"Came here on Valentine's Day to grab a quick dinner. This is in a shopping center so there's plenty of parking. We wanted to do take out, but we kept calling for over 20 mins and we couldn't get through so we decided to just go in. It was crazy busy for take out orders and they were running over 20-30 mins behind. We were seated right away, but our appetizer did take over 45 mins to be served and our rolls took over an hour. The servers were nice and I was trying to be understanding that they were running behind and already had some really rude customers that had screamed at them. Chicken Karaage - 5/5 - the chicken was good and crispy when it came out and I really enjoyed the dipping sauce.Philadelphia Roll - 4/5 - the portions were pretty big considered to other placesCalifornia Deluxe Roll - 4/5 - pretty basic #1 Roll - 4/5 - it had a lot of flavor and tasted really fresh."

"I love sushi, but it's expensive, so I don't go out often to enjoy it. We arrived here about thirty minutes before they closed. The restaurant was empty, so we were seated right away. As with many sushi restaurants, the menu was extensive and it was difficult to decide what to get. We settled on the spicy salmon roll, Rainbow roll, and soft shell crab appetizer - nothing fancy.They brought out some complimentary miso soup and it was too salty to finish, so we took a few sips and set it aside. They brought out the spicy salmon roll and rainbow roll before the appetizer, which I guess was ok, but I would have preferred it the other way around. Anyway, the fish was mediocre - nothing special or memorable. It got the job done. The soft-shell crab appetizer was overcooked. They must have fried it for too long to the point where the crab was chewy. This appetizer was so greasy it was difficult to finish. They made no secret that they were in a rush to close the restaurant, giving me my check and reminding me they were closing the doors in five minutes. This is my second time to this restaurant, and I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to come back unless I was in the area and they were one of the only places open. Like I said, the food wasn't bad, but it also didn't taste that fresh either compared to other sushi restaurants I've been to across the Bay Area. Quality was right in the middle. I would recommend people try this place, but certainly don't go out of your way for it."

I like that it's near lake Merritt and in a walking area so u can take a nice walk after eating so much sushi instead of just exiting into a parking lot and getting in your car. However, I hesitated to visit, assuming the vegetarian options would be limited--especially since their website only listed one. But I'm glad we finally gave it a try because I couldn't have been more wrong!The food was flavorful, and there were several vegetarian options to choose from. I started with the Cheese Corn, a skillet of sweet corn topped with a generous amount of melted cheese. It was rich and slightly sweet, but a dash of salt and pepper balanced the flavors nicely.Next, I tried the Potato Croquette with Curry Sauce, served on a sizzling plate with croquettes, rice, and vegetables. The curry was wonderfully spiced and truly elevated the dish. Adding some of their signature sauces took it to the next level.We also ordered the Cucumber Salad, which was refreshing and came with a tangy plum sauce (instead of the usual fish sauce). Other vegetarian items on the menu included Tofu with Curry and Tofu Pepper Rice, both of which I plan to try next time.One thing worth noting is that their website isn't up-to-date, as it doesn't reflect the variety of vegetarian dishes available. The service was exceptional. The staff patiently answered all my questions, walked us through the menu, and ensured we had a great first visit.With delicious food and such attentive service, we'll definitely be returning to Sizzling Lunch!"

And we split a Spicy Tuna and Spider roll.Started with Miso soup and green salad. I think it's pretty hard to screw up miso soup. And salad was a salad. My tonkatsu was very moist and came with a small container of tonkatsu sauce on the side with 3 slices of Takuan (pickled daikon). Tonkatsu also came with a small bowl of rice. My son's sashimi looked fresh. A good amount of 4 types of fish (Saba, Ahi, Sake, and Hamachi). The spicy tuna roll was 6 pieces. And I think the spider roll had 5 pieces. Little smaller portions than at other places but tasty. Service was good. Servers are always very nice and courteous. Food came out promptly. Was kinda surprised that my Tonkatsu came out before my son's sashimi dinner."

