Patty C. "Been here a few times now, and it's a solid spot serving authentic Chinese flavors. Honestly the most appealing thing about this place is the location. It's conveniently along the 59 north feeder road, in the shopping center lining the road.Despite having dumpling in its name, I've found the dumplings to be mediocre compared to its nearby competitors. My water boiled fish was on the bland side. The cold cucumber appetizer was all right. I enjoyed the crispness. My friend really enjoyed the bbq pork buns.Overall nice spot. I wouldn't put it as my top spot, but I would happily return."

I ordered a large (only a one dollar difference from the small!) and it was excellent all around. Service was remarkably fast and the workers don't check on you much, leaving you to enjoy your meal with minimal interruptions."

Jando S. "Apart from both coasts and Canada (#1), Hong Kong style cafes aren't really much of a thing in any part of the country. Houston is fortunate to have at least a few dedicated places that fit the bill, but House of Bowls might be the most legit of them all. Known as 金大碗 ("Golden Big Bowl") to the locals, they have become one of the neighborhood's most frequented establishments where the food and service shine brightest. On their busiest days, parking can be a challenge. Sandwiched in a small'ish lot shared with several other popular businesses, House of Bowls doesn't have the luxury of parking spaces that the other neighboring plazas can offer, despite being the most spacious business in the building. They have a number of dedicated large tables and have a steady flow of patrons doing takeout or dining in. It's mainly a local crowd, which is always super promising. The menu for the place is extensive, with many of the dishes that are definitely cha chaan tang (茶餐廳) appropriate. The HK-style milk tea and lemon teas are near perfection and I am especially impressed with their condensed milk, peanut butter western toast (連奶花生醬西多士) and especially love that it's floating in syrup and melted butter. If anything, I wish it were larger but I guess that's as HK as it gets (#2).They offer a lot of the sai chaan (西餐) classics that include macaroni, baked rice, instant noodles, congee, egg tarts, and even chicken wings. The latter is one of their best sellers, with my favorite being their garlic salt and pepper wings. I don't even really love wings much but I am tearing it up each time I'm there.Their other super popular dishes are the house spaghetti, which is on the sweeter side and comes with a mosh of meats with a fried egg on top. Equally indulgent is their beef chow fun (乾炒牛河) but the added soft egg and shrimp is a real treat. The seafood here is good overall and it's an ideal environment for plate sharing and family style. If there was a downside to anything, it's the prices. Some of their shrimp/fish dishes are $20 each, even if the majority of the dish is noodle. The bright side is that their service is one of my favorite aspects of the experience. Most of the staff is super multilingual, speaking Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and English with customers. I've been very impressed with all of them and their smile-first, friendly attitudes.I do think this is one of the best spots in all of Bellaire Chinatown. Some folks might not find the HK-fare-laden menu all that impressive, but all things considered, I think this is the best place for it in H-town.__________(#1) And obviously, Hong Kong.(#2) Portions are always smaller in the motherland."

From refilling drinks, serving dishes and just being attentive, we never had to look for anyone to help us. This establishment does allow BYOB. Sadly I can not remember the names of all the dishes everything was amazing and was a mixture of so many great flavors. A few dishes that really stood out for me was the Duck for sure. Perfectly cooked and tender! The lobster was another dish that made its presence known! Lobster had a great buttery, garlic taste. The last dish that really surprised me was the shrimp and eggs. It looked pretty simple as it's just scrambled eggs with shrimp but the flavor profile was unbelievable. It was one of the dishes I kept getting more of. I'm ready to go back and try some more dishes!"

