Leang E. "I must have forgotten to review this place over 10 years back when I first came. It's so nostalgic in so many ways because it's a place that a friend who has now passed away brought me here. It was one of his favorites. It's so Chicago and Thai, filled with love as associated with what Cozy encompasses. It's a kitschy spot and thus will begin your attachments to wanting so many delicious items here. The decor is fun and filled with childlike comforts. The menu has lots of fun baseball named items. I came with my coworkers whom I easily convinced that eating Thai food would be much better than ball park food before the game. We forgot share so many delicious items: baby eggrolls, crab Rangoons, gyozas, shrimp salad, Chicken Tom yum soup, chicken satay, Wrigley Forever, Doubleheader, salmon red curry, salmon special, pineapple fried rice. Everything was flavorful and delicious! Service was great, and I will try not to wait too long to come back again. It's a small spot but was so impressed that all 6 of us got to eat together. It's a place my team will not forget. Cash only!"

The service was quick and the price is amazing for the huge portion of food you get. I didn't get to check out the cool eating area downstairs but the ambiance feels authentic too! Some of the better Thai we have had in the city"

Hannah E. "Good Northern Thai/Laotian has been hard for me to find in Chicago and this is the first place to come close to being what I'm looking for. This is going to be my go-to for when I need to be hit over the head with herbs and spices. The Northern sausage tastes like inhaling a pack of galangal straight from the herb section of the supermarket, and is respectably spicy, too. If your tongue is somehow still bored, you can take a big bite out of the sticks of straight ginger they give you to go along with it.For the main course I got the ap pla, something I actually have not had before, but sounded like the perfect entree. First of all, anything steamed in a banana leaf is an automatic yes, because it holds all the flavors in perfectly. But also, it's fish and eggplant and lime leaf and spices, many of my favorite things. It's maybe not as explosively flavorful as similar dishes (either Laotian mok pa or Cambodian amok trey), but it had a nice mellow savory profile and was a nice foil to the kick of the sausage."

Kesha B. "LOVE. If I had to describe our experience in 1 word, it's love! We came by for an early dinner on Sunday and were immediately sat. The parking is paid metered parking, but there was plenty of it despite being in a busier area. The restaurant was decked out with colors, lights, palm trees and was truly an escape from Chicago. To start we had the Crying Tiger, and the Spicy Crab Rangoon. The Crying Tiger was full of flavor, and cooked to the perfect temp. The steak was delish with and without the dipping sauce, but to amplify the flavors... highly recommend dipping! The spicy crab Rangoon was a fun party of its own. The crunch from the wrap to the warm creamy crab filling, the spice wasn't too crazy with all the cream filling but with the sweet chili sauce it made for the perfect bites. We shared the lava roll, it reminded me of the viva Las Vegas roll from ra sushi, but this was filled with so much more. The crab meat on top had a nice kick to it. As if we weren't already full, we also ordered the general tso chicken sandwich, and the burger to try. Both of which were delish! The general tso was my pick between the two. The pineapple had a nice sweet and tangy flavor to each bite. For dessert, I wanted to try the Vietnamese tiramisu but they were sold out. All the more reason to come back again soon! The service was great, despite how busy they got the team really made each table feel special in their own way and were extremely attentive."

Mark S. "Our party of three all had curry. The Red Curry had great flavor, ask for it mild if you are sensitive to spice. The Panang was also good, as was the Signature Curry which had a lot of filling in the sauce, some kind of crunchy noodle, potato, some kind of squash along with chicken. Could have used more sauce with all the filling. The prices at Indie Cafe are relatively reasonable, considering restaurant prices these days. The ambiance on one side of the restaurant is somewhat lacking. It seems a little cozier on the side to the north. We parked right in front at a metered spot."

Ryne D. "This place's name confused me for the longest time - like, it's called Pho's, but that's traditionally a Vietnamese dish. But this place specializes in Thai food. BUT - they actually do have Pho on the menu? Well anyway, what they're really known for is great Thai food...but you also can't ignore the "Spicier" in their name.I like heat in my food, but you need to heed their warnings here. I usually go with "Mild Plus", which would probably equate to a level above medium at most other spots. Of course if you were nuts you could try for their spice challenges, but I find it more enjoyable to watch other people attempt them.Pretty much everything is good here. I usually go for the pad khe mao, parang curry or green curry, and have never been disappointed. Their lunch specials are amazing too, as you get a small soup and egg roll with your food, and is usually my go to when I forget to do groceries before the week starts. The actual location is pretty tightly packed, but other than that it's a great mainstay of the area and a spot worthy journeying out to this small spot of Lakeview for."

