Aesha E. "I learned about this small neighborhood market in Block Club Chicago and then it was promoted to me via Yelp, so I've been wanting to visit for weeks. Tonight was just the right night; we were having picadillo, and several of the reviews mention their fantastic salsa and guacamole. (Spoiler alert: They were right, it's great.) The article I read said the owners met as kids working in a store, I believe, and I love that so much. When I entered the woman who greeted me was really nice and said to let her know if I was looking for anything in particular. It is very, very small inside, but they have a deli counter at the back with a few things. The aisles are so narrow you can hardly fit two people (and in a couple of them, having one feels like overcrowding) so navigability can be tricky. But I found what I wanted, and a few other things to boot, so all in all it was successful. They have some vegetables (which was great because I needed lettuce but was going to forget it because I didn't want to go to Mariano's), some dairy items, pantry stores and pasta, and so on. They had sopes, which I was telling a friend I wanted to make and she'd told me that ready-made sopes were a thing; now I just I just need to find a recipe for what to put in them! The guacamole was good but I liked the tomatillo salsa even better. It's flavorful, a little sweet, and heats up nicely the more you eat. This will probably be my favorite. The woman (perhaps the owner?) told me that she had one sweet corn tamal left and I decided to give it a taste, and it was really good! But I need them to update a webpage or Instagram or something so I can make sure to be their early when they have chicken and/or cheese tamales!!They also have sweet treats--the right side as you enter is coffee and pastries so there's another place for the coffee drinkers in the neighborhood to get their fix. Glad to welcome this place to the neighborhood and I hope it has a very bright future ahead."

Jul N. "AffordableFRESH FRESH FRESH. The best produce section of any store I have been to in Chicago.Speaking of fresh and affordable, you HAVE TO CHECK OUT THE SALE PRODUCE. For twobucks, I got two heads of broccoli and a head of lettuce, as well as about 9 banana, poblano, and green peppers. See photo!Nice staff!Get the queso crema and the chicharron and carnitas in the deli. Last time I went, he carnitas were unfortunately very very dry, and inedible :( It was a Friday around 7pm. But this was only once. Usually they are meaty and melty.Re produce, I love their plums in the summer, bok choy, cabbage, lettuce, peppers, broccoli, carrots, mangos."

Ian C. "This place, as Nikki said, is LEGIT!!!! I just moved to the neighborhood and live about half a block up on Diversey. Went shopping here my first nice and bought what I thought would be a bazillion dollars in food and supplies. When I checked out, the young girl at the counter said $19.49. The place is small and there is not a lot of room. Small and efficient is the way it is, and that's all you need. Almost all the signs are in Spanish, so if you are like me, and haven't taken Spanish is a few years (10 for me), it will help a lot. Not needed, but as I said, it will help a lot in your shopping experience."

Elizabeth F. "Super friendly people! You can find practically **anything** you need here. Aside from a great beer, wine & liquor selection, they are also your typical corner-type convenience store. I have bought frozen yogurt, Nyquil, postage stamps & beer all in one trip, if that gives you an idea. :)Being such a friendly neighborhood spot, the great staff get to know all the regulars & treat you very well. Located very nicely at the corner of N Broadway St & Belle Plaine. There is even a USPS post-box outside the store."

The sandwiches were 10/10 for us. The deli wasn't super busy at the time we went and we were able to get tasty sandwiches very quickly. The carry boars head products and their Italian bread is great. I especially loved the veggie sandwich I got. Will def be coming back regularly to get sandwiches! It's clean and neat inside and the staff is very nice!"

As we arrived the parking lot was full and just in time there was a car leaving so we waited for it to go and we parked at his / her place. Because it's the weekend, many customers are there. Every basket of the customers is full of food. Their store was so clean and spacious. Everything you need can be bought in this store because of a lot of food sections with a different variety of foods and drinks. We went to the produce section. They are fully stock and organized. The vegetables and fruits are fresh. We bought some bananas, apples, grapes, strawberries and mango. Next we went to the section of junk food and juices. They have a wide variety of Asian food. Because of a lot of sections their staff help me to find anything that we need. And thanks to this place we bought everything we needed."

