"We're back in Chicago....and back to the Greek Islands place. A great restaurant this place is!! Fried cheese dish is always the best we've had at Greek places. The fried eggplant was a great appetizer too. Now, I'm a big beef person, BUT, the chicken shish kabob was better than the beef! The fish dish was fabulous."
"Grateful to be here on the Orthodox Easter with 2 of my close friends to celebrate my 2nd chance in life after the stroke ordeal! We started off with calamari and saganaki. Both was fried to perfection and delicious! For the main dish, I choose chicken kabob. It came with 2 skewers of white meat, tomato, onions, tzatziki sauce and 1 pita bread. The chicken was juicy and well seasoned. There were enough tomato and onions to me to make small sandwiches using the pita. My friend opted for the roasted lamb from their Easter Special menu. She said it was very good. Her husband's chicken and pork skewers entree was equally good! They have a large parking lot with ample spaces for their customers. Large group for parties can be accommodated. The entire staff was pleasant and helpful.I've already made plans to take my family to the establishment soon!"

"In 2022 we ended up having a wedding rehearsal here and it was a huge hit amongst Greek and non Greek individuals. We have since moved from the area, but have come here at least once a year to enjoy truly Greek cuisine. Over this last weekend, the day before Easter, we came here and ended up feasting. The mini kabobs on their appetizer menu were more like traditional souvlaki you'd find in Greece but on smaller skewers. (Note if you order the kabob meal the meat is much larger and more American). We both agreed the appetizer is the way to go to enjoy a local but authentic souvlaki. It was incredibly busy, but we really enjoyed our food and the many leftovers. The ambiance was a little loud, but it didn't feel crowded despite it being packed. The only thing I would recommend is the frappe being served in a class cup. Bravo"
"Best falafel I've had in Chicago hands down @tazacafechicago The Loop, ChicagoMade with so much LOVEEE , this Mediterranean spot is super low key but been around for 13 years! Come in for platters , order catering for your office, group order with your office (sharing a ), or even grab a quick dinner after work in the loop All the food is made daily by Hamza (originally from Jordan). He gets in about 5-6am before the 10:30am lunch period begins. We got the below plates, all of their popular items that comes with fluffy dill basmati rice (so good!), Creamy Hummus + pita, and a cucumber tomato Mediterranean salad: Taza Combo (Chicken Shawarma & Gyro) Chicken Kabob & Falafel combo Falafel salad Their falafels are the BEST I've had in Chicago so far. hamza makes 500-2000+ of them dailyThey're fried fresh so they're super crunchy Packed with flavor with chickpeas, garlic, coriander, spices like cumin, s&p Make sure to get the assorted baklava. They're also made fresh in Chicago by a partner . They're so crispy, not too sweet, and filled with a variety of nuts!So dang good. They've started to extend their hours till 8pm and are closed Saturday and Sundays. Check it out!More videos and reviews on Instagram @midwestmunching (Sponsored)"
"WOW! What an incredible dining experience. We had the pleasure of having Mali and Eddie hosting us. They did a great job staying on top of drink refills and timely check ins with our group. My water never went empty and I drink a lot of water! We ordered the Saganaki for an appetizer which is the flaming cheese and OH MY GOSH.. it is a MUST. I could've eaten 5 of those by myself. If you like cheese and bread, order this for sure. I got the Greek stuffed Chicken which was amazing. The chicken was so tender and I loved the spinach and feta filling. The okra was great too!My friend got the chicken kabobs which were a nice portion as well. The design and decor of the restaurant is so unique and cozy. I absolutely loved it!"
"This Dengeos is located on the southwest corner of Main & Oakton in Skokie. After eating sushi for the past 4 days I need to change up my diet (go figure). So what do I get a fish sandwich & cream of chicken soup. I have been to Dengeos before & they do have better than average selection of everything to fast foods & meals. The soup was a very small bowl about 2/3 of the size of Marianos small soup bowl. Besides the portion being minuscule it cost $4.99. Honestly the chicken wild @ Marianos is better. I had the fish sandwich once before it was delicious the first time, but this time the fish tasted like it was cooked and sat for awhile. I know the difference of fish right out of the fryer or if it's been sitting for awhile.I wasn't very satisfied w/the quality of their food this time. I know they can make it better."
