, maybe two slices of bread? I'd still go back, I'd just order something else"
"The best hospitality that I have seen in Chicago. Reservation was at 830, but there was an event so parking was a nightmare, they did not cancel our reservation or give us a hard time about it at all. Our waiter, Joe, is a gem. Such a wonderful waiter. The food was spectacular. The short rib was succulent. I will dream about the greens there- they were amazing. I'd say the misses were the grits (too herby) and the banana pudding dessert (too sweet)"

Visit Restaurant Page"This review is from my visit over Mother's Day in 2023. It was my first visit to this restaurant and I had a good experience. My party and I got here a little after 1 P.M. on Sunday afternoon. Due to Mother's Day, the restaurant was pretty busy, and reservations were not accepted. We had to wait a bit, but a table was about to be open soon. It was a big table for a party of 11 or two groups of up to 11 people. We were asked if that table was okay, or we would prefer to wait for a smaller table because there was a possibility that someone else would share that table with us.We got seated at a large table that is good for communal dining experience. Since my visit was a while ago and I do not have my food photos available to attach to the review, my memory of what all was ordered is a bit sketchy. However, I do remember some of the ordered items, such as a bloody mary, a hazelnut cappuccino, two omlettes (one was veggie and the other was a chorizo one) with pancakes, fried chicken & biscuits with gravy, etc.The food and drinks were good. The portion size was good as well. I had ordered the fried chicken and biscuits with gravy, and it hit the spot. We all enjoyed our meal and received good service. I recommend checking out this nice establishment. It's worth a visit and more."
"I heard all great things about Luella's and decided to order recommended items from their menu for lunch today.Parking: Street parking was challenging, however I did find parking 1 block away. The place is fairly small and the place was crowded. Energy in the place was happy and bright. There was a line in front of the register.Tables were for small parties; there was even a table for one (1) at the front window (I will eat at a table for one next time, if needed)Diners looked happy and all the food on the tables looked amazing!Food: I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken with Waffles and the Mac & Cheese. Chicken was perfectly fried, just the right amout of crispiness. I got Nashville hot sauce on the side. Maple syrup comes with waffle. Mac & Cheese was Cheesy and delicious, I saved some Mac & Cheese for later.Thank you, Luella's and friendly staff for a delicious experience! I plan to order every item on your menu. Thanks again!"
"I think 2 Stars IS MORE THAN GENEROUS!I ordered via delivery and was EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED ON SOOOO MANY LEVELS!While the delivery box and items were presented as a "delicious" assortment-the opposite was true! The Mac and Cheese tasted like "pure butter" no cheese! The Chicken Sandwich was NOT TENDER and after two bites it hit the garbage can.The Cole Slaw looked "healthy" but was unflavorful...For me, sad that I spent the money as I had been wanting to try their Chicken Sandwich and sides for over a year! BUMMER!"
"Soooo today I decided to order carry out instead of going to the restaurant. When I tell you the food tasted just as good....honey it tasted just as good!! Food was still hot and fresh. I don't think I've ever had a bad order in my life. I'm so addicted to this meal and I need to try something else but it's just so good and so tasty!"
"Recently, a friend had sent a text to me with a listing of restaurants to try in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. The Licking was one of the restaurants on the list. I had no idea that DJ Khalid had opened a spot on the Chicago landscape, as The Licking is one of his restaurants. Not bad and a nice addition to Austin since it's not the usual fish hut, rib joint, or chicken shack.I arrived early enough to have the restaurant to myself. For an appetizer, I ordered the chicken roll that came with a sweet chili sauce. High marks. They didn't try to go gourmet or spectacular, just sent rolls to the table that tasted delicious. For my main meal, I ordered fried red snapper with collards and sweet potatoes. I appreciate the red snapper being meaty and having only a light crust. I used some more of the sweet chili sauce or dipping, which was a good option. The greens were flavorful and without any salt meat, ham hock, or smoked turkey. Often restaurants serve bland greens if they don't use hock or turkey. That was not the case here. The sweet potatoes were a nice add-on that they didn't mess up. Having eaten too much, I had a slice of caramel cake for takeaway. It was from someone who baked the desserts of premises. I can't ding the restaurant for the cake needing to be warmed up to moisten it, but I will pass on it next time around. The woman working the front of the house was cool. Made good recommendations and also spoke at length about some other good restaurants in the Austin area. Like many restaurants I've gone to lately, I will have to go back later to try a few other items on the menu."
"This the second time I at BJ market it is not the same everytime. The bbq is very tasty. The food is good. Glad they survived the pandemic."
"We were hosting family, and someone had suggested to order The Delta. We ordered a bunch of different items to share. It was right when the restaurant opens, and we picked up immediately when it was estimated to be ready. Since our order was so large, I think most items had been sitting a while and cooled. The Delta Wings weren't crispy, Cornbread became dry, fries soggy, etc. The Singapore Street Noodles was my favorite dish, had a little kick to it, generous shrimp, and bouncy noodles. I also liked the Southern Cajun Corn Elote, but the corn wasn't in season (small kernels). Overall, if we had dined in, or had a smaller order, I imagine the quality would've been better. The flavors were good."
"Loaded Brisket Crinkle Fries We made a stop here last night before the Suns vs Bulls game and it was honestly D to the E to the L I C I O U S!!! We honestly can say that we will be coming back for future games! Really really really good meat and entrees to choose from! I can't believe we've always just passed this but not anymore! And the service made this so fast and they were really nice!"
"My mom and I recently went to Chicago and this was the first restaurant we went to upon arrival on 6/14/2024 and let me just tell you, the food was smack your momma (but also please don't) good! This would have been a five star review, however service was slowwww and it took forever for someone to greet us, otherwise this place was the move. Great location, good outdoor space and great food. We ordered and we recommend: the fried catfish meal which came with hush puppies and corn grits and collard greens, in addition to that we got a salmon Caesar salad - we shared it all. The food was perfect, no notes! The catfish was perfectly cooked, flavorful, crunchy exterior and a soft and perfectly textured interior, the grits were surprisingly good, lick the bowl good, I am not sure I knew hush puppies were bomb, but they were little balls of awesomeness. Also, someone's grandma was in the back making the greens, they were so delicious and just the right amount of tartness. Let us not sleep on the Caesar salad, the dressing was yummy, the salmon was plentiful, the croutons were crunchy and well seasoned, all in all just perfect!Get off my review and check this spot out! Said with kindness!"

