"Came here for dinner before seeing a show at the Kimmel. Great service and tasty food! The restaurant is very dark and moody. My parents needed a flashlight to read the menu.We ordered the crispy cheese curds to share. 10/10! Super light, crispy and easy to eat a ton. For entrees, we ordered Marilyn's fried chicken, seared verlasso salmon and short rib stroganoff. I'd honestly recommend them all, but my favorite was the stroganoff! At the end, we all shared one order of the pumpkin cheesecake which was decadent and sweet.Great restaurant and a place I would definitely return to!"
"I somehow accidentally placed this review under the University City location. We dined at the Wayne location. We had intended to have brunch at White Dog Cafe Sunday 9.17.23 to celebrate a special occasion after visiting Chanticleer Gardens. I was concerned about that choice reading some of these reviews. However, we had a fantastic brunch. Service was well paced and attentive via our server Caroline. Ambiance was cozy. We had no complaints. We had some leftovers and ordered Mac and Cheese to go so dinner was covered as well.*Honey Cornbread, Salted Honey Butter, Strawberry Jam*Yellowfin Tuna Tartare - Avocado, Sriracha, Sesame Soy Emulsion,Micro Cilantro*Eggs Benedict - Canadian Bacon, English Muffin, Hollandaise, Yukon Potato Home Fries*Felafel Burger - Feta Cheese, Green Goddess Dressing,Sprouts, Red Onion, Tomato, Mixed Greens (This was DELICIOUS!)*Persian Cucumber Salad*Mac And Cheese - To Go*A Lil Vino :)"

"Amazing!!! Pure Awesome Sauce!! Thank you, Kaitlin & Kira!!! The food & service were excellent and we will be back!!! That Peanut Butter & Jelly Bacon Cheeseburger sent me to the moon as it was super luscious and out of this world delicious The Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is also a must try!!!! psst they mentioned adding grape soda to the whiskey.. another experience!! I'm definitely gonna try that. Today!! Cool spot with cool vibes! Definitely pop in here for this burger experience!! You will not be disappointed. I promise."
"Great vibes here love the drinks at this spot always good I enjoy the vibe happy hour good even if you miss it the bill still be chilling"
"Beautiful outdoor area with heat lamps and spacious interior. Happy hour food is only at the bar while you can get happy hour drinks at the table. They do half off the cocktail of the week for happy hour which is a steal! Great place for a night out."
"For a place that looks like nothing from the outside, it's quite beautiful inside!Sometimes you need something to revive your cocktail palate from vodka boredom...and a good quality tequila can be just the answer. The cocktails here are expertly crafted (many are tequila-forward) and our friend was flipping out over how delicious the Chanoc was. If you like cilantro, then this is the cocktail for you. The rest of our crew enjoyed our jalapeno margaritas. Nice kick of heat, but nothing that will set your stomach ablaze. I also especially love bartenders who provide water without having to ask. If you keep your cocktail-to-water ratio equal, then you will never experience a hangover! We only stopped in for drinks, but one member of our party ordered the Sopa De Tortilla, and she was "oohing" and "ahhing" the entire time. Broth based, and chock full of queso fresco and chicken. It was a texture lover's dream. The tortilla chips are made in-house and we could have easily eaten a vat of them if given the option. This is a perfect spot for a date (music is low and classy) and the ambiance is swank-tastic. Love the chandelier in the center of the bar area. Can't wait to return for that soup!"
"Xiandu is a mix of Thai and Indian cuisine, a rare setup you see in the city. They have high tops and bar seating on the first floor (street level) with tons of seating up the set of stairs. The quality of the food and speed it comes out is great, with the only recommendation of sticking to "typical" dishes of that cuisine you're looking for. For example, the shrimp Thai green curry is FANTASTIC. The Dan Dan noodles... not a much (but still good don't get me wrong). The dumplings were very well made with tons of filling which I feel isn't always the case and a great dipping sauce. Great for big parties (there were a number of 8+ groups) that were easily accommodated. Reasonably priced, good food, will be back."