Steve A. "Got some lunch from this Uptown market and deli. It doesn't look like much but it's good. New York Market makes fresh sandwiches. Has stuff like the falafel. The prices are kind of high but this is better quality. Came and got a sandwich at lunch. It's about $11 to get one. These come with a choice of protein. Among the meats are beef and chicken. The vegetarian choice is falafel. Got a few other things for cheap. They have containers of vegetarian dolmatas for only a few bucks, and these are a pretty good side. Other stuff in the store isn't as cheap. There's a lot of ripoffs, but has some okay things. Has a few items that are pretty cheap. It's more expensive for the fresh sandwiches. There's many things here okay for vegans and vegetarians."

Christopher V. "Yes, prices are more expensive than your typical grocery store, but I love the quality, selection and service. In particular I I've their butcher section. Fresh Market Place offers a wide selection of Slagel Farms pork, chicken, and beef. You can't beat this quality. The butchers are informed and even offer cooking prep suggestions.Publican Bread, another tough find, is sold here as well. It's great to have a small local market with so many great finds. Produce is again pricey, but very fresh. I wouldn't suggest completing all of your grocery shopping here, but strongly suggest checking out the butcher and produce sections. Pro Tip: Table 87 pizza is sold here. .. and it's better than any frozen pizza in your freezer."

Shay R. "#thankyouthursday Alta Vista Foods is the hidden gem of the neighborhood! I love that they have such a nice selection of meats and produce, especially during times when I don't want to visit the larger grocery stores. I can always find something that I can easily whip up for dinner whenever I visit. They also have the tortillas that my husband and I love to make with our breakfast along with items that I would normally pick up from Walgreens across the street. The staff at Alta Vista Foods are always friendly and willing to point you to the direction of where your item can be found. They do have a little of an up charge for certain items, which is to be expected for a small corner store but it is worth the small increase in price to avoid the crowds at the major grocery stores. This is a must visit place if you are looking for some essentials and don't want to travel to the more crowded places."

When I knew I was coming to Chicago, I reached out to a local trusted source for a lunch recommendation. She gave me two top choices - this was one of them and I painstakingly went back and forth trying to decide which place to choose, before ultimately going with JP Graziano. I'm happy with my choice. I ordered a classic Italian sub and it was exactly what I would have expected it to be. High quality cold cuts, plenty of Chicago accents, and the bonus of lemon soda available in the fridge. Of course, I grabbed some salt and vinegar chips too, because that's a requirement. Thanks for the nice "Welcome to Chicago" meal, JPGG!"

Cermak Fresh Market

Cermak Fresh Market

Thomas G. "What led me to Cermak Fresh Market was its weekly sales published that I receive on a weekly basis. Every week I view coupons with sales from grocery stores like Jewel Osco, Mariano's, Fairplay Foods, Aldi and Pete's Fresh Market comparing the different prices of foods I love that are on sale. And out of the five Cermak locations listed, this location was the closest to me.Leaving work at the time, I made it a priority to drive down W Irving Park Rd because it puts me near this location that is tucked away on N Kedzie Ave. The location has its own private parking lot with plenty of space for the amount of customers it serves daily. What I do not understand about its layout is that its only entrance sits on N Kedzie which can be very hectic while exiting either way, mostly during the afternoon hours. With that, I recommend choosing wisely when you visit or you may be stuck in the parking lot waiting to exit or stuck in traffic for a long period of time on N Kedzie Ave. That alone can discourage anyone after grocery shopping, especially while dealing with impatient drivers, too.In comparison to all of the other grocery stores I have mentioned like Jewel Osco, Mariano's, Fairplay Foods, Aldi and Pete's Fresh Market, Cermak Fresh Market is the smallest yet still has everything you may need. Designed more as a neighborhood grocery store I imagine that it can get pretty congested at select times of the day. And its aisles are about two carts length side-by-side.During my visit, the shopping cart I grabbed appeared to be sprayed down which was a huge kudos with everything going on in the world right now. I do love that grocery stores like Cermak Fresh Market are taking precautions to reduce the coronavirus spread because customers are in-and-out like clockwork throughout the day.I visited solely to purchase a couple of weekly sales of my interest: the Hinckley springs purified water, and a 6 pack of Sprite were two of my main purchases; both were $2.99 each! Last month, I was bummed because I missed the chance to grab a 6 pack of Pepsi, but seeing the same deal with a different option like Sprite assured me that they will list it at some point again.Overall I had a pleasant shopping experience at this Cermak Fresh Market location and I anticipate seeing its weekly sales. My return at this location will be based solely on the sales I see as the time goes on because I do not have the patience to deal with traffic in the area for nothing, plus it is not on a driving route I frequent. ~Blessings~Thomas G"