"Wow -- it doesn't get much better. The braised lamb shoulder was one of the my favorite dishes ever. Super tender, flavorful and delicious. The calamari had a nice kick, and the sauce paired with really made it. The cocktails were also nice, not too sweet and the orange cake dessert was divine.I don't think they could make a bad dish. Would absolutely recommend!"
"Skepasti is where it's at! The older pictures on Yelp show it being served on a fancy board. It now comes in a Styrofoam container. I had the chicken skepasti, and it was super flavorful. It came with a side of fries. I didn't eat many of the fries as the rest of the meal was very filling. Staff was friendly. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. It's located in a strip mall so there is lots of parking available. Pepsi products are served here."
"It's been nearly a year since my visit, but here goes this draft in my draftbox, begging me to finish! My friend brought me here for my 41st bday last August. It's a casual, but formal affair, if that makes sense. The space itself is pretty grand and you can tell a great amount of attention went into its detail. We sat in what appeared to be a sunroom, the entire restaurant was packed (but not in a mess hall sort of way). While the restaurant would not be one I'd opt for visiting (out of my price range and in the heart of Logan which isn't my cup of tea but perfect for my friend who's the king of showing off--love him to death), it was certainly worth the visit. This restaurant hit every nail on the head when it comes to an experience, a word that has lost its luster in today's greedy, corners-cut, post-covid climate. Our server made recommendations and got to know us, our runner delicately deboned our fish before our very eyes, a manager poked by, since we ordered wine a wine specialist ran down an extensive list of wines and their backstories. Just perfect. We also went for lamb chops, a beet salad and dessert specially adorned with a candle. You can tell the restaurant is operated by professionals dedicated to their craft and anyone with a restaurant (or business) could benefit paying them a visit to experience the experience of what an actual experience should look and feel like!"
"I finally had the opportunity to try Avli last night. It was Monday night and walking up you could see that there wasn't an empty table or bar seat to be found. Upon entry I was immediately greeted by two Greek Hostesses. While awaiting my guest I was also able to meet The GM Stefano who gave me a brief rundown on their brand. We had an assortment of drinks, enjoyed all four of their homemade spreads, the Pork Gyro and The Braised Lamb Shank. All were delish! The patio, which is West of Wells is nice and fairly tranquil given its location away from heavy traffic. The Greek Hospitality was omnipresent. I know I'll be back again soon."
"Came here for a birthday dinner for a friend with about 20 people. The Doctor and I got there early and asked if we could have our check separate from the group so we could pay for the birthday person. The server said they did not do separate checks, even though there was nothing on the menu that said that. We didn't expect that everyone was going to ask for separate checks, just wanted two checks for the table. Let's get to the food. When the best meal of the night is the appetizer, there is not much that can be said about the menu. The octopus was amazing! It was grilled to perfection and it was tender. Everything else was just ok. It got the Makaronada Me Kima (greek spaguetti with seasoned ground beef, tomatoes & herb sauce). The dish itself was good, just didn't knock my socks off like the octopus did.The Doctor ordered a gyro entrée but was brought a gyro sandwich instead. Due to the wait, he chose to eat it instead of having the server bring the right order. We are not big on sending food back, so we usually just pay and leave, but because we were celebrating a friend, we stayed. This was most likely going to be a one and done deal for me unless someone I care about really has a strong need to go there. There are too many great Greek restaurants to just settle. This is really a two star review, but that octopus gets a star."
"Great tasting food. Great value. Highly recommend the chicken breast pita. Pork kabobs are great also."