"A great spot in the city with good food and amazing service! The service honestly stood out the most!My bf and I dined here the other night for restaurant week. It didn't seem packed, but we were seated upstairs rather than the "patio" section. Upstairs was just a bit cramped with the women's restroom. For the first course, we ordered the hipster meatballs and butcher wedge. Both had a beautiful presentation and tasted great. I'm sure the regular meatballs would've been better, but the hipster version was still flavorful! For the second course, we ordered the braised short rib Cavatelli and the grilled Denver steak. The pasta dish was heavy, plentiful and delicious. I loved the light sauce and the noodles were chewy. My steak was a bit too chewy for me. We weren't the biggest fan of the steak itself, but we were fans of the chimichurri and side veggies. For the last course, we ordered the mousse and bread pudding. Unfortunately, we were running late for a show so had to get dessert to go. When we did eat it back home, the bread pudding wasn't warm and the mousse wasn't cold. The bread pudding did not include the ice cream for obvious reasons. It was still good but I know it would've been better if we ate it there. This was a great choice for restaurant week and a place I'd recommend!"
"Had five stars but my last visit something kinda gross happened. I love this place, don't get me wrong. The food is some of the best mexican in the city. They have a beautiful outside section and the indoors is cozy and well decorated. However, last time I went my water was served to me in a dirty cup. There was a lip stick stain on the lip of my cup and I took a sip before I noticed!!! The server seemed unapologetic but replaced the cup (which i obviously still didn't drink from). For the rest of my meal he would come up to us and just stand silently look at us for a bit too long before speaking. Every time he came over it just felt so awkward. Other than that I used to ADORE this place. I'm upset that my last experience wasn't too good."
"Dined in at Loco Pez with my friend, and we decided to eat at the bar. The staff were attentive and cool.Ordered a margarita and shared nachos with queso, which I liked. For my main, had the camarones (fried shrimp) tacos, which I thought were good."
"I LOVEEEEEEED this place! I went there last month and today I decided to leave a review because the food is sooo yummmmmy! So delicious ! It's super chill and I also enjoyed the service! Yummm will be back soon!"
"It was definitely an experience, but in my opinion a bit expensive for what it was. I ordered the filet mignon, and although it was juicy and tender, it lacked flavor. The Mac and cheese, was really good. Not sure I will return."

Hidden gem right in the middle of Philadelphia! After finding the restaurant (it's on the corner, just a bit hard to find), the vibe hit me at once. It was filled with memorabilia you would remember from your family, scattered around in plain sight with a cozy restaurant ambiance. The staff were so friendly with so many insights on the food (our waitress was excited we asked ... it was very cute) Food was delicious and not overpriced for what you were getting, which is a change from a lot of the restaurants around. Homestyle meals from your Sunday night dinners growing up ... including the biscuits! Some of the best biscuits I've ever had. Kids kept talking and I kept fading out from the deliciousness. Please try this restaurant out, it's going to be a new tradition for us in the next trip to Philly, and I think it might be for you too!

My bf and I love coming here for dinner. We never make it in time for happy hour and never tried brunch, but their dinner menu is great.Love the ambiance and the staff are all very friendly. Multitaskers. One night my waitress was also the host. Last night my water was also a bartender. Busy but still very attentive! Nachos are good and easy appetizer to share for a few bucks. Both the red and green are spicy. We love the chopped salad and ordered it twice. Once with grilled chicken and the other time with shrimp. Delicious and a dish I highly recommend sharing and pairing with something else. The enchiladas verde that's on their special is a hit! Delicious, filling and flavorful! The chicken quesadilla in the other hand gets two thumbs down. Wasn't terrible but not a dish we would reorder.Love their city wide specials and a great date night spot!

