Tricia D. "Oh geez, I started this review half a year ago, and just got sidetracked. #behindinyelpingI have fond memories of this (my first) visit, as it was to celebrate a good friend's birthday. We looked past the extremely slow service, as we were enjoying our dinner conversation and each had a martini or 2 to tide us over. Note: the lychee and pear martinis were a hit! The kitchen also sent over an apologetic extra set of potstickers for us to inhale.By far, the STAR dish of the night was my duck curry. It was so flavorful, hearty, and comforting. I would order it again in a heartbeat. I have thought about that scrumptious dish many times this year. Everyone in my party of 4 enjoyed their food, and we shared the chocolate banana bread dessert too.We had the table by the fireplace, which definitely got quite warm, so make that logistical memo.Me of the future: come back here for that duck curry!"

We came for their specialty- the soup dumplings. The xiao long bao (soup dumplings) that we got had the pork and crab in it and were wonderfully delicious and flavorful. We also got the schezuan green beans in a tasty pork sauce that was recommended by the waiter, and this was a nice side dish with rice. Such an affordable meal too!"

It doesn't mean that the classic pho isn't done right though, it's still hearty and meaty and loaded with everything you need. I will say the pho was heavy on black pepper and the noodles were a little fused BUT it's still a decent bowl of pho. I will say the real highlights are their non-pho dishes and their fusion and Yugoslavian dishes, I highly encourage you to branch out and explore the menu. I love cevapcici and it was so good in the spring roll!! Everything I tried was wonderful and the light, aromatic flavors truly hit the spot. The hawaiian leaf sausage is a must have, and they also have a plethora of banh mi options (+ other menu options) that I'm dying to return to try. The food comes out quickly and the staff are super sweet. The inside is very simple and barebones, but spacious and comfortable.Food I tried:- Hawaiian leaf sausage rice paper rolls (4.9/5): The hawaiian leaf sausage is one of the best things I've had in awhile. It's absolutely fire-- so juicy and flavorful.- Charbroiled pork skewer banh mi (4.7/5): A very solid and tasty banh mi for a reasonable price- $8. The bread was fresh and airy, the pork was juicy and flavorful, the veggies were sharp and crisp, and the sandwich was well sauced and not dry.- Grilled shrimp vermicelli bowl (4.3/5): Another solid dish that we enjoyed. The shrimp was a little overcooked but the lightly sweet and fishy flavors were on point.--Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5Food: 4.6/5Ambience: 4.2/5Service: 4.8/5Overall Value: 4.6/5"

When we walked inside they got rid of all their old booths and now they have wooden tables and chairs where the booths used to be. It looks nice. My husband ordered the BBQ Fried Rice lunch special and chose egg rolls for his appetizer. The serving size is smaller and yet is very filling! He says it is mild which he loves and tasted great! He would definitely order it again. I ordered the Beef Pho with egg rolls as my appetizer too. As always the food here is delicious and fresh. I added all the toppings and it was flavorful enough that I did not even have to add any of the sauces on the table. We got extra food for the same price for a soup dish (we made sure to tip her really generously). The food was flavorful. I ordered "ca kho to" (137) and "canh chua chay" (186) on their menu. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to narrow down my search of Vietnamese restaurants within a radius of the area. Hoanh Long was ranked number two out of pho restaurants which was what I craved at the time. The menu online as well as pictured is very organized! I really loved how options were separated; it made ordering easy for someone like me who is a vegetarian because everything vegetarian was in one section. I ordered the Mi Xao Chay which consisted of egg noodle stir fried with vegetable & tofu. It took thirty-nine minutes from the time of my order to the arrival of it at my doorstep via Grubhub. The Mi Xao Chay smelled fantastic! Its portion size was satisfying as well as its taste. The one thing I will likely do away with next time is the tofu because the vegetables were satisfying enough.I had a pleasant ordering experience with this restaurant. I usually like scallion-ginger oil over my Hainan chicken, but Phodega uses a ginger-garlic sauce. The fried chicken is very crispy. The white rice is so flavorful after being cooked in chicken fat; whoever thought of this idea is a genius. The beef pho comes with both sliced ribeye and beef meatballs. The portions are big. The a/c could have been a bit cooler as it was one of the hotter/humid days of the summer, but acceptable. We had the tendon, brisket and tripe noodle soup which was a big hit. The soup was flavorful, complex and had so many different flavors going on in it. Also ordered a side of extra noodles $1.5 which definitely needed as my family shared the dishes together. The vermicelli lemon grass pork salad was a really filling serving size and had a blast of flavor from the fish sauce dressing. Perfect for a hot day dish. LD Pho is one of these. Good prices for a pretty large bowl of noodles and protein. The broth is kind of bland, which is the only complaint, but it helps with a touch of seasoning. Among the best foods for cool weather is pho in a bowl. It just does something good. The weather was pretty cool for this time of year. Luckily this place wasn't far. We stopped in and got a couple bowls of the Pho Chay, which is vegan. It's $13 for a pretty big ass bowl. This has basil, bean sprouts, jalapeños, mushrooms, and tofu. Bowls only come in the one size, meaning there likely will be leftovers. The broth was kind of too much like water, and needed a little seasoning from the hot sauce and peppers. If you're craving pho or Vietnamese food and don't want to wait in line elsewhere, Pho Cafe will do the trick! It's pretty low key and quiet which is sometimes a nice change from all the bustle of Chinatown. The review is for the food when I came here to dine in last week. While I normally order pho, I decided to get a grilled pork chop vermicelli bowl with a side of broth (extra $2). My husband got the grilled pork rice plate. For apps, we shared the beef skewers which were really tender and flavorful - my favorite thing we ordered that night. I got some fresh shrimp spring rolls as well (an order comes with 2).Pho Cafe has a wide selection of items on their menu, but my most recent visit felt kind below average. The spring rolls did not have bean sprouts (just shrimp, Thai basil, and rice vermicelli) and the hoisin dipping sauce tasted extra watered down. My husband's pork plate that comes with Chinese sausage only included two meagerly segments. Perhaps it was an off day when we went, because my mom is a huge fan (!) and overall it's nice to have Vietnamese options in a Chinatown, in addition to The Noodle on Wentworth and a version of it from Joy Yee's. Generally it's pretty solid. And a lot of folks do carry-out or delivery.Has the shortage of sriracha really (negatively) impacted pho in restaurants around the world? That was kind of the vibe of our meal there: "we are out of sriracha, we are doing our best (and we understand there was more to be expected)..." I could be projecting. Anyway, their replacement sriracha was actually a Tabasco branded hot chili sauce. It's not the same, and that's the way it is.This won't be my last time at Pho Cafe, but I hope next time we dine here we will feel a little bit more love from the dishes."