The staff is so accommodating and friendly, the interior inviting, but the outdoor area..unlike any other sushi spot in the East Bay with fun art, instagrammable backdrops, and just a cool essence. Well done!The menu is massive ~ we ordered the Kakiage Tempura and Bento Boxes for an afternoon lunch and omg what a deal! You can choose 2 or 3 items, so naturally we chose 3 ~ the avocado roll, teriyaki chicken, and pork gyoza accompanied by miso soup, edamame, and rice. Add a salad for a couple bucks if you're dining in! The Kakiage Tempura is so unique, crispy, and one of the most delicious appetizers in the East Bay..I said it! Delicate fried squares of shrimp, sweet potato, yellow onion, shitake and other root veggies combined into one bite. Glorious! And the value of what you can get in the bento box has me coming back for more. I only did the avocado roll this time, but can't wait to try more of their specialty rolls soon. Delicious and clean pieces of teriyaki meat, and super yummy gyoza, not too greasy at all. If you're in the area, coming from an appointment, or looking for a unique yet vibrant change to your typical sushi experience, Judoku hits the mark every time."

The staff grabbed my bag and politely handed it to me, a simple and smooth process.I really enjoyed the baked lobster roll, with shrimp and crab meat and a lobster mix (large flavorful chunks), and a nice kick from the spicy mayo. It was so delicious, and a decent size for a meal. Wow, I sometimes feel like all sushi spots are fairly the same, but this one stood out to me with the quality and taste. The bento came with miso soup which was at room temperature. Not even warm or have any steam coming from the bowl. The rainbow roll was good but the slicing was weird. You can tell that their knife may not be sharp enough. The Sukiyaki was on the sweet side. They forgot to include the fish cake and tofu as stated on the menu but no biggie. The bento was what really pisses me off. The tempura that came with the bento was 90% breading. Barely any shrimp. The batter was also very thick and looked different from the picture. Other than that service was nice. They refilled our water and tea frequently."

Maybe it looked extra generous because it was takeout and therefore given in 3 separate boxes. Still, it felt like a lot of food. Lots of chicken, big scoop of rice, and a salad in one box. 6 pcs tempura (4 veggie, 2 shrimp) in the next. And 3 pcs gyoza in the last box. Flavor wise, it was prob as good as any other sushi spot. I've had better crispier tempura at other places. The gyoza filling was tasty, though I'll say the sauce it came with didn't add much. Overall, though, still a good meal."

We were there for almost three hours, and never felt rushed.The meal started with some pickled items that opened my palate. Up first was the "mini" chirashi bowl. It was loaded with a wide variety of fish and seafood (including a whole prawn and some octopus). For $21, methinks you might wanna check it out.Two grilled skewers, one rib-eye and one duck+leeks (kamo negi). I rarely eat duck (as I would be eating alone; like poor, neglected lamb, so few of my companions join me in exploring menus as they refuse to deviate from the beef-chicken-prawn trichotomy) but dang this was a great way to enjoy duck. The leeks added color, texture, and tons of flavor.The veritable coup de grâce was the salmon collar or "samonkara." STARS (stand out qualities)-customer service was one of the biggest stars. the owner-couple were so warm, responsive and helpful-local business owned by people of color -food was good quality AND quantity-food came out freshly made and hot -food presentation was nice -owners gave extra for certain banchan since we ate it quickly-reusable eatingware -beautiful interior dining area with booths and tables/chairs-clean bathroom -plenty of parking STAIRS (areas of growth)-recommend compostable or biodegradable large takeout boxes (they did have small compostable ones) -prices feel high to me but I think they are competitive Bay Area prices. Worth the price for all the stars above TIPS-prepare for cash payment if you want discounted prices-I recommend the Chive Seafood Jeon and Ddeokbokki and which was very flavorful and packed with good ingredients -bring friends, family and coworkers!