Came here for a girls day brunch and it did not disappoint! We got there fairly early and after about 20 minutes it started to get really busy. A few of us had the bottomless mimosas and the rest had the margarita flights. Both were really good. Our server was attentive and did a great job of explaining everything since it was our first time. Food came out and it was really good! We had chilaquiles, chicken and waffles - I would recommend both! Once our brunch time was done a few of us stayed at the bar. Johnny was AMAZING. Very attentive even though the bar was really busy. Drinks were good, music was good and the vibe was perfect for a Sunday brunch. Would recommend and planning to go again.

We had a 6:30 reservation but walked in 30 minutes early asking if we could be seated earlier and they happily gave us a great table by the window. To start, ordered the Justify which was a delicious cocktail. We ordered 4 things and shared them all:1. Gumbo2. Mac n Cheese3. Cornbread with Honey Butter4. Short ribEverything was amazing. If I were to come back, I would get the gumbo and cornbread again. I'd love to try some of the other options.I also ordered the Uncle Honey which was another great bourbon based cocktail. The staff and service were great and we enjoyed the overall ambiance.

This is a breakfast and lunch spot that offers everything southern. The decor is just that, southern - rustic, farm house, simple and elegant. The service here was fast. We were in and out within an hour and 15 mins. As soon as we walked in we were seated within seconds. Right after we were seated our server took our drink order as well. She was very sweet and friendly. My friend ordered a mimosa which she thought was mostly orange juice and I ordered an espresso martini which was good however nothing special. Going forward I won't be ordering cocktails from here. For food I got the Carolina Benny which was delicious - very savory and satisfying. My friend ordered the dirty bird eggs Benedict and it was loaaaaaded with mashed potatoes. She enjoyed it and said she would order it again. Side note - signature items do not offer a side, season fruit and/or hash-browns are in up charge for signature items.

Yelp needs to add a Sixth Star for this restaurant.Service- great.Ambiance- I don't care what the Ambience is as long as Chef is cooking the food. However, I understand why this is important. It's a small, clean establishment.Food- words can't explain.I have been here before. I was in town visiting and this was on my list to visit. Per usual, I wasn't disappointed.Buttermilk fried chicken and waffles- meat isn't dry and seasoned perfectly.Biscuits- as if your Granny made them,Salmon Cakes-the best I ever had. Don't let my mom read this. The balanced taste and texture. Not overly fishy for the ones out there that always say they don't want to eat fish for that reason. The grit balls and asparagus that accompany the dish makes it the perfect dish for me. The gentleman taking my order told me it had ranch and buffalo sauce on it and immediately I said, "I hate ranch." I love ranch. This wasn't a regular ranch. Elevated ranch. If ranch tasted this way, I would eat it.Didn't get any photos as I was more concerned with savoring my meal.Moral of my review: should you eat here? Yes.