There's lots of things for various needs including vegetarian friendly and others. Came here with the girl at lunch to get some noodles and spicy food. I was in the mood for Thai, but not sure about her. The food here is good but the prices aren't the best, so it's best to come for the lunch specials. It's about $14 for most entrees. Lunch specials are a few bucks cheaper, and you still get a lot. Both of us got something with noodles, and these had a protein choice. Of course tofu. I had the Pad Khee Mao. This is wide rice noodles with baby corn, carrots, green beans, green peppers, and tomatoes. She had the Pad See Ew. This also was wide rice noodles, but had broccoli among vegetables. Food was pretty big portions especially at lunch. There were enough leftovers for later meals. Even at lunch it has big portions for not a lot. It has more than just noodles. There's many items that can be made vegan or vegetarian."

We came for their specialty- the soup dumplings. The xiao long bao (soup dumplings) that we got had the pork and crab in it and were wonderfully delicious and flavorful. We also got the schezuan green beans in a tasty pork sauce that was recommended by the waiter, and this was a nice side dish with rice. Such an affordable meal too!"

We ate family style mostly (it was not my red meat day) and had potstickers, fried rice, and various other dishes (see below). They are very smart to have a menu with numbers next to the food so they don't have to hear people butcher the language. I enjoyed everything and took some stuff home. The tofu with greens and gravy was especially good, and it's hard to mess up egg rolls. The service was friendly and efficient, and even the owner/manager stopped by! I like when that happens, but my acquaintance is a long time customer so maybe that was why? It is not a big place but we had a decent crowd for a Tues/Wed. I should have taken a photo of him but I was digging in and couldn't multitask. Husband got the basil chicken. He is not big on Asian food which is why we don't come here more often. I mean it's only 5-10 minutes from our home. We should come once a week!!! Oh well. I'm gonna start sneaking on my weekday lunches when he's working. We also had to sneak a red bean coconut smoothie. Couldn't let our boy see it cause then we wouldn't get a sip. Hubby likes it. So I said I'd share it although I didn't really want too. Service is great. They'll get super busy but they'll get to you eventually. Anyway, check them out. Food is great and reasonably priced. Less than $40 with tax and tip. I'd rather spend it here than Panera which is where my husband prefers for the fresher / healthier. But honestly, we spent 42 the other day at Panera for 2 cups of soup, 1/2 a salad, 1/2 a sandwich and a cup of macaroni/cheese. Really?! I know. Everything is much more expensive nowadays. Well, we can get healthy options at Jenn's too! They have many options. Veggies and tofu and other yummy options."

We ordered the usual, Chicken Satay, Pad See Ew for my wife and Pad Khee Mao for me. I've definitely had better Chicken Satay. The chicken was ok, but the salad it came with was not food and the peanut sauce to dip the chicken satay was not good at all. Way too watery and no flavor. I'm prefer my sauce thick so when you dip the chicken in, it sticks. The Pad See Ew came with chicken, stir fried noodles, broccoli, Chinese broccoli, egg and sweet soy sauce. I had a few bites and it was very delicious. My Pad Khee Mao was very tasty. I always ask for it extra spicy and it's a hit or miss. Not from here. It was indeed spicy. The Pad Khee Mao came with the same stir fried noodles, beef, brown sauce, basil, bean sprouts, and onions. Definitely a very filling dish and would order it again."