One of those longtime Chicago institutions in the Greektown area, Greek islands is my go to for a Greek food experience. There's not much to add here that has been said already except I usually like to come and get a bunch of small plates as opposed to entrées. Today we ordered the saganaki, Greek salad, Small gyros, spinach pie and side of Greek potatoes for lunch. Always love the bread basket at the table, especially the sesame bread. Services always fast and friendly. Yes it can be a little touristy overall but it's always fun to bring guests here. Good celebration place as well. Close to many of the universities in the city. They have free valet parking. You can probably find street parking as well.

Plateia Mediterranean Kitchen is a wonderful restaurant. I've been there several times and I've had a great meal every time. Their food is super flavorful and made from scratch. I ordered the pork skewer from the specials menu, while my husband had the chicken plate. It was super yummy. They started off our meal with fresh baked bread. We also got the saganaki. This came fried, but there were no crackers to dip it with. We were super disappointed that they didn't light it on fire in front of us. The best part of the meal was the dessert. The server recommended the eclair, and it was fantastic. There was a large group that was seated next to us. This group was very loud, and it was hard to hear people at our own table. The table they sat us at was right in the middle of all of the traffic, and everyone was constantly passing by our table, despite other tables being open when we were seated. Our servers were too busy to take care of us. We only saw them a few times and felt pressured to order quickly because we may not get to order again for a while. The complimentary bread took close to thirty minutes to come out. This could've gone well with the saganaki.I will come back to Plateia Mediterranean Kitchen for their excellent food. I just hope that the service improves by then.

This place is so good!! Order in person for fairer pricing and options. The staff is nice and the service is quick. I ordered a side of 3 falafels but they were a little small so wish I had ordered 6. The falafel was really good perfect crisp and flavor and I also ordered rice (not what i'm used to but good) and Baba Ghanouj (amazing too). Dolma was also really really good and i'm normally not a fan of them. Hummus was subtle and yummy. Will definitely come back!

Athena is beyond mythical. This Greek gem has great food, an amazing patio, and a bar that catches the perfect winds from that patio. The food is solid and the drinks are great. The frappe was abit of a let down, Overall, it's worth coming in to hear OPA! As the saganaki lights up

Dengeos has been a staple go to in the area for Greek food since I could remember. Located right on the corner of Main street and McCormick avenue, the scent from all the deliciousness cooking inside spreads throughout the neighborhood. The menu boasts your typically Greek fast food cuisine with gyros, Grecian style chicken and the like with so many options to choose from.We came in to order carryout to eat at home. The indoor dining area was packed and lively. The atmosphere was very welcoming and inviting and felt like I was about to eat at one of my family parties. I knocked this review one star because the ordering line and organization in who was next and where to go was a bit chaotic and no real organization to speak of. With that said, I decided to take the first opportunity to order when I could. We mostly ordered chicken dishes,, chicken Philly, chicken gyros (the chicken is shredded like the traditional gyros meat and not chunks like other places), chicken kabob and side orders of fries, and there Italian meatball for my daughter. All superb tasting and definitely worthwhile to return back.

Mocktail: Halara - not too sweet but good. I liked it. Meal: Ceviche: 10/10. Highly recommend. Service: Zoya - super attentive and very informative. Everyone was really helpful and nice. Ambiance: it's beautiful. I wore a dress and felt very comfortable in that. Some were dressed down and that was okay too

Stopped in while running errands in the area. We got a few different items and they were all really well flavored and the price was on point. We waited just a few minutes but we're eating off hours, took our food to go but they have tables so you can eat inside on the go if you need to.Overall, a tasty little joint we wouldn't mind revisiting.