Our go-to chicken spot in Chicago! Can't go wrong with the Original budlong chicken sandwich (I get mine naked (no sauce) and husband loves it Nashville hot) with come back sauce and a side of fries! Enjoy!

When the restaurant has chicken and waffles in its name, you can't go wrong with the chicken and waffles. The fried dark meat with the waffles and syrup were a perfect combination of sweet and savory. Portions are really generous. We also had Eric's Eggcellent Skillet with chicken sausage, which is a great savory dish, but didn't hit the spot as much as the chicken and waffles did.

I don't know if this can really be considered seafood rice. There was 1 overcooked crab claw on top of the rice and 3 shrimp in the rice. The rice itself is tasty, but it's definitely lacking on the seafood.

BJ's never disappoints! My family has supported them for years, even when the original owner had the restaurant in Pullman. The food is flavorful, tender and appetizing. There is always a variety filled menu to satisfy all tastes. Fav: baked chicken and mustard fried catfish. Not sure if they still make turkey tips, yet those were delicious too! CON: Mac&chz and candied yam recipe could use a makeover. Needs to be more homemade. It's cool to eat when you want a taste, but it's not mama's. All green veggies are delicious, so that's a PRO! Note: the cashier didn't know that GrubHub takes orders for takeout via Yelp. When I arrived and said my name, she denied my order, even though I had a confirmation number and showed her my screen receipt. Her coworker had to correct her and show her where the orders process at a secondary computer.
Visit Restaurant Page"Alright. This is it. My search is over. My wild goose chase as a transplanted southerner in Chicago trying to find grits in this Midwestern winter has come to an end. This was a new place that came up on my Uber Eats. I've had a hard time finding southern inspired food in this city full of amazing food that actually had any heart. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which was an easy choice. I was so excited to even see it on a menu up here! Delivery was quick and came still warm. It came packaged neatly but in a cardboard/recycled material type container that probably isn't best for a dish with as much moisture as grits can have, and I moved the dish to a bowl. It was lined with parchment paper to keep it from seeping through which helped, but would have been better packaged in something a little sturdier. HOLY COW when I opened it though it smelled so good. It came with shrimp, andouille sausage, cheddar grits, and some peppers and onions. These are hands down the best grits I've had in Chicago and maybe the best ever (except for my dad's). This was a big portion, filling, and so flavorful. The shrimp were garlicky and delicious and I actually loved the addition of peppers and onions. I immediately recommended Southern Twang to my roommates and I can't wait to order again. Thank you for making this transplanted southerner incredibly happy."
"Loved everything about this place location, service, and dining options were all fantastic!"
"A new food "hall" and it has a Budlong Hot Chicken? YES! A great little location serving up their delicious food from a friendly staff. They have a small menu, but everything sounds great. I went with The Southern (as I'm a sucker for Pimento Cheese!), served in Nashville Hot sauce, a side of fries, and a root beer. The chicken was fantastic! The flavor was pretty spicy but it was absolutely perfect for me. And the portion size is pretty decent. Sure, prices are higher than I'd like but this is not a run-of-the-mill spot so I can stomach the upcharge. Most importantly, they chicken was ready FAST. It was literally just a few minutes from standing in line to eating, and that's great during a weekday lunch time. And on top of that I got to pick breast or thigh meat - bonus! While I usually don't stray this far east for lunch very often I will certainly remember that this place. If you've never had it, give it a try!"
"I enjoyed their Louisiana Chicken Salad with lemon tahini dressing and corn muffin. That corn muffin was moist and not very sweet which was perfect! I loved their cheese grits and flavorful collard greens. The collard greens were cooked and stewed with turkey leg. Their Jambalaya Omelette was awesome and is now my favorite breakfast item in town. In addition, I loved their Bootsy Collins cocktail. Service was excellent."
"Use to be my favorite bbq place but it's gone downhill over the years. This bbq spot is a hit or miss majority of the time with staff and food. If the place is busy (mostly weekends and fridays) you'll know as STAFF DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE, if they do you are greeted with a bad demeanor and cannot place orders over the phone due to rush sales or peak hours. On a relaxed day it's the opposite. I typically order the rib tips but sometimes you get what I call "scrapped meat". It's basically shredded pieces of really tough meat and bones. I've had more plates of scraps rather than actual rib tips. The bbq sauce is tasty whether it's hot or mild but there's a charge for extra sauce if you prefer a more saucy plate. I believe all orders come with bread."
