Harolds Chicken Shack

A flashback.... "Taste of Chicago" Southside created and Southsider eating this Harold's Chicken Crispy Juicy Chicken with Original Recipe Ingredients plus the tasty fries with homemade BBQ sauce!! In a basket on top of a sliced white piece of bread ( Originally Wonderbread) made on the Southeast side of the City!! This tasty experience brought back lotsa memories of my hometown & getting grub at all times of the day and night Plenty of other viddles and goodies to get from here. Just a note, I came here on a Tuesday and this Special comes with Dark Meat Leg and Thigh plus Fries n bread with a 20 minute wait time Worth the wait or call ahead to place your order or phone app?? Small set-up with limited seating.....but with lotsa Chicago Memorabilia and Great Photos all over the place and even on the tables!! Niceeeeeeeee touch Familiar flavors with nostalgic feel to the Shacks of Harold's!! I enjoyed every bite and ate it all up!! Definitely will be back again to get My Chicago Food Fix

I've been passing this restaurant for a long time, contemplating trying it. I should have kept driving to Frenchys. I've never in my life had horrible fried chicken but Harold's managed to check that box. $40 on chicken which tasted either old or cooked in old grease. I also got the catfish and spit it out immediately. It almost tasted spoiled. I went there as soon as they opened so not sure if I got left overs or left outs from yesterday but doesn't matter. I won't be back.

Previously the food was phenomenal. However, today me and my family ordered from there and unfortunately the food has declined drastically. The chicken had a large amount of salt and pepper dumped on it that made it inedible. The fries were soggy as if they had been sitting in grease. After this experience, I would not recommend them.

I ordered dark meat chicken and chicken livers from Harolds online, and my daughter went to pick it up.When she got there, there was a long line of people waiting to order. She stood in the line and when she got to the counter, the lady behind the counter was not aware of the order that had been placed. She said she'd look into it but didn't come back to it for some time. Instead she proceeded to take other people's orders and those folks got their chicken while my daughter waited.After 20 minutes or more, the line was empty, and my daughter asked again about the order. The woman still didn't know about it - she had never actually checked on it, apparently - and had to do research to find it.A few minutes later, she said she found the order and that it would get made. Again, people came in, ordered chicken, and received it before my daughter who was waiting for an order I had placed online.All told, it was over an hour - maybe closer to 90 minutes - between the time I placed the order and the time it was picked up.By the time she brought it home (we live less than two miles away) it was already cold, and the dark meat chicken was - as my kids put it - "mid". (That's "mediocre" for us Gen Xers and older.)The chicken livers - though not hot - actually were pretty good, so I'd give this place another try. However, I won't be as patient as my daughter was if I have to wait as unreasonably long as she did.

Leaving Walmart and hunger hit like a Mac truck. Right in the front of Walmart next to Ace check cashing is Harold's. Upon entry the place wasn't busy at all, most people order then wait I. The car due to the 20-30 min wait. I opted for the 1/2 chicken white ($16) with sauce on the side. After 20 min my food was ready and I headed home to try it out. The food comes in a tray inside of a bag , and here's a tip , make sure to open your bag to let the steam out otherwise the chicken will get soggy. After eating the chicken I don't know if it's a southern thing but the food was just ok. Nothing to write home or go crazy over but just ok. If I'm in the area I may consider again if a Tuesday.

We waited a long time to check this place out based on some of the negative reviews. Harold's Chicken has been part of our family tradition for over 40 years. We actually go back every year to visit a few locations. There's a charge to order online for pick up. You can't place an order over the phone. The size of the wings were shorter than the length of the fries. The service and quality are below the expectations that we are use to. We spent over $30 for 2 people!

Once again food was amazing!!! When the last time you had fried chicken and didn't wanna waste a crumb... yes Harold's!! Fast service food hot and delightful

(STAY AWAY From This SPOT)‼Well where do i start. The ambiance of this establishment resembles nothing short of mediocrity! But thats not so bad right? I had to put some trust in the chicken!But The chicken Was dry , sadly. Not juicy whatsoever, honestly (Popeyes chicken be juicy af go get you some!) Chicken has NO FLAVOR . No Spice. Nada. Nothing. The sides Never received my sweet potatoes they practically robbed us of our money for that side lol. Fries were good. Mac n Cheese was OK! Collard Greens tasted OK! my problem was , the collard green juice poured into my mac and cheese and turned it sort of green and soup like. Honestly a huge disappointment.At least we got our 2 cold slimey pieces of cornbread from the Walmart right behind the store like are you kidding me bro? Soul Food Sunday? i am laughing as i am typing this ridiculous review. and the price for the food (64$) sixty four dollars! I've been wanting to try Harold's for a few months, I had an opportunity today and it wasn't worth the $. I ordered 4 wings. It came with horrible fries and 1 slice of bread. Chicken was okay, I've had better. Establishment was clean. Young lady taking orders was nice but could use customer service training. I'm good on them!

This is not the quality of food we've come accustomed to from this restaurant. Very very disappointed in the quality and the service tonight (march 2nd).