"wow! social media hype was spot on for this place! i saw this restaurant on someone's review on instagram and had to check it outfood:-broasted chicken is their most famous item and it definitely they did not disappoint . super crunchy and juicy. there's 3 ways to get this: regular, kickd (spicy) and greek. we opted for the green with the sauce in the side and the sauce is amazing. can't wait to try the kickd.-gyros plate. i'm a big fan of gyros from charcoal flame in morton grove so i was ready to be disappointed but it was delicious. super flavorful, not greasy, and comes with warm delicious fluffy pitas -not spicy feta was so perfect. just the perfect appetizer with the fluffy pitasservice: super friendly upon walking in. i ordered online ahead of time because it says to give them 20 min for the broasted chicken. they quickly adjusted the order for dine in with no hassle. definitely raving about this place to everyone and can't wait to be back"
"I wanted to walk to this nearby Greek restaurant but couldn't because there are no damn sidewalks in this town. So, I had to order delivery. Anyway, the food came remarkably fast and hot. The menu contains real Greek options that I don't normally see - avgolemono soup is standard with most entrees. I ordered the spinach pie (spanakopita) which was a large piece of pie and very filling with a flaky filo crust and slightly bitter combination of spinach and cheese filling. Delicious. I also ordered the large Athena salad which was way too much to eat. The salad came with a fabulous chewy bread that was addictive. The Greek dressing was strong and good. I felt the salad could have used some onions and less iceberg lettuce. My daughter had the gyro platter which came with French fries and the avgolemono soup. The gyro was deconstructed and delicious. Portions were generous (huge) sharable. The potatoes were freshly hand cut. The avgolemono soup was silky, tangy, thick and probably the best I've ever had. Food was put together very quickly...fast service. Next time I hope to make it to the restaurant in person because he food is delicious."
"Consistently good and delicious. In such a competitive industry, they continue to deliver amazing food at a reasonable price point. The staff are friendly and attentive and makes you feel like a true local small business. The dining area is family like and the majority of the time I've been there, the ambiance is quiet and peaceful."
"I've been coming to Central Gyros ever since I was a little kid - how have I not reviewed this place yet?!?!Central Gyros is by far my favorite Greek restaurant. This restaurant is incredibly humble, down-to-earth, spacious, and extremely delicious. They have a die hard staff that has been for years. The service here is spectacular - they're so hard working and they know their menu off the back of their hands. I also found out they have new owners now during my most recent visit a few days ago; I've always loved the staff here! The food is where the gold's at. This Greek food is GOOOOOD. I highly recommend their chicken shish kabob plate that comes with rice, potatoes, and a soup. Their avgolemono soup is the best in the area. I squeeze extra lemon in it to make it more sour. Their gyros are to die for and their Greek salad is light and refreshing. Their fries are very thick and potatoey, too - my family absolutely loves the fries. The complimentary seeded bread is endless and yummy. They also have the best Greek potatoes I've ever had at any Greek place. It's all reasonably priced, as well. Overall, if you're looking for a delicious, down-to-earth spot for some Greek food, you've found it!"
"We've finally found our go to Greek place in Lincoln park. There's plenty of street parking outside. The footprint is a decent size and they also have some outside tables. The decor is really nicely done and the open window concept makes it lively and you get a little hustle and bustle of Lincoln park. The staff are really sweet and helpful everytime we've come There are plenty of vegetarian options. The Greek salad is fresh and perfect for these summer days. The Greek fries with the fire sauce on the side are delicious. The spanakopita was perfectly flaky and the feta spinach filling was warm and melty. We've also tried the zucchini wrap which is a really good size and super tasty. The staff are really friendly and prices are well worth it. I highly recommend"
"Haven't been here for years but food was good .. service okay ..I'd go back for sure .."
"Imagine a big, honkin' piece of meat. It rotates slowly on a spit, with a heating element or a flame behind it. You order a gyro, and a guy with a knife or shaving machine buzzes off a little bit. That delicious, roasted, savory steak or whatnot goes right into your gyro. Add some veggies and feta, and allow me to welcome you to heaven. Now imagine you are shopping at Aldi. Sometimes in their frozen department, they have something called a gyro. It's alright; for frozen food, it's very passable. The meat is heavily processed, but what would you expect?I can tell you for sure when I go to Greektown, and I eat at a place called "Mr. Greek," I expect the former, not the latter. They did have some kind of meat roasting on the spit mentioned earlier. However, when I got my order (#1 combo - gyro w/ fries and medium drink), they might as well have gotten that garbage at Aldi. This was the same warm (read: not hot), heavily processed, over-salted junk. The pita and sauce were fine, though the onions and tomatoes seemed to be thrown on as an afterthought. The fries were hot, fresh, and cooked nicely but had no seasoning (salt packets are available)."
