Tuong Ky Com Tam

It was hard to find. The picture I found showed the location as Dakao plaza - wrong. It's by Lee's Sandwich across from HK Mall. Ordered com tam (grilled pork instead of pork chop), shredded pork, egg cake, pickled veggies. Also picked up a combo fried rice (shrimp, bbq pork, sausage) for my brother. Com tam - the pickled veggies were nicely done. The grilled pork was ok. A little dry. The shredded pork was standard. The egg cake was nice. The nuoc nam was nicely made as well. Not overdone. Pricing wise, it's a bit on the high end. Think it was like $10.95.It was about 5 pm on a Wednesday so relatively quiet. They had a few to go order pickups while I was there. The guy that took my order was nice and helpful. There was another staff, maybe a manager or owner who took the money, who didn't get off his phone the whole time he serviced me or after. I don't expect 5 star service but I found that a bit rude. (Based off the convo, it seemed to be a personal call)Not against trying it again. The menu is a bit limited (IMO) but still worth a try.

Hieu tieu was good! Portion was small, but very flavorful! The com tam was averaging but consistent and fair price!! Always good service and quick to come out!

We got the banh bot chien and com tam 6 mon and it was absolutely delicious. Great value and quality. 10/10. No problems with service and the ambience was casual and clean.

It was my first time here. The place is hidden gem in the corner of the same shopping strip as Lee Sandwiches on Bellaire. To be honest I probably would not eaten here if my sister didn't suggest it. My sister and I were greeted right away and seated. I really appreciate that this place was clean and they actually had the AC on!! That right there is 2 stars automatically for ANY Asian restaurants on Bellaire!! The food was really good. I ordered 2 appetizers because I wanted to try both. Banh bot chien was crispy and not greasy but I think it needed more eggs and radish/green onion toppings like Tan Tan. The dipping sauce was ok, maybe more of the darker sauce in it then the red vinegar. The Vietnamese egg rolls were delicious but for the size and amount they were a little pricey. 6 small egg rolls for $8.50 (Especially being on Bellaire). The com tam was tasty and everything had flavor. The thit nuong actually had finely mince lemongrass in the marinade. I like the flavor it gives bbq meats. Thit nuong is supposed to be marinated with lemon grass. That's how my mama made it so it is the way I grew up eating thit nuong and pork chops. The pork chop & thit nuong were tasty & not over cooked. I thought the meat would be tough and dry but it was surprisingly tender. The tofu shrimp thing was good since it was NOT drenched in grease since it is fried. Everything on my 6 item plate was seasoned well and tasty. I enjoyed my rice plate. The chicken rice plate my daughter had was tasty too! The meat was flavorful and NOT dry/over cooked. They do give complimentary plain small bowl of broth like they should with the rice plates. Great food at a CLEAN restaurant with good service. The fish sauce was good. My sister wanted the Me Den dessert but the waiter said they were out. I will definitely be back again. If you are craving com tam come try it out here!

One of my favorites for traditional rice dishes! The place is relaxing for a family outing or a quick meal. Staff was attentive and the portions is very filling for the price. I definitely recommend this place!

Hidden gem for broken rice. Hubs and I both ordered something different and loved it. Some of my pet peeves are: flavorful, not watered down fish sauce, marinated meat, oily sautéed green onions on the rice. You can't have a com tam without those. Faves: Shredded pork Egg meat soufflé I need to go back and try more.

Not that great comparing to Orange County, CA. Portions were small, the meat was like just marinated no flavor. The pho was like water as the soup base. Customer service was good that is about ot.

One of my FAVORITE SPOTS EVER to get com tam. I like getting the combo bc I get a lil bit of everything. They serve it with a bowl of soup on the side, and it's just perfect. The coating on the shrimp cake is so crispy and light. The pork chop is flavorful and tender. Everything else is delightful as well. I always walk out of there happy and full. Business seems to be kind of slow every time I go- I only see like a few customers stop by when I'm dining in. Service is quick and employees are friendly. No issues with parking. I highly recommend checking this place out and giving them the recognition they deserve!!!

Tuong Ky is a solid spot for rice platters and other Vietnamese dishes. I've enjoyed the food though oftentimes the service can be improved.- Bot chien or pan fried rice cake (3/5): comes with egg and sour soy sauce. The portion is very similar to other places. The rice cakes weren't very crispy and the sauce wasn't very spectacular. Overall it's on point but nothing to write home about- Com tam 6 Mon or rice platter combo (4.5/5): portion is a tad small for the price, but you get everything (and a small soup)!! I especially love the shrimp patty and egg cake. The fish sauce is also amazing! Highly recommended.- Com chien Duong Chau or Yuan Chow fried rice (3/5): just what you'd expect. Portion is smaller than other places and there's nothing "wow" about it. The interior has the LED light strip on all the time in the bright blue hue, which wasn't very pleasing to the eyes. Other than that, the place is fairly clean.

This is my second time attending this restaurant. The first time I went, the food was great. However, when I received the same order today, the food was not good. The beef was weirdly sour. I ate one piece and had to throw away the rest of my dish. I am upset and most likely will not be back.
