I've lived in the neighborhood for two years and I fully admit that I was kind of scared to go in this place because it looks shady af from the outside. I've gotten food poisoning before From bad seafood, so it's something I get anxious about. However, I really wish I'd gone in there sooner, because the food was surprisingly good and inexpensive. I have included a picture so you can see the massive amount of food that I got for less than $13. What made me finally decide to trust it was that when I walked in, despite a place that is known for seafood and had seafood ready for the fryer out in a refrigeration case, there was absolutely no fishy smell.. Fryer smell, yes, but the oil smelled Fresh and not old. The employees were responsive and friendly. The fries were fairly unremarkable; not bad, but nothing to rent home about either. The fish, chicken, and shrimp all had a very nice cornmeal breading that made them crispy. everything tasted very fresh. The fish and chicken were moist, but surprisingly my favorite were the shrimp, which were very sweet and fresh! Most importantly, unlike most of the other places I've found around, it was not oversalted. The breading was already lightly seasoned, but they give you the open container before they pack it up so you can add your own salt, ketchup, hot sauce, whatever else you want. The place isn't gonna win any James Beard awards or anything, it certainly isn't fine dining. But when you want a big pile of fried stuff, this Hyon's is a great option. I'm glad to have it in the neighborhood.

I'll say Hyon's is an experience .... it's not hipster, it's not trendy, its not tastefully decorated ... it's just a local legendary fast food take out restaurant thats been in the neighborhood for many many many many years. Hyons sells EVERYTHING your nutritionist / doctor tells you NOT to eat ... they are known for their unnaturally large, perfectly breaded , perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried chicken wings (they are usually ordered with salt, pepper, ketchup and hot sauce ) They are super messy to eat but ohhhhh so darned good. The fries (usually ordered with salt , pepper and ketchup) are the perfect accompaniment ... if you're going to cheat you might as well go all out. It's no need to have a glass of water at this point sooooo I'll usually treat myself to a Tahitian Treat Fruit Punch Soda. Without fail I always feel guilty after a Hyons meal, I can never look my husband, my nutritionist or my doctor in the face after my obvious violation(s), they are trying so hard to show me the benefits of a clean diet but every once in a while I just have to "go rogue"

Sometimes you want to treat yourself to greasy food. If I could only figure out their fry batter. Never disappoints. The staff have been there for years and give you good service. I like that they take cards now. Treat yourself

horrible customer service. Poor professionalism by owners .They think because they are in a low income neighborhood they can give out substandard service with no kick back. They will not even allow patrons from the community to place telephone orders for wings which is what they are known for. They argue with patrons as if patrons do not keep the business alive. THEY ARE DISRESPECTFUL AND IGNORANT.I wonder when was the last time they had a health inspection

To be fair, I haven't tried any of the other similar establishments in the area; there seems to be a wealth of fried food around these parts. It's cheap, it's quick, it's fried hard. My husband and I had a platter with chicken wings, fried shrimp, scallops and a "fish chip." The scallops were actually appropriately shaped "krab" "meat" balls but everything else was OK for what it was. I don't see myself ever eating here again but everyone around loves it so they must be doing something right. Solid 3 stars.

Hyon's is definitely not what it used to be. The wings were disgusting. My children eat and love wings. They despised these wings. We threw them away.

The food is really good. But they way the Chinese girl (OWNER) talks to the workers are horrible! I do not like that at all! She need to work on her people skills! Or just give the business back to her father! But i really don't like going in there because of the way she treats the workers. Smh. Good food but bad attitude!