"This is one of the more affordable spots in Greektown serving up good portions and pretty solid Greek fast food. When you walk in, the menu is up on the wall and you order at the counter. They call out your order a few minutes later and it comes in a takeout container and bag, though you can also choose to eat inside if you want. The staff are nice and the inside ambience is very casual and clean kept. I ordered the Pork Shish Kabob Plate, which came with 3 pork skewers, rice (you can choose fries or rice), and a Greek salad. It was a great value-- for the price (~$13 total), the portions are large and satisfying. The food was flavorful, though not outstanding. The pork was overcooked and dry, and the pita was well-toasted but tasted a little stale. The salad was fresh and tasty though, and the rice was quite fragrant and flavorful. Overall, I would recommend this place for a super quick, casual, affordable spot if you're craving a truly filling portion of Greek food. Also BTW: they do take credit/debit card, unlike the neighboring Mr. Greek Gyros, with a 3% surcharge."
"What a beautiful spot for brunch at Avli on the Park. Delicious brunch items, many with aroma rich Greek flavors. Refreshing bottomless mimosas and views from the rooftop. The servers are pretty fast and attentive, too. Check out the decor inside and outside. I would love to return at night, as I bet the views are equally nice. It's a short walk over through to Millenium Park."
"Super simple menu, and reasonably priced. This is a great spot to pop in for dinner or lunch (its BYOB too which is great). Everything was super freshStaff was incredibly friendly and had a very family owned vibe feel."
"Pre-meal: Reservations suggested.Room: We ate outside in the spare but nice sidewalk outdoor space. The inside looks clean and modernish.Picture-taking: Outside is no problem when sun is out (duh). Inside there is plenty of natural light.Beverages: Nice cocktails, mocktails and mostly Greek wines. My "Trellis" cocktail - their take on a Greek-style Manhattan/Sazerac - was properly boozy and well balanced.Menu: Pretty standard Greek fare.Food: Generally well-prepared. Saganaki (flaming cheese) was came with fig compote (nice touch) but was not flamed tableside (why not?). Apart from the lack of a show, it was quite tasty. Lamb chops were smallish and a slightly overcooked but were still very good. The lamb moussaka and roasted chicken were very good too. Chicken souvlaki came without pita - hmm. Don't get the broccoli - it's silly for $8. The baklava is really good.Service: Good.Price: Moderate.Value: Good.Summary: Very good Greek food in upscale surroundings."
"This place is great as the food is fresh, delicious, and economical and they are quick and the place is kept clean. They have a good sized patio if that's your preferred seating also. It's no surprise that this place was quite busy already at about 5:30pm on a Sunday evening. The other big plus for them is they sell beer and wine along with their extensive grill house menu. Our party of 6 enjoyed a couple of kids' cheeseburger meals, a cheese beef sandwich, a bifteki (ground lamb/beef) sandwich, a salmon sandwich, a bowl of lentil soup, and a hummus plate. Great place for a casual meal, and yum, will be back!"
"I hate to even write this, as the staff was so incredibly kind and patient with the large group I came in with, but the food just wasn't good at all. I ordered the falafel and hummus + pita, and it was so bad, I had to throw it out even though I was really hungry. The falafel was so dry, I couldn't even swallow it, and the hummus was a very odd texture and lacking in taste. This place was PACKED, so I can only assume their other menu options taste better, or everyone here has lost their tastebuds. Hard pass for me."
"This place is a 10! The ambiance is chill with a fantastic covered patio to boot! For lunch we all order the lunch specials which have multiple options and are quite tasty. The staff are pros and they help us make nice choices. Dinners are amazing! Make sure you have reservations though because it's a popular locals spot."