Joanna T. "My friends took me here for lunch when I was exploring Katy Asian Town and this was my first time coming. It was raining and kind of gloomy, so I was wanting something cozy and warm and this place was suggested. The restaurant itself is relatively small, but still comfortable. We all ordered our own "make it your own" ramen/hotpot type deal & so I ordered the tomato broth. They serve it hot right at your table and you can add in whatever you like and always order more at an extra cost. It comes with A LOT of noodles, meats, and veggies. The broth tasted like a thick tomato soup, which isn't entirely what I expected basing it off of the tomato bases from other hot pot places, but it was still really good. After putting in all the fixing's, I just waited a few seconds to ensure it was all getting cooked properly, and it was ready to eat. The meat was tender and the noodles were really nice, thick, and had a good chew. The noodles were probably the best part of the meal since it really had good texture and bite. It was very filling though. I felt that I barely made a dent in my noodles and only placed 1/3 of it into my broth - it was really filling. We also ordered some appetizers, but I forgot to take some pictures. We ordered the takoyaki, popcorn chicken, and the Schezwan spiced beef tripe. I am a sucker for takoyaki and popcorn chicken anywhere, so I was very happy with the appetizer selection. The beef tripe was interesting... not really my cup of tea, but it was good. However, I was eating the takoyaki like crazy and enjoying the popcorn chicken like no one's business.Overall, I had a really good experience here and the food was just as good. Completely came here blind, not knowing what to expect, and left feeling happy and glad I tried something new that I definitely will come back for."

She mentioned wanting to go to Ishin and I had never had authentic Udon so we decided to head over for dinner. There are a lot of good-looking, busy restaurants in this strip so it was a little challenging to find parking, but we eventually found a spot far down from the door. The lighting, decor, and overall ambiance of the restaurant were overall very warm and cozy. It seemed relatively busy and while the place was relatively full we were seated immediately and the wait staff were very friendly throughout our time there.Since this was my first time having udon, it took me a second to look through the menu because everything looked and sounded amazing. Eventually, we decided to start off with the takoyaki which came out hot and was delicious. The filling had the perfect ratio of octopus to sauce. Next, we ordered our main courses, she had the sukiyaki udon and I had the kitsune udon but I wanted some sort of meat so I got a side order of chashu. The broth in both of the soups was incredibly flavorful and rich and just what we were looking for. We finished the meal off with the banana tempura which was the perfect way to end the the meal.Even though this was my first time trying Udon Ishin made a very good first impression on me and although it seems very authentic I think the menu, staff, and atmosphere make this a very approachable spot for anyone to try. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Ishin and I am excited to return and try a few more of their dishes in the near future!"

This salad combines perfectly grilled slices of tender beef with a medley of fresh vegetables and aromatic herbs. The balance of tanginess, spiciness, and subtle sweetness in the dressing makes this the true symphony of taste. I always add additional cucumber/carrots/lettuce if I have some at home because the sauce is just that good!Their Tom Yum soup is also a fave! The generous portions of shrimp, along with a perfect harmony of mushrooms, tomatoes, and fresh herbs, make this soup a comforting and soul-warming dish.In addition to the beef salad and Tom Yum Soup, their other dishes are also yummy. Whether you're craving Pad Thai, Green Curry, or just the good old basil fried rice, the menu has something to satisfy every palate. They offer a complimentary serving of egg rolls for orders over $30 which makes this the perfect go-to place for big parties (and party favors)!"

The restaurant is tucked in a weird alleyway and to your right side. The interior of the restaurant is pretty old fashioned and people and tables are packed in there like sardines. I'm sure it appeals to some people but I'm personally a bigger fan of personal space. Service was very slow; we waited at the front for 5 minutes before we got sat down. They don't have the dim sum cart here so it's order off the menu. We ordered a bunch off the menu; most of the items we ordered were below average and slightly bland and doughy. My least favorite was the fried taro balls. The BBQ pork noodles/doughy item was the best tasting. The pork ribs were alright but again, the flavor was bland. Their char Siu buns was very light on the meat and heavy on the dough. Everything else was a bit bland for me; it was below par compared to anything I've had at Fung's and I got told during lunch that HK Dimsum was better. Price wise, it wasn't cheap either by any means; $50 for a lunch for two... not impressed!"