Made it here for breakfast and they were very busy with a bit of a wait. However, the kitchen puts out amazing food very quickly so this should not be a worry to have. Interior is very welcoming and there is also a back patio when the weather is nicer. Drink and food selection was good, and there are lots of comfort food style breakfasts. Chilaquiles we're quite tasty and well put together. Very good place to stop in. Thanks

Tequila's has been a mainstay in Philly since 1986. I stopped by for a Winter Restaurant Week 2023 dinner at the bar, realizing it has been far too many years since my last visit. The bar area was very lively. Since it was also Happy Hour, I was able to get a discounted Daquari. It was perfectly mixed and I'll just say I didn't stop at one. Soon after i got my first drink a plate of chips and salsa arrived. This comes with the meal. It kept me satisfied as ordered and waited for my meal. The restaurant week menu was impressive. I opted for the TAQUITOS DE POLLO appetizer. It's chicken wrapped up in a corn tortilla topped with salsa. A tasty appetizer that got the meal off to a good start. My entree was the ENCHILADAS PLAYA. It's a steal at Reataurant Week prices. It's crabmeat, lobster, shrimp, and peppers wrapped in a flour tortilla and then covered with melted cheese. It's an outstanding dish. I devoured every drop. If it's on the restaurant week menu moving forward you do not want to skip it. It just happened to be national chocolate cake day when I was there, so I got the CHOCOLATE MOUSSE cake for dessert instead of the Tres Leches, which I have had before and remember it being very good. I was happy with my decision. A delectable dessert that is a unique take on the chocolate cake. At the end of my meal I felt really silly for letting so many years go by without going back to Tequila's. I will not make the same mistake again!

If you are looking for some really good Thai food this is place! For starters they have outdoor seating which I absolutely love. Another plus for me was the full service bar, with lychee martini as an option on cocktail menu. (My favorite drink) The Thai ice tea which is another fave was meh, it tasted watered down. I ordered spicy pineapple fried rice (spicy level medium hot) very flavorful. If you don't like curry this might not be the dish for you. The Tom yum soup and the Thai chili lemongrass stir fry was SO delicious!!!! I was very hesitant on ordering the lemongrass verse the Thai basil which is my typical go to. I'm SO glad I stuck to my decision because that was one of the best stir fries I've ever had. Last but not least the bok choy was very good as well. The staff was very friendly as well, I'll definitely will be returning next time I'm in Philly.

Solid place for a steak and a drink at the bar; professional service and good steak house / bar vibe. There will be some solid Philly boys at the end of the bar having a good night out, a fun couple on the other side of you getting the night started, your drinks will be well made and there is a fine selection of beer if that's your desire, and if someone needs to get tossed the bartenders are good at that too.

"We've been to Varga a few times to grab drinks, but this time we decided to order from their ever-rotating food menu. Food is a craft here, and everything they do, they do it well. The wall is decorated with pretty pin-up girls, one in particular that I really like. ;)Needless to say, they have a great craft beer menu that even features a lot of local brewers (we decided which brewery we'd like to visit next after our drinks this evening!) We ordered a Hefeweizen and tropical IPA that were both so good, we ordered them twice and switched beers! There is a great variety of beers on the menu too, so there's certainly something for everyone.I ordered the mac and cheese, because once I saw their instagram post with the photo, I knew I had to come in just to try it. It was so tasty, in that little cast iron pan! The portion size doesn't look that big, but it was actually just the perfect amount. My fiancé really enjoyed the popcorn chicken as well. Service is always just right too. We'll be back again for sure."
"For some reason I thought this place would be light bright but it's a very dark pub bar sort of feel. I opted for just the empanadas which isn't really ground chicken as described on the menu but more pulled. I reallyyyy enjoyed them. My friends had the quesabirria which they liked - very filling. It's been awhile since I've had a good margarita and this place had some good ones. I had the pineapple jalapeño. We also did 6 shots of patron ($90) which was a wee bit pricey but to fair they were pretty hefty shots. Id come here for drinking and apps again but not for dinner."
"When I tell you I used to come here ALL the time, I'm not kidding. I used to go to the location they had before this one....that's making sound really old lolHaven't been here in a minute and I'm so glad it was just as good as it always has been!I got my favorite chicken quesadilla. Of course we started with chips and cheese dip! They do provide the tables with complementary chips and salsa which is always good!"
