Machine Shop is the literal definition of a hidden gem. I only recently came to know about it despite living in Philly for 8+ years. It lived up to the hype and much more. Being situated in the Bok building, their space is very open, airy, huge ceilings, and industrial style. The guy behind the counter was friendly and had a big smile for all of the customers. I chose a chocolate cake, blueberry tart and a savory tomato pastry. The chocolate cake is like a mousse cake and pretty much the best chocolate dessert I have ever had! The blueberry tart was delicious, even with the mini size, they didn't skimp on the fruits. The base was crumbly yet firm and so buttery. The savory pastry was flaky and delicate and by the time we went to get a second round, it was already sold out. Someone suggested getting coffee from Two Persons cafe next door - which is what we did as well. Amazing pastries, lots of plants and a friendly staff makes this place feel so welcoming! Machine Shop is definitely number 1 on my Philly bakery list.

While this is a bit further from our house than other VERY tasty bakeries (Essen, Kouklet, Mighty Bread), it's worth the trek because 1) we can bring our dog and dine in 2) their pastries are unmatched. If you're a fatty, you should get 2 pastries each (like my partner and I do), but if you're not super hungry, one should do the trick. The jammy egg one is a fan fav and so is their (twice baked) almond or chocolate croissant AND their onion danish (all pictured below). We try to switch it up but keep reverting to these four staples. We haven't tried their bread, cakes/tarts or cookies yet, but we plan on it soon (if we can ever stop ordering these pastries). Stay tuned.

The most excellent pastries I have had in a while (of all time?) and the space the bakery sits in itself is almost as impressive as the bakes they're serving.

If I lived in Philly, Machine Shop would def be my regular spot. The quality and options resonate with Radio Bakery in NYC and I love them both! *Cara Cara Croissant ***I was sent to heaven at first bite. This orange cream croissant was dangerously delicious. It was generously stuffed (yes, fully stuffed!) with light whipped cream and bits of candied orange. Chef's kiss. *Mushroom Danish**I always prefer savory pastries so this one was right up my alley. Loved the golden twist they made. It balanced the buttery aroma from the pastry and savory umami from the mushroom filling.*Double Pain au ChocolatSoooo flaky! I seldom get pain au chocolate. Here they might have used dark chocolate so it was on the bitter side, which made me in love with it. *Orange Cardamom Morning BunWe were surprised by how flaky it was even we ate it on the next morning. A pity that we could taste neither orange nor cardamom flavor. It just tasted straight up like a regular morning bun.*LatteWe got the coffee at Two Persons Coffee next door. They are neighbors at Bok Building so you can enjoy their drinks with Machine Shop's pastries.

Food: By far, the best pastries in the city! There are very few pastry shops that get me to try something new every single time and Machine Shop is one of those select few. You can't really go wrong with anything here, but my absolute favorite is the morning bun, which is so light while being crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. And don't miss out on the squash blossom, which tastes like fall perfection. Service: Always quick despite there being a line. Staff is happy to make suggestions or answer questions and are friendly. Ambiance: Nice, sunny, lively indoor area for relax and eat your pasties or do some work. It can get a bit loud because it's located at the bottom of Bok Bar and there are other coffee shops and restaurants in the same space. But that's also the fun of it! Would I go back? In case the number of photos of pastries I have in this review haven't made it real, I have been back and would love to back every day if I could.

At Machine Shop, you'll find lots of different pastries to try. The staff is super friendly and told us stories about where one pastry came from. The location is really cool because it used to be a school, and now it's full of stores. They even have a rooftop bar where you can see the city! My friends and I had an extreme amount of fun eating our pastries and enjoying the rooftop. I'll definitely be back to this place again.

Quite possibly the best thing I've had in Philadelphia. The feta jammy egg pastry blew my mind - could have had 3. The olive zaatar loaf was so good. The rhubarb tart was like a work of art - so light and custardy. I do not believe you can go wrong here. Go!!!

We came across this shop on tik tok and immediately within 5 minutes of watching we were heading over to try it out. When we got there it was a little confusing to find the entrance, but we followed the direction that many people were carrying a bag with the name on it.When we walked in we were not expecting how cute the inside was! There were a bunch of different shops and restaurants that you could go to. We walked over to the machine shop where there was a line and a lot of people sitting around. They were running low on items as we went later on a Sunday, but we got a croissant, an almond croissant and a beget. We were shocked at the reasonable prices! Once we got back to the car we couldn't wait to indulge right into the croissants. Both were so light and airy, very delicious. The beget we ended up using for sandwiches for the week. Everything was outstanding and we can't wait to go back to try more!
