The Original Turkey

Getting through the Reading Terminal Market is a very specific experience and not for the faint of heart. I entered through a side door that already had a line out the door, due to a rib restaurant right inside, but after navigating through the crowd and every other line crowd within the market, finally found myself at the open seating section.There was no place to sit, so we did what many others were doing and watched those seated closely. The minute any group indicated they might be leaving, the table vultures (myself included) descended on them to see who could claim the table first.After a few foiled attempts on my part, I finally scored a table for 4, after which my party and I all agreed to tag team heading out on the floor for food. I was not in the first search and acquire mission and so had some time to plan what I was going to go for once it was my turn...and then I spotted...The Original Turkey counter RIGHT across the way.Many may not understand my love of turkey dinner. I love everything about it; the potatoes, the stuffing, the other sides, the gravy AND the cranberry sauce! Once I spotted The Original Turkey, there was no going back.As soon as the first round returned, I ran right over and ordered a turkey lunch with 2 sides (green beans and stuffing) with extra gravy and cranberry, and...it was everything I had hoped for and more! There was a generous amount of fresh turkey, the stuffing was perfect, the green beans were well seasoned and better than I had anticipated, gravy = 100% and they really did give me extra cranberry.All around fantastic!

Run don't walk to this turkey joint. Nicely brined, well cooked, and very moist turkey breast. Get some gravy and all the fixins. It's like Thanksgiving in the middle of June. Hershel's next door is fantastic too, but do not overlook this spot. The lunch box is a good value, and you cannot go wrong with the turkey sandwiches.

Luckily the line was short and moved quickly! It was after 1 pm on a Friday. I got the #6 Turkey, stuffing and cranberry on sourdough. I should've went with the hoagie roll to hold up better the sourdough was good and fresh but didn't hold the sandwich together. But omg so good still. They forgot to give me napkins. Comes with a small bag of lays potato chips and is perfect to add some crunch.Grabbed a shared table and enjoyed my meal.

Ordered the lunch meal which includes turkey with 2 sides. I got turkey with macaroni and and cheese, string beans and an small container of Cranberry sauce with was extra. The turkey was absolutely delicious, nice, juicy turkey breast, mac and cheese was cheesey and gooey the greens beans were fresh and had a little bit of snap. The meal was worth the price and hit the Thanksgiving spot in the middle of summer.

Thanksgiving in July can be a thing at this place inside Reading Terminal Market. I was very surprised by the tastiness from this place. Potatoes had some which I don't usually like but these were buttery and rich. Dressing and gravy were handmade. And turkey was most and portions were large.

You can't really say something in Redding Terminal is Philly's best kept secret, but in a sense this place genuinely is. And I'm basing that off an experience I had this past Saturday while the market was packed with people.There were massive lines for Dinic's and all the cheesesteak places, which aren't even among the best in the city for cheesesteaks. But nobody was in line for Original Turkey. Having been eating here since I was a little kid, I knew of its excellence and dropped in for a meal.Just imagine if the best tasting Thanksgiving dinner you've ever had was available every day for around $12-$15. It's simply amazing. And the high quality hasn't wavered in 30 years. If you want to save a couple bucks, get the lunchbox. It's still a very generous portion and runs around $12. Truly one of the GOATs of Philly and Redding Terminal. If you know you know!

I was in town for a conference and stopped in at the Reading Terminal Market. Wow what a busy place. I walked around multiple times to figure out what I wanted to eat. On the first pass I saw this place and thought oh that's a good option. I went around a second time and still came back to this. On the third time around, I decided this is the only thing that would hit the spot.I got the 2 side platter. It comes with Turkey and Cranberry sauce and I picked corn and potatoes as my two sides.This platter was big enough to feed two people. It's so good!There was no line so I was able to get my food quickly. Wow. It's so delicious.It was a little pricey at $15 BUT there's a lot of food. The whole market is super busy and worth a stop by if you are in the area.

Fabulous turkey!!! Amazing sides which include mash potatoes with gravy, corn, green beans, Mac and cheese and other delicious goodness. Wonderful place for a sandwich or plater.

I don't eat beef anymore, but I fondly recall Reubens. So I was intrigued by a turkey option. It was disappointing. First, it was cold. As in I hope the meat had not been sitting out too long. Next very little seasoning in the meat and the rye bread lacked rye flavor. Overall, there is no comparison to a real hot Reuben. If the turkey had been hot, I think it might have faired better.

It's like being able to have Thanksgiving all year long. If you love turkey, this is the place to come. I got the platter and it was a massive portion of turkey with stuffing, mashed potato with gravy, and corn. Everything was seasoned well and tasty. I also got extra cranberry sauce ($1 extra), because why not. I easily could have made two meals out of this or at least shared it, but yes I ate it all in one sitting and felt miserable for being so full. This is hands down one of the best places to eat at Reading Terminal.