"Yelper Timothy W. of Virginia claims Sassafras doesn't have any food-not even appetizers. I wonder where he actually went? While the place isn't going to win a Michelin star for comestibles, they serve appetizers as well as entrees. Many is the afternoon or evening where I have come and enjoyed good, basic food as well as well crafted drinks, served with panache and good humor. The burger is respectable and filling. If pierogies are ever on the menu, go for them as well. Here's the menu, Timothy W., should you ever deign to return to this allegedly foodless business. "XIX! Booked a resy for Sunday brunch to celebrate my mom's birthday, and it was amazing! While the food was delicious and the view was chefs kiss, it was really the service that made our meal so special. From our reservation confirmation call to the happy birthday mini cupcakes, our host Chris was so thoughtful. We took his recommendations and ordered the eggs benedict, strawberry cheesecake french toast along with the egg breakfast. We ateeeee. Lol We also ordered the mimosa carafe, which easily had 6 servings. Extra points for Chris giving us the drop on the best spots for lighting so we could take pictures. There were so many good photo ops we couldn't choose just one. Noting: Our reservation was for noon, and the place was superrr chill."
"Pretty good. Group shared the large box Good hangout spot -- plenty of space and chill workers"
"Came here after visiting the Fireman's Museum in Old City and let me tell you if I had any decision power to veto coming to this place ahead of time I would invoke it.I studied the menu intensely trying to find an item that I would enjoy for lunch that would not cost an arm and a leg while also filling me up (sandwiches were out of the question as I didn't want a very bready item and their sandwiches look like they're mostly bread). My choices were basically soup or an entree priced over twenty dollars. After sucking it up and ordering a $27.95 crab cake entree I waited for the meal.We had a very large group I want to say over twenty. The server brought out the tiniest corn muffins I have ever seen complimentary which was appreciated, they were edible but many were left over as one was sufficient. On to the crab cakes, these were good, I kinda wish they didn't pour the sauce over the crab cakes as some patrons may want to eat their crab cakes plain but so far so good. Now here is the hiccup, it comes with southern spiced vegetable cous cous with garlic aioli sauce, imo it is very hard to flavor cous cous, there was ample cous cous but it was very plain tasting. The amount of vegetables plated was small however I see what they are trying to accomplish (spread veggies throughout the cous cous versus have a side of vegetables that would make the cost per meal produced more money perhaps as this would mean the addition of an extra side item accompanying the meal). I feel that Jack's Firehouse can reinvent their menu if they want and offer other options (for starters how bout a BBQ share platter that isn't $42.95), let's say a sample BBQ platter for one? Pretty sure this would bring in more clientele. The server was very good, I will give the establishment credit where credit is due. He brought out small baked pecan chocolate cookies complimentary at the end of the meal and these were warm and freaking delicious.Jack's Firehouse is directly across the street from the Eastern State Penitentiary which makes it prime real estate if you are visiting the Fairmount area. If you like the menu, and don't mind the price points then by all means go for it : )As always people SYOY!!!"
"I popped into Revolution House for lunch and loved this spot. They have outdoor seating on the second floor, but for those who get chilled to the bone easily, there's always seating on the first floor. They have plenty of apps, hand-held options, and then some, but I opted for American classics such as French onion soup and a wedge salad. My partner also ordered their fried chicken sandwich and it was a generous piece of fried chicken and they let us get the bacon on the side which I enjoyed. Everything came out quickly, made to order, and was incredibly enjoyable and delicious. No complaints from start to finish, I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a bite to eat with a view."
"Yes please! I'm a sucker for good German food/beer. Was actually walking to another restaurant and saw the sign, German food and tons of craft beers on tap.... Yes please! Bartenders were super attentive, my Wurst plate was the best I've had! Yep better than that other large German restaurant that starts with an "H". Only thing that was missing was a good creme puff... but loved the Plank Dunkler Weizenbock too!"
"the patty melt & salt/pepper fries with a whole pickle are unmatched ! service is always quick. the beer select on draft is interesting and a wide variety. cute divey bar down the block when you need it."
"We went for Sunday brunch around 11am. We actually called that same morning for a reservation on a very busy weekend and we were surprisingly able to get a table for 8. If you didn't know, this restaurant is attached to a really stylish boutique hotel. It doesn't have its own bathroom. Instead, you have to go to the second floor of the hotel for the restroom which is accessible via elevator or stairs. The host at Square 1682 was extremely friendly as was our waiter. Our party maybe waited 10 mins to sit. I ordered the Wings and Waffles with a side of eggs and Turkey bacon. Those wings?? So good. Crispy and moist with a nice little zing and spice but not overwhelming. You only get 4 wings, but there should be more! And those waffles. Amazing!! They have little sugar crystals inside so each bite is crispy, but soft, warm, and deliciously Sweet. I didn't need to douse it with syrup. I as able to just dip eat bite and have enough flavor and sweetness. Im not from the area but when I return for a visit, ill definitely be coming back for brunch."