Denyce M. "Out of desperation I stopped at HarvesTime. I was in need of bananas, was absolutely cranky because of traffic and really needed bananas. The thought of going to Jewel or Marino's with the traffic was out of the question as I could not muster the testicular fortitude to go pass Ashland in traffic.I have passed this place many times, but had no idea what to expect. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the selection. The produced looked amazing, but the prices were all over the place. Some items were priced reasonably, but others were way over the top. Green grapes, which I adore, were $3.99, a dollar more than Jewel or Marino's. The bananas, which I was so desperately in need of, were $0.69. Money tends to be no object for me for some things: spent $17 on green grapes, but could not wrap my mind around the price for the bananas. That is similar to Targete charging $0.59 for a single banana. Nope, nope and nope. Now what I did like was the meat section. Great looking fresh and frozen meats and the prices were very good. They even had frozen rabbits, so I know where to go when I want some. There was a nice selection of Boar's Head meats and cheeses...love that brand. Fresh baked breads and desserts that looked tasty. There was a nice selection of prepared foods...entire meals, salads, soups, etc. There were homemade soups as well Panera brand.Nice selection of ethnic foods, some with labels in the language of origin of the country, but the store was smart and placed them next to the similar items for those of us that were not able to read the labels. The one thing I did not get but want to try was yogurt with fruit on top in glass containers. That was a first for me and it looked intriguing. I will stop there just to buy those beauties. There were also these ginormous bags of rice...reminded me of the days when I would go rice shopping (yes you heard right) with my Filipino GF. She would cook rice every day in these rice cookers and routinely bought these big ass bags of rice. Until I met her, I had no idea rice came in bags bigger than 2 lbs. So for those that are looking for big bags o' rice, this is your place. There is a parking lot across the street from the store, but they need to put up a sign that says you can't take them out of the store. As I loaded up my Marino containers in mine to roll across the street (four of them), the cashier stopped me to let me know that I could not. To their credit, they did offer to help me to my car. Just know if you are loaded down with a lot of groceries and parked across the street, you will need help loading your purchases. There is diagonal parking on the side of the store, but good luck getting those as there are only a few of them.Even though I did not get the bananas, which was the whole reason for stopping in there, I did like what I saw while looking around. I would say again to be aware of the prices. Some are amazing, but some are very high, like Whole Foods high."

Hannah E. "The storied porchetta sandwich really is THAT good. Decadently oily bread, like a good focaccia (but not actually focaccia, I don't think - just oily because of the aioli that soaks into the bread instead of spurting out the sides), crispy-edged porchetta, salt bombs of fried capers. For me, the portions could use a little adjusting (more arugula, please, and maybe less meat, so it's not SUCH a grease bomb) but other than that it's perfect. The rest of the store is about what you'd expect for a high-end specialty butcher-centered shop in Lincoln Square. If you're looking for several varieties of kombucha, high-end pasta, or half-serving sized cheesy popcorn for $5, this is your place. Not somewhere I'd grocery shop, but if I'm already shelling out for a $14 sandwich, might as well complete it with another $14 worth of fancy drinks and sides."

It is not a huge grocery store, but it is a fair size and has enough interesting products on the shelves to make it a pleasant shopping experience. There is a parking lot next to the store that always seems busy, as it shares space with a 24 hour bakery. The first part of the store features fruits and vegetables. You will see some random pinatas hanging from the ceiling (for purchase??). My lovely friend mentioned that she bought some of the best (leanest) cuts of chicken that she has ever seen. Indeed there was recently a crazy good sale where you could practically stock up on meats for the year. The deli counter also featured some fine cheeses, and there was a cooler with some fresh tempting tamales. The workers all seemed very friendly and helpful during our recent visit. Chicago Produce lives up to its name by selling some pretty tasty and reasonably priced produce."