"Super friendly place with Jeopardy! playing on the TV in the back - nice change from sports (says me, not sure how many would agree). The fries are notably good here, and the dog is quintessential Chicago. It's a little pricier than some joints, but it's also more comfortable. I'm pretty much never going to complain about a great Chicago dog purveyor even if there isn't much to say about the dog because there isn't much variation. And there shouldn't be. Do a Chicago dog right, you have my business."
"Deluge, excellent fresh food made to order. Nice family run restaurant. Perfection on the warmed golden pitas make sauces, nice selection of sodas. I like that the ketchup bottles are clean and not coated with grease. Excellent menu. Ample basket of crispy fries."
"Returned after 4 years ago. There entrance is in the back of the building now. We met our friends there and they were sitting in the back to me, which almost seems like a hallway, so sat at high top table for four. Right near the door. We started with an appetizer of the Greek fries. Wow they were delicious hot fries with the wonderful seasoning, lemon and feta cheese. I could've ate that for a meal. It was delicious. I ordered the calamari appetizer which the flavoring was good. It came with pepperoncini lemons the flavor was great but I think with the veg it lost its crispness . Octopus appetizer was good almost minced very tender seasoned with lemons I ordered the avgolemeno . Beautiful presentation gigantic portion but didn't care for it. Tasted like the puff from the lemon was in it and didn't card for it. They were kind enough to take it off our bill. The Grecian chicken was fantastic so tender and succulent with cloves of garlic and crispy potato chunks that were very tender on the inside sitting in this incredible lemon sauce. Our friends had gyros and salmon special. They finished with a bread pudding . The food is outstanding I have to come back here and try the brunch."
"BYG has prepared quite a few meals for us over the years and they've always been dependable, reliable and with good quality. They have a quite extensive menu but I'll usually choose one of their salads or a burger. This recent visit I had a burger which was perfectly cooked and waffle fries which were crisp and tasty. My companion had the spaghetti and meatballs which, though not pretty, was good with a garlicky sauce. I've cut down on my pasta consumption but it smelled really tempting. Nothing fancy here, just good food in generous portions."
"Surprisingly good! I have gone to a bunch of places like this, but I will say that this one has probably the most unique dishes and all of them fresh. I like the Francheezie which isn't very common in other places. Its cheese, bacon, and a hot dog. Its a heartattack, but good! My nephews got chicken fingers which were pretty large and everything came with fries. You can't go wrong. They also have a sizable seating area with plenty of space for larger areas. Theres millions of places like this in the area and across Chicagoland, but this is the best of them all! I will be stopping by again!"
"We order a gyro plate and a gyro sandwich. Everything is made to order when you arrive. They are friendly and ready to make your wait satisfying. The gyro plate had enough meat on it to make two or three gyro sandwiches. As you can see from the pictures, the store was empty. The walls are full classic signs representing Chicago history."
"I can always count on Hub's!This place always warrants at least 1 visit during a Chicago visit - I always get their Gyros Plate, extra well-done, which comes with a big buttered pita bread, fries, sliced tomatoes, extra onions, and their chunky tzatziki sauce. Make sure you don't sleep on their rice pilaf, as this is one of the best that I've tasted - so good, and adds as a yummy side to your entree.Their gyro meat is sliced well, crispy, and tasty!Service is always great, welcoming and friendly!Plenty of tables and booths inside, and there's a private lot to park your vehicle.+Gyros Plate+rice pilaf+friendly service+family-owned+small lot"
"I love coming to Squabs for lunch. The food is extremely tasty and the service is friendly. The dinner plates are big enough to take half of your order Togo and eat later. My favorite plate is the chicken breast dinner or the chicken kabob which are always marinated/seasoned to perfection. The menu has a lot of variety so there's something for everyone. Unfortunately they serve their plates with plastic utensils so cutting up the food is sometimes a bit of a chore."
"Great place great food and great service. Try the Philly and thank me later with some Greek fries."