"Absolutely love this place. Wonderful hidden gem in Olde City, tucked away at the end of - you guessed it - Race Street, practically under the bridge. I don't live in Philly but it's one of my go to places when I'm in the city because it never disappoints. It's a gorgeous small space with dark wood everywhere that adds to the atmosphere. There's also a wood burning stove (real or gas, not sure) that was a welcome sight after stumbling in from walking in 28 degree weather. Came here for dinner last night with my girlfriend. Every table was filled so it was a nice atmosphere, but it wasn't super loud or crazy. We each had a beer from the excellent list of draft beers, and she got the brisket sandwich while I got the meatloaf sandwich. They came out quickly and we loved them both. We will be back!"
"Came here for restaurant week with a group of friends and we were all overly stuffed and satisfied. 100% would return again!Nothing special inside with the decor but a decent size venue with casual dress code. Our waitress was very kind and friendly! The amount of food you get for $45 is insane! I ordered pork soup dumplings for my first course, Mongolian beef for my second and vegetable fried rice for my third course. They gave me 8 pieces of pork soup dumplings! A bit doughy, but the flavor was on point especially when you added some chili oil. The Mongolian beef was okay, but my friend's general tso chicken receives a 10/10. The veggie fried rice looked simple, but it was delicious and seasoned perfectly. The dan dan noodles is a must. Spicy, porky and addicting! We were all so full, but couldn't stop picking at our foods. We each had leftovers, so you definitely get your moneys worth. Great spot! Winners were pork soup dumplings, general tso chicken, dan dan noodles and veggie fried rice!Skip the chicken and mushroom dumpling, Mongolian beef, shrimp typhoon and chicken lo mein."
"My friends and I are on the hunt for the best happy hour in Philly and SOMO was one of the establishments on our list of places to revisit. We frequented on a "Taco Tuesday" before our HH review. Let's start with the basics - there's street parking available and two happy hour time slots Monday through Friday (4:30-6pm & 9-10pm). Aesthetically, it's a very hip vibe but romantic enough for a date night. As far as our happy hour review was concerned, the food choices were limited. I tried the FROSÉ and crispy Asian wings, both were delicious! Sadly, there were only two additional food options so we decided to order a few things off the dinner menu. We tried bruschetta, meatballs, disco fries, calamari and nachos. These items were an average of $14 each. My favorite was the meatballs, but sadly the other items missed the mark for me at the price point. Our server was friendly & attentive, which was a plus! Overall, despite the pricey bill we enjoyed the ambiance and the yummy FROSÉ is enough for me to return & try a dish off the dinner menu. I've been eyeing the braised short ribs!"
"Stateside was our first stop Friday night. Super fun and great pickies. Loved their $5 happy hour drinks. Was a great find and a super way to start off our night!"
"Pretty good place to stop in for some drinks and watch a Sunday night football game. The menu for food and drinks are available through your phone. Pretty decent selection of local brews which is nice. Pretty much wall to wall TVs so you can watch whatever game you want.I wasn't incredibly hungry so I ordered the fried pickle chips (6). The batter was seasoned really well and not incredibly greasy. The pickles were juicy and crisp. The service was good. I'd certainly consider coming back if I'm in the area."
"Pretty solid spot for Happy Hour in Center City!Everything is six dollars 5-7pm, including HH-sized starters, maki rolls, drinks, and even desserts. My go-to maki rolls are Salmon Avocado, Tuna, White Tuna Avocado, and the Yellowtail Scallion. I also love to get the White Tuna Jalapeno starter and a glass of cold sake. For dessert, the fried cheesecake with ice cream is worth trying, though just a warning that it is quite heavy!I've also had the chance to come in for regular dinner service a couple times and their specialty rolls are fresh. They are usually consistent -- I was only served much smaller rolls for HH once, and there is one server there who is less friendly than the rest, but usually everything goes pretty smoothly."