Mostly it focuses on Thai such as noodles and stuff with coconut. The prices aren't bad for the usually great quality. At lunch things are a bit cheaper. It's the main reason we came at this time. There's also plenty of good vegan and vegetarian choices and lots of spicy stuff or whatever. It's about $12 for a cocktail. There's a good amount of Asian inspired ones. Among these is the Bangkok Mule. This was made with kaffir lime infused vodka. Crisp and refreshing. The food is kind of pricey, which is the only bad thing. It's about $16 for an entree. The vegetarian choices include the Crispy Rice With Iceberg Wedge. A lame name but it was good. This had chili lime dressing, ginger, peanuts, shallots, tofu noodles, and white jelly mushrooms. Had some good just slightly Americanized Thai food. It's pretty authentic to be honest. The pad Thai is very yummy and has all the qualities of pad Thai that I enjoy (sweet, savory, peanutty, texture, moisture), plus the best bonus is the amount of tofu that they add (lots)! They have excellent crab rangoon, my only complaint is the size, which has historically been extremely small, the size of a quarter, and then has an excessive amount of wrapping at the tail end (which I don't eat). Has pretty good prices for the quality. There's lunch specials and many things for any preferences of tastes. At lunch is the best time to come. It had pretty affordable lunch specials going on. This is only for weekdays. Has a lot to choose from. It's about $9 for the cheapest specials. Pick a noodle or rice. Then choose a protein. It's a few bucks or more for each. This then comes with a side. Add a few more bucks if wanting a soup. The one I got was the woonsen noodles, and I got it with tofu. Appetizer was the vegetable tempura. The noodles were those glassy ones and came with a good variety of vegetables. Carrots, long beans, and more. This was a good amount for the cheap price. Has only dinner on Sundays, but the rest of the week also has lunch. It only does takeout earlier so plan ahead about when to go make an order. It seemed like they work with a few delivery services so there were a few orders already out when I arrived. Curry fried rice was solid. Pad see ew was also solid. Chicken was the standard protein without an up charge for most entrees I clicked on. Both boxes were quite filled which was nice to see. Both were on the pricier side but I think it is on par with the prices for lunch in the area. Would have been cool to eat inside if we had time. Steve A. "Had some good stuff recently at this all vegan restaurant specializing in Thai and other Asian food. It looks like it may have been some dumpy Chinese restaurant at some other time, for sure it doesn't look like a hipster hangout. Vegan Plate has a pretty big menu for a small place like this. Get drinks such as smoothies and boba tea, all non dairy. The food has noodle and rice based entrees. A good thing is tofu isn't the only meat substitute, so it gives a chance to get something else plant based. It has pretend beef, chicken, and even fish. These are mostly based of soy, but these don't have the softness of tofu. Also there's non dairy drinks. It's about $4 for Milk Tea. This comes with boba for a little extra, and they put a lot of boba in this. It was boba in every sip pretty much. We liked this, but the food was the main thing. It's about $16 for the All Day Combo. This is a good way to get a few things. It comes with brown rice, house salad, and spring rolls. Then you choose the combo and protein to go with this. I got the Cashew Nut with the soy chicken. The soy chicken seemed like extra dried tofu that was then marinated in a sauce. Had a pretty light spiciness to it. There was a good a duet of vegetables including carrots and mushrooms. Good enough we have to try it some time again. It has a lot on the menu for a small place. This is on Fullerton near Ashland located close to a few other vegan places, but if you like Thai, you should try here though."

Having moved to Illinois recently from SoCal, we'd long patronized the Belacan Grill in Tustin- whose authenticity could never, ever be questioned. We wanted to see if Penang would offer a level of authenticity that would entice us to come back for more - it did, and we will. Ambience- we arrived on a cold Saturday morning, and were quickly seated. Not too busy at all. We ordered M'asian Kopi (coffee w/sweetened condensed milk) and quickly deemed it "authentic"! Score the first point! Second- the menu had Roti Canai and Paratha - now this is key. You get this right, you can win over my heart (not joking!). The Roti and extra Paratha came quickly, and the flavor of the chicken curry that accompanied it was just good enough to qualify as "as close to authentic as I can hope for in Illinois" - and that's not a bad thing - at all! We then ordered Mee Goreng as our "go to" entree - now when it arrived, we loved the look - the texture - the flavor was almost all right, but it was (sad to say) far too sweet. That said? We enjoyed it and would return! Our only true critique was that the price was SO high for what you get. Maybe we were spoiled in SoCal, but somehow I don't think the OC is that cheap - and Penang's definitely pricier. But that won't stop us - we'll be back for sure! Check it out for a decent take on M'asian food- we did, and we liked it."