"Great vibe. Great food. Great drinks. Being in the heart of Andersonville, it's a wonderful place to take out of town visitors. Plenty to do in the neighborhood or surrounding neighborhoods. The food is not shy on spices and has an authentic southern feel (note: I'm no expert in southern cuisine, so don't hold it against me if you think I'm wrong). Regardless, the food is vibrant. Lots of great flavors. I've been here a half dozen times and have never been disappointed! Also... During Covid, my family would sometimes order the chicken dinner for pick-up. It was always a special treat!!"
"The food was amazing and great service The salmon croquettes were outstanding The bacon flight was delicious, with hot honey being my favorite"
"Ordered Cleo's through Uber eats and it was still sooo bomb. I'm a huge fan of catfish and it was so good. So much flavor and the more I ate it the better it got. The candied sweet potatoes were also yummy!! Honestly everything was so good I was pretty surprised. Would def come back again!!"
"Let me tell you. I just a had next level dining experience here and had to come review this gem immediately. After a long morning walk, at 11:30am party of 3 walk in without a ressie, and you seat us within 5 minutes. Love it!!Seated on the side near the big windows and swing, we were greeted by a delightful waitress. We all ordered the fried Catfish and grits. This dish delivered transported our taste buds to the next level taste it was so good. The portions are more than generous and I'm grateful to leave knowing I'm going to eat me some more later. Would've ordered the huge buttery slice of cornbread but that's what I call be greedy knowing good and well I couldn't stuff it in. So next time, I'm starting with cornbread."
"Chicken! You can see they are a big fan of chicken as soon as you step in the door.Food:Roasted chicken - 5/5 - outstanding; mildly seasoned and tender... I now have a favorite, to-go spot,a small business to get my Southern-style roasted chickenBBQ chicken sandwich - 5/5 - love the bbq sauce on the tender chicken; another favorite Pulled pork sandwich - 4/5 - good but not outstanding Country fried steak - 4/5 - very good but not exceptional Many available Southern/Soul food side dishes including beans, fried okra,*Hand cut fries - 5/5 -delicious Corn pudding - 4/5 - first time having it and I liked it; worth a try Ambience:Basic-corner restaurant vibe. Heavy on the chicken decor!Service:Fast/efficient, friendly"
"I have wanted to try Roost for a while now. Tucked away on the edge of River West and West Town, I would see the business as I drove to my son's house. This cute, uniquely shaped restaurant looks colorful and inviting. Al fresco dining is available on the quiet side of the building. Parking is easy so there is no reason not to stop in. When I walked in, the guy up front was so friendly. He greeted me warmly, chatted with me while I waited and said goodbye using my name as I left. The chicken, fries, mac & cheese and biscuits were a hit. The pickles looked amazing so I asked for extra. Sadly, there were zero pickles in the bag. I made sure to ask the girl bagging the food if all items were in the bag, since there were several different things. She assured me my order was complete. She was distracted and chatting with colleagues, which is kind of what prompted me to go over the order. When we were unpacking our bag and I discovered our missing pickles I called the restaurant. Although they were open, there was no answer to my call. It definitely did not ruin our meal, but man those pickles looked good!!I have now decided their biscuits are the best in town! I'm still thinking about them this morning. I think they bake magic inside those adorable, flaky layers of dough.Go check them out!!"
"I was visiting a friend and she asked if I had Macarthur's and I said No. She just shoock her head at me and said get in the car we about to go. I am always down for Soul Food. The Decor is very outdated and a lot of the items that I looked up on their website was sold out by time we got there. So, if there is something you are really craving go early.I ordered the Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, Mac & Cheese, Corn and String Beans. The food was very good. Everything was seasoned perfectly. Service was a little rocky as my friend ordered a peach cobbler the lady that was serving told the lady at the register that she had a peach cobbler and the lady never rang it up. When My friend asked about the peach cobbler, she said that we didn't ask for one. Overall food was good, decor could improve, and customer service could be better. I would give it a second chance"
"I'm gonna leave them three stars because I don't feel like I got them at the right time.Although I'm really quite disgusted that a place called bourbon on division turns into a club at night, the bartender "Ashley?" Did me right by pouring me her favorite Bourbon, Straight Edge, finishing off the bottle...I was really let down and I guess I'm upset the kitchen was closed because it looked like one of the shitty bars in my home town that turns into a bunch of douche bags standing around one hot girl while the music pumps and the bar just keeps taking their money as they guzzle drinks to stand against a wall all night."
