I have been to a number of Indian grocery stores that feel crammed in a small space, that's not the case with My Spice. It is a large space and very organized. They have everything you need from fresh meats and seafood to a large variety of spice and rice. My Spice Grocery also has fresh chai and coffee available as well as a grill where I had some great chicken biryani. My Spice, well done!!"

I had also tried the palak paneer which I think is better than a lot of places but I am not a big fan of too much cumin. The biryani's are tasty and a must-try, and I think maybe actually taste better the next day. I also tried the chicken samosa and the samaosa which were good but not my favorite favorite, but still good. Also had the seekh chicken kabob which has a lot of spices, which I also liked, but I think it can be a bit strong for some. The chicken tikka leg was ok to me. I think you get your money's worth on everything here though. Really glad this cafe is available for good Indo-Pak cuisine. The only thing I would say needs improvement is the card reader which starts off with Leave a Tip and you have to press the button to put yes or no."

I never took the aloof customer service too personally anyways. I know that people may have language and cultural barriers. Anyhow, I like this ethnic shop because it carries a lot of unique and international grocery. Its not too far from where I live and it definitely beats driving all the way to Phoenicia. I still visit Phoenicia every now and then, but this spot is closer and its smaller as well, so it makes grabbing items quick. They have fresh cut meats and they also have fruits and vegetables. They have a nice dairy selection.. consisting of yogurt, labne and various European cheeses. I also like their spice selection as well. If you're looking into jazzing up your flavour palate, than I definitely recommend buying the spices here. They also have a nice candy and jam selection. I love buying the Turkish version of nutella here. It's the Ulker brand. They also carry this nice hazelnut spread which is delectable on toast. You can easily find a random and unique gift for someone here. All in all, Makkah Mart has something for everyone. It's a nice and clean shop that's tucked away in a quiet neighborhood."

Even though the only thing I was thinking when I saw the bright lights illuminating HUNG DONG from the highway was Frank Reynolds' line from one of the best episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: "Whoops! I dropped my monster condom that I use for my magnum dong." They don't sell that here, but thanks for asking.I found this while on a brief frolic and detour from trying to find the Sam Houston Race Park for the Cirque du Soleil and being led astray by Siri for a few turns just within spitting distance of actually finding SHRP - he was promptly put in time out for that freshman move.I wanted to stock up on snacks that could be smuggled into Amaluna a la movie theatre style - I had the pocket depth for some real candy. Unfortunately I walked out empty handed. Nothing caught my fancy. Selection of snacks took a hit for one star and then the overwhelming smell that slaps you in the face as you walk in also reduced it a star. It's in a huge strip mall and parking is very limited. That might reduce star quality further. But if you use it as a waypoint when you try to find SHRP and Siri is sassin' you up with wrong directions, it's a good place to stop and look for snacks. Don't expect a five star assortment and be ready to become one with the overwhelming stench."

(yes, i just said foodstuffs.) there were rainbow colored beans in one aisle, and funky drinks that some people's wildest imaginations couldn't even come up with. i got me some guava nectar (standard classic), and a bizarre pink drink that was rose flavored with basil seeds. i used to trick my white friends that bubble tea was tadpoles, and always got a kick out of the disgusted faces they'd make as i happily slurped it all down. well, i don't know if these are real basil seeds, or what, but these things really do look like tadpoles. well, if they are, they taste like tapioca balls and have the texture of ikura (salmon roe). anyways, i'm not dead, and i drank it yesterday, so i guess i'm a fan."

Dave F. "This review is for the cafe in the back. Umm, bacon - let that word start to resonate in your mind.I was hungry while driving between Houston and San Antonio. Not expecting much for being out in the country, I decided to hit up Yelp for lunch. Well, today was a lucky spin.Imagine a cold winter day. You're in the house trying to get warm. The only thing that feels good is a warm blanket. Why does this matter? When I opened my bacon cheeseburger, there was literally a bacon blanket covering the inside of my burger. As I closed the burger and brought it to my mouth for the first bite, it was like the music video for Loverboy's Almost Paradise song. I'm not even kidding -- not only was the burger solid, but there was an appropriate bacon overload. Some bacon fell out, but there was still plenty of bacon in the burger. Oh, and don't worry -- I didn't leave a fallen bacon behind. I will post a picture of the burger.I had ordered onion rings as well, but truthfully I never made it to them. I was full about halfway through my burger. I devoted all of my strength to taking down edible work of art. Man won with the burger, but the onion rings were orphaned. If you're driving between Houston and San Antonio, stop by. They take all major credit cards. It's only 2 minutes or so off the highway. I can't wait to stop back by this place. BTW, if you don't see any reviews from me for a while, I'm in a food coma."

Just recently, my friend Cathy wanted to show a group of people that vegan dim sum exists in Houston Chinatown. This is not a fancy restaurant nor with a full service. So, don't ask much, just look. As I walked in, grocery store was the first thing I see. Walk towards the left if their restaurant. Employees are very friendly. But not everyone speaks fluent English. So, be patient. One side of food warmer is for lunch box. Next one is the dim sum display. Further, the restaurant cashier is at the end of the line. You can order banh mi or noodles or anything from the menu that is not on display.Food has gone up due to inflation, this is nothing new across the country. So, the two-item and three-item lunch is really reasonable. I ordered some dim sum and asked for a knife to cut them for sharing. They gave me a pair of scissors instead.Three pieces of any type of Dim Sum is $5.50. All vegan. Don't complain there is not meat. Even though they have chicken and beef on the menu. I also ordered Bún bò Huế with vegetarian beef. Sigh... The "beef" is flavored textured soy protein slices. The display looks like the real thing. Vegan version of real thing actually tasted pretty good. Don't overthink what the real thing tastes like.If you want fresh vegan dim sum, best to come before noon. You'll get the real taste of San San Tofu."

I originally planned to eat at the establishment, but the way big delay for a burger and fries caused me to run out the door and not even get a chance to eat my food until after I drove home. The day I visited it was not even that busy to have a 15 minute wait for a burger and fries. Like seriously? While they were fresh, I was able to eat some fries during my meeting, but the burger was way later. Don't get me wrong- the price point for the burger and fries is fine, but you gotta season the meat! It was the most bland burger I've ever tasted. Even with mustard, the patty still needed salt. Where else can you order a Japanese rice lager, strawberry rhubarb smash, quiche, tart cherry sour (featuring whiskey, tart cherry shrub, and egg white), torrijas, fresh juice, Mexican coke, wine, fattosh salad, herbal tea, grilled cheese, and Cortado all in one spot (and I'm excluding food halls in this rhetorical question)! While some may ask if this spot is having an identity crisis, they suggest their menu is loosely Mediterranean inspired, and I personally think it provides a fun reason to revisit! My lunch was fairly simple- Americano with oat milk, lamb flatbread, brownie (how boring of me), which may account for why my experience was just fine. The lamb flatbread was tasty with the salsa, and while the simple greens provided a much needed textural crunch, I'd love a fresh/herbal element of an additional texture. The creaminess of some feta, or fresh addition of some ground mint would really blow this dish away. While I was there there were only 2 person studying on my visit, being relatively quiet at this time of day, I can see how this can be a beautiful study/remote work spot (with gorgeous light). The rest of the crowd consisted of duos (mainly female, with a few significant others seemingly convinced into joining).Overall, pretty solid spot!
