4th Street, Bridgeport, PA, sits just off the south bank of the Schuykill River in the shadow of the much larger Norristown. Over the years it has been gradually transformed from a worn out backwater area, into a zone where small businesses flourish, including a few exceptional commercial kitchens. The cafe that takes its name from this byway, the 4th Street Cafe, happens to be a great place to grab breakfast or lunch if you're in the area. Walking in it feels like entering a time warp where everything is stuck in the late 20th Century. Small 5 stool lunch counter, high ceilings with antique knickknacks (at least 2 Betty Boops), Formica tabletops and tubular stainless chairs, and open kitchen where the short order cooks do their best to prepare popular morning and afternoon fare. It just felt very cozy sitting by the large plate glass windows watching the world pass by. Ordered coffee to swill with the Veggie Omelet, Potato Cakes and Rye Toast, served by a lovely smiling woman, who inquired about my further needs and promptly delivered Cholula Hot Sauce upon request. A few red shakes and I had the extra heat I craved. Everything was excellent. The omelet was moist within with plenty of spinach, onion, green/red pepper, tomato and melted provolone. The potato cakes were a good change of pace from the traditional home fries/hash browns, and reminded of chubby latkes with a little onion/garlic mixed in for pleasant flavor. The rye toast was a crisp bite with just enough melted butter. Really enjoyed the meal and dated ambiance. Wouldn't hesitate to stop in again.

Awesome food and great prices. Service is real good but don't go when you don't have the time for patience because this place is hopping. There's seating out and inside. Clean restaurant and everyone is happy so you shouldn't be disappointed.

What a find and close to the Proving Grounds soccer fields! When you walk in you are given a number and just wait in line until you are called. We were a party of six and were seated on a busy Saturday within about 15 minutes. Food was good. Be careful of quantity...you might have left overs! So good first and second time around. Love the inside, too! Good service, food, and place. We will be back based on the location, service, and delicious food options. There were several things on the menu that we want to go back and find.

Would you consider having some vegan or vegetarian options? It would be nice for us to enjoy your atmosphere also.

Fun place to eat, best french toast sticks ever, big portions, great service and nice atmosphere. I didn't like the hash browns as they weren't crispy, but everything else was great. Cute, clean, great service and food!

Surprised I almost missed this spot. Definitely would recommend taking a trip here, though it's not cafe as in a collection of coffee drinks. They serve lots of breakfast options and have both indoor and outdoor seating. You are asked to seat yourself, so grab an open table if you see one. If they're busy, they'll try to help you call dibs on one being cleaned up. The menu is huge, I mean like physically a large rectangle. The prices are super reasonable and I'm very thankful for that. The waitress was patient and checked in on me. I got the peach pancakes. I was confused what "folded" mean, but what happens is you get two pancakes folded in half, and in the center is the jam. I don't know what is in their pancakes but they were hitting different. Whip cream also optional. It doesn't look like much but it's definitely a treat. More than enough for one person. On weekend around brunch, they were pretty busy. The wait wasn't too long but it's definitely loud in there and they play music. But it's a very nice hometown feel that makes me feel welcome. There's street parking but there's plenty of free parking in the back, I had no trouble finding a spot.

It's the type of place you would develop a loyalty to once you've been tried. Every aspect is perfect--service, food, vibe, price and hygiene. It just makes you happy once you're inside. I fell in love with it when they were in the old location and I'm still in love with this place.

A really great breakfast place. The food is great and very reasonable. The staff is great too. Very speedy service and food comes back very quickly. Probably the prettiest fried eggs I've ever seen and crispy delicious bacon. I'm glad I'm only a half block away.

We went here for breakfast once and if you get a table (first come first serve) and actually get service it's a typical breakfast place but the food takes FOREVER, service is crap, the man inside that runs the place (not sure if it's the manager or owner idc) is RUDE to his employees especially bus boys in front of everyone. And don't ever order take out. They'll tell you 15 minutes and 45 minutes will pass like nothing to it. I made them void our order and we walked out. If you can't handle the amount of people & take out orders then TURN PEOPLE AWAY. They don't even apologize/care for wasting your time and just move on to the next. Don't recommend.