"I have wanted to go to Lizzy J since it was on the north side and closed before I could patronize. On this day a Saturday I want to visit and then make my play which was the Wiz at Cadillac Place. The theater was 15v/ 20 tops in proximity.i planned our afternoon to the T. I also was looking on the website for Fulton market and noted that Lizzie J. The restaurant hosted and was attached to a Christmas brunch with Santa in the Grinch on the same day as my reservation. I quickly inboxed, which I believe was the owner Lizzie J or whoever she allows to handle her emails. I confirmed that I did make a reservation and I was inquiring about the event that would be happening around the same time to make sure there was no conflict of interest. The person assured me that my reservation would be fine in that the restaurant will be open during this event that they will cater. When I arrived I saw a lot of long faces and unhappy participants walking in two and from where the Santa event was to be held. This location is located on a second floor. It was about me and maybe 12 other people that I can figure out when we first sat down the young lady after the desk kept asking me if I had a reservation and I assured her that I had a reservation and I wasn't. Just a walk-up. Finally got seated it. These are communal seats very uncomfortable by the way. The people sitting at the father end of the table were looking around as we were looking around because they had placed their food order 45 minutes prior and still no food. We told the wait staff who were dressed like an elf that we were ready to order. Finally got the order in and we waited mind you the restaurant was not crowded and what I could see was maybe about 3 to 4 people working in the kitchen area which is relatively small. I don't know how it got. Decided that they would cater the food and maybe they didn't estimate the amount of manpower and leg work and preparation. But they should not have been trying to run and event catering event, feed prepaid guest and then run a restaurant with us waiting on our food as well. Long story short, I got up personally several times checking on our food having to take my eggs back where I clearly ask for them to be fried hard and upon putting the fork in the eggs they were running we kept getting one thing at a time. We were absolutely starving. I would have loved my full meal as I ordered it. My friend got salmon croquettes which looked delicious. She couldn't wait to dig i5nto but they were ice cold. I myself am a major foodie I have over 700 reviews. I definitely wouldn't come here and waste time. This is my honest review. Maybe on a day that they were not hosting an event. It will be better service. But to me customer service is very important. I even waved and tried to speak to the owner Lizzie J. Who turned her back proceeded to walk against the wall to be out of the way when I tried to merely speak to her. That left a very bad impression to me and my guest. I definitely talked this place up and we were very excited to be there. I personally don't know if I will return. The food was okay. The lemon ricotta pancakes would definitely be my favorite. I was told that you get three and for the amount I thought they were going to be three full-size pancakes. They were okay and again very basic. Concerning the eggs couldn't get the order right and the grits seemed like they were lacking something but it was okay. One of the cooks personally came out and said to me that that's not how they run things. They were overwhelmed. But again, when you are in the food industry you need to be prepared for the unexpected and people are coming high expectations and first impressions are everything!"
"My love and I dined at Ina Mae Tavern on a Saturday evening prior to seeing a comedy show in the area. We made reservations, and we needed them as they were pretty busy. Its location is semi-tucked away on a corner just a shade past bustling Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park. It's a fun atmosphere there, as if you are dining in New Orleans.I ordered the fried chicken, which consisted of three pieces of crunchy fried chicken and a delicious buttermilk biscuit. While the fried chicken was good, what this plate really needed was a teeny side of cole slaw to round out the meal. I had to take the chicken breast home as I could not finish the entire serving. My love ordered the fried shrimp po-boy, which came with fries. I'd say she was somewhat disappointed in the overall flavor, as she does not do hot sauce and perhaps the sandwich depended on hot sauce for that special kick.Service was a bit slow, as it was very busy so we get that. We kind of made our own way to the water dispenser when we wanted a water refill. The bathrooms are downstairs, and you will need to pay attention not only for the stairs but the constant parade of workers coming in and out of the kitchen. I'm generously rounding up from 3.5 stars to give Ina Mae Tavern 4 stars."
"Ordered via UberEats because I was craving fried oysters. I also wanted a seafood platter, but everything here is a La carte. So I ended up ordering a fried oysters plate with fries, a fried shrimp plate, and a fried catfish plate all served with fries. Because I ordered catfish I asked in the comments if they can add tartar sauce to my order but I didn't receive any, so I assume they don't offer tartar. I also ordered cocktail sauce with all 3 plates, but received a cocktail sauce, hot sauce, and bbq sauce. The hot sauce was actually tasty, so I'm not upset that I received it. The fried seafood was all tasty, for around $16 for each plate it was filling. The catfish didn't taste frozen or like the cheap swai, it was surprisingly good as a Southerner. The batter wasn't overpowering or too floury. I definitely want to come to the restaurant to dine in and explore more of the menu."