"Yes, we are back at abyssinia! I've tried other spots before but I always come home to where the best Ethiopian food in West Philly is! Yes the prices have gone up but that is life these days but the quality of the food has not wavered. Actually it used to take down there an hour to get food but the last couple of times it's only been a half hour which is a win lol I ordered my usual combo special number two with the beef tibs, the greens, the lentils, and salad. Everything taste as good as usual and I have no complaints. The portions are a tad bit smaller than I remember but nothing too crazy. You can still share one platter amongst two people, but you already know my greedy behind. made sure I got myself a full platter to myself lol"
"We had the set special A with galbi, finger rib, inner ribeye, and spinallis. The finger rib was really good - flavoring is great and the meat is tender and juicy. Galbi is cut off the bone and is softer than what I expected. The other rib cultus were also good but not flavored so I preferred the finger rib and galbi. We also had the soy garlic Korean chicken wings and they were excellent as well. We didn't order any sides and I would say that we probably could have added another item, maybe more chicken wings or some more meat. Ambience is very cute. Each table is set off with clear curtains so it feels like you're in a little pod. Service is great. They also help you get started with the cooking. The restaurant has its own parking lot so parking is easy. Overall food is very good. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for Korean bbq in the PA area."
"For people like me (always hot) Ramen soup during a heat wave is not a great idea. I chose this restaurant because they serve alcohol and they have a sushi menu. The staff members are all really nice and they were working their butts off! The sushi was fresh and the spicy soup flavorful...Unfortunately the AC wasn't working that well, they were understaffed, and the sushi menu and the bar menu did not have a good variety of options. I tried to order a vodka with pineapple juice on the rocks. They were either out of pineapple juice or they don't stock pineapple juice on their bar menu. Signature cocktails are great but sometimes you just want 2 ingredients :)I love sushi and was really there for sushi. I found the menu to be disappointing but everything was fresh. If you love giant bowls of steamy, hot noodle soup go there."
"Whoa, Fountain Porter, I owed you this review update! Since that very first experience six years ago, we've kept the tradition alive and hit Fountain Porter every year after purchasing our Christmas tree. This year was no exception, even if we had to get our burgers to-go. This spot is easily one of Philly's best deals. Six bucks gets you a perfect cheeseburger. It's not fancy, but it is delicious. And three dollars for a hefty order of crispy fries? Sign. Me. Up. Don't forget to throw in a side of pickles, because Fountain Porter's are addictive and you'll want more than the two that already come with your burger.Dinner for two, plus a nice tip, came to under thirty bucks. Can't beat it. Looking forward to our next pick-up!"
"I've been wanting to go here for many years, so finally took the opportunity to do so last weekend for brunch with a friend. Because people are typically away at the shore for summer weekends, it was easy for us to book a quick reservation that morning. The decor is cute, modern and clean with bright lighting throughout the space. Once I came in, I was immediately checked in and seated. All of the staff were very friendly and polite. Our waiter (think his name was Logan) was also super personable, gave good energy when interacting with us and had a good balance of attentiveness & letting us enjoy our food/time. We decided to order a few dishes to split and sample. Salmon Cake Eggs Benedict was unfortunately a let down for me - the salmon Cake seemed over cooked and tasted a bit plain/not seasoned. The Brioche French Toast with the peach bourbon cheesecake topping was amazing! That topping really added a good touch to the already well made french toast slices. And the side Biscuit and Gravy was shockingly good. We also had Rum Punch as our cocktail drink which was made very well.Overall, we had a good dining experience. There are a few other brunch items I want to try out, so definitely hope to come back again soon."
"I'm always looking for places where I say..."If I lived here...this would be my regular place." and this is it, in Philly.Stopped in on a very busy Thursday night and snagged 2 seats at the bar.Staff and even other customers at the bar were very friendly. (I think they have a steady stream of regulars)Drinks were good, and ended up ordering the pork tenderloin and I loved it.Thinly sliced and nice and moist. The bartenders were really cool and attentive. The entire block in this section of Sansom street is cool and you can easily move from place to place. I will return."