The lady who took my order was friendly. We ordered 2 grilled pork Banh mi sandwiches, 1 order of grilled pork spring rolls, and a grilled pork vermicelli dish with egg rolls. The banh mi sandwiches were $7.50 each. That's a bit high price for Banh mi sandwiches; even for todays pricing. And they also were the smallest ones I have ever ordered from anywhere. My husband said they were good but not great and for the price he would not order them again. My vermicelli dish was also good but not great. The portion size was also a little small and there was suppose to be 2 but I only got one. I really want to like this place. With my vermicelli I also received an egg roll and a shrimp sugarcane roll (maybe not called a roll but anyhow...). The beef was super flavorful and tender. Really good flavor. I did need to use some of my husbands broth because the noodles have zero sauce on them at all. I guess I was expecting something on them so they weren't just a clump of noodles. That being said, with a little broth they were really nice. I definitely prefer the spring rolls to the egg roll. The spring rolls are crunchy and flavorful but the egg roll lacked a crunchiness and felt a little mushy inside. The shrimp sugarcane thing was ok. Probably an acquired taste. The vegetables in my vermicelli bowl were super fresh and crunchy. Overall I really liked the beef vermicelli bowl...with a bit of broth. It was light and satisfying. The shrimp pho was good. Jando S. "My initial draw to Oui Banh Mi was their drive thru, which similarly to Lee's on Bellaire (#1), is a rarity for any Vietnamese based restaurant in Houston. After a number of visits with average experiences, I'm convinced their food is solid in a pinch, but not exactly a go-to option. Given that a good volume of their business is takeout, they've been an ideal pandemic type restaurant. Seating is minimal on the inside, but there's a few booth type areas for those who want to dine in. They seem quite modern overall with a sleek menu and fun mural to boot. The food is a mixed bag. One could argue that it's watered down and/or a tad gringo'y, but it lives to serve the neighborhood. Their namesake banh mi has been the least appealing thing on their menu since the bread was stale and the portions were paltry at best. I've tried their signature chargrilled pork and pate, which had very little of both. The first time I thought it was a mistake but the subsequent visits of skimpy sandwiches made me think otherwise.I think a better route has been their vermicelli noodles, particularly with chicken and egg rolls. The fish sauce isn't that potent, but it is definitely sweet. I do think their Vietnamese iced coffee is a clear winner and the pho should probably be avoided at all costs. Spring rolls are also a gamble at times, since the wrapping isn't always tight, resulting in a limp roll or one that's constantly falling apart.Service has also been a mixed bag. Minus the occasional order snafu, I find the service really depends who's at the counter. The awkward times of ordering in Viet has been met with a bit of pushback, to the point where my party and I stopped saying banh mi all together.Their prices are good for the area and I think the fact they use the Coco mini-robot delivery machines are cool. Parking was plenty in the strip mall with other shops and restaurants. The cashier was friendly and food came out quickly. My only concern was the temperature of my pho that couldn't soft cook the vegetables. Then, the vegetables were in a self-serve bar uncovered. The sprouts were ok. But the basil and cilantro were slightly wilted. Soup flavor was to the point. And, most importantly, they served with Mama La's Sriracha sauce. You wait to be seated, order at the table, pay at the front whenever you're ready to go.2. Price - This ranges from $11 to $16 a bowl. 3. Ambiance - this place looks very appealing and cozy. It doesn't feel like your typical Vietnamese pho restaurant in Houston. I like the way they designed the place. This is a good place to meet with friends and family, but don't bring a huge party more than 10. They don't have the space. Sure you can put all the tables together to sit 10+, but it can be a wait. They're often quite occupied. The smaller the group, the likelier to get a table. Dress code here is casual. 4. Food - So this place serves a bowl of noodles, however it is not pho! Pho is just rice noodles with beef broth. This place mainly serves egg noodles (yellow noodles) with pork broth. However, they do have rice noodles if you prefer. They serve noodles here with soup or without. You can eat with pork, beef, chicken, and their regular broth or with stew. I had their MI GO which is just Egg Noodles, Pork Broth, Pork, and some condiments. The broth is a little sweet to my liking, but it was still good.