It's one of biggest pet peeves in the food industry. Anywho, I placed an order of their Spring Rolls, Saigon Pho and Slap Yo Mama Crab Fried Rice. The spring rolls came with shrimp, pork, rice noodle, lettuce, herbs and served with a side of peanut sauce and crushed peanuts. These were actually really good and refreshing. A very light way to start a meal. The Saigon Pho I felt could have used more flavor. I only tried a little bit; but haven't really been a big fan of taking out Pho or Ramen. Like to eat that stuff inside the restaurant. Felt like they could have given us more Hoisin sauce to add to the pho. It was served with grilled brisket, flank steak, cilantro, holy basil, and bean sprouts in a beef bone marrow broth. I'm a sucker for rice and knew I had to order the Slap Yo Mama Crab Fried Rice. While it's certainly on the pricey side, they definitely don't skimp out on the crab meat. This was also served with shrimp, green onion, egg yolk, butter garlic sauce, masago, cilantro and scallions. The slap to mama seasoning really went well with the rice and the shrimp and crab. The waitress was very friendly, nice and attentive. The place has simple decor, clean and cozy. I got my order to go. I ordered chicken pad Thai, Pho Tai, and crispy fried egg rolls. I wanted to get their pork rice dish but she told me the pork wasn't done marinating yet :( so I opted for pad thai instead. If you order pad thai, know that this is a Vietnamese place so the pad thai isn't going to taste anything like what you'd get at a Thai restaurant. It's less sweet , no cabbages, and the chicken was spicy. I didn't remember seeing anywhere on the menu indicating the chicken pad thai is spicy. I got this dish for my toddler and obviously, they weren't able to eat it. It was a bummer. The closest thing this dish is anything like pad thai are the noodles lol I would not be ordering this dish here again. It is a good noodle dish! But I wasn't liking the heat on the chicken or the flavors as much. The Pho, on the other hand, was delicious! (One would hope! Lol) Since I got mine to go, I picked the option of having to cook the meat myself at home. (The beef slices came in a zip lock bag. ) There was lots of noodles and bean sprouts in the container. The portion was huge! Easily can be shared with another person. Remember not to over cook the noodles! After the broth boils, I'd just throw the noodles , veggies and beef in there for a min or two max! Otherwise, you will get really soggy noodles. And let the beef defrost a little bit.The egg rolls were good. Crispy with lots of filling inside. I do have to mention it was very oily tho. I reheated it up and soaked up the oil with paper towels. My husband ordered a strawberry smoothie that was really good. The pho was really good and portions are generous. They only accepted cash so something to consider. Overall okay experience."
