"I would give it 5 stars but the lady behind the counter wasn't the nicest. With that being said the food was outstanding. I ordered the large oxtail. I've had it at a soul food restaurant where I live and it was good, but this was the bomb. I ordered the large and while I didn't think it would be enough, I was wrong. Along with the rice and beans with gravy totally awesome. The salad on the side helped to cleanse the pallet until I pushed it into the wonderful tasting gravy. All I all a great meal."
"I couldn't find soup joumou anywhere, so I searched 'Haitian food' on yelp & found this gem. The ladies behind the counter were super busy, but there still wasn't a long wait, & everyone was polite & upbeat. My soup joumou was amazing. It was thick & flavorful. It was loaded with vegetables, & the portions were huge. This is definitely a place to try for authentic Haitian food."

"For years I have been going to another Haitian spot just down the road, but since it wasn't open I ended up trying this place.A friend and I came in about 10 minutes before close but the woman at the counter kindly took our order and let us eat there after close. I ended up getting the griot which was phenomenal along with their pikliz and oxtail gravy. All were exactly what I would expect from a great Haitian restaurant.Great service and great food, will definitely return."
"If Bolay went to Jamaica and had a love child, it would be Jrk. Located in the Treat's Food Hall at Aventura Mall, Jrk offers a mixture of island cuisine in a bowl.It was pretty busy and noisy in the mall on a Saturday afternoon, but the line was moving steadily. All bowls include one base, one protein, three toppings, and a sauce. There's also patties, rum cakes, jerk mac & cheese, and cold beverages. Prices are moderate. After looking at the choices quickly, I decided to fill my bowl with rice & peas (base), BBQ chicken (protein), pineapple plantains, pineapple-mango salsa, and yuca sticks (toppings), with vinaigrette dressing on the side (sauce). I took the food home cause Aventura Mall is not a place I like to hang out at.Now that I'm comfortable at home I can proceed to give my views on the food:* Rice & peas - was cooked to soft consistency. Was delicious with a sweet flavor like it was cooked with coconut milk* BBQ chicken - was yummy. Tender cuts of chicken covered in a sweet BBQ sauce* Yuca fries - I like yuca, but never had them like this. Lightly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I could definitely eat more of this* Pineapple-mango salsa - the pineapple/mango mixture was very sweet and didn't have that tangy taste I'm accustomed of, but it was ok* Pineapple plantains - I don't know how they got these plantains to have a sweet pineapple flavor but it was real damn good!I thoroughly enjoyed the food and can see myself eating at Jrk again. I would prefer to eat at a location more closer to me though. I'm not always in the mood to drive all the way down to Aventura."
"Garden House is a good alternative to the different restaurant options in Miami Beach. It is not our favorite but we had a good time during our 4th of July stay. It's much smaller than it looks in photos. There is a small outdoor patio and and small indoor area. We opted to sit outside which is a lot cuter. I didn't like that the floors were all wet and it took a long time for service but other than that the food was great. We loved their seafood platter which was only about $30 which came with fish, shrimp, calamari, and fried plantains. It was delicious. When we came on 4th of July night it wasn't busy at all. However I hear it gets pretty busy during the weekends so reservations is recommend since its smaller. We always just park in the nearby parking structure."
"The ox tail and brown stew chicken are still the best I've ever had. I'm updating my review because I think the service has gotten better. Or perhaps I'm simply more patient. I'm still going to order from here, regardless, because the food is just that good."
"I went on a Wednesday for lunch. The restaurant was empty. I ordered at the counter and my food was ready in less than 10 minutes. It is served in To-go containers. I had the brown chicken stew lunch special for $7. They charge 50 cents for a cup of faucet water. They only gave me a plastic fork. A knife would have been nice. The chicken was tender and flavorful. It was served with cabbage, rice and beans, and plantains. Overall, it was good food. It's inside dining only, but everyone got carry out they I saw come in while I was there. The ladies restroom was locked while I was there. I used the men's restroom. It had no paper towels and the faucet was missing a handle. There is plenty of parking in the attached lot."
"have heard good things about this place for years from a friend so finally decided to check it out when i was in the plaza. when I walked in all the food looked extremely fresh and the place smelled great. Got a large saltfish with steamed cabbage. initially I was surprised at the price after purchasing but when i tasted the food.. it tasted great so it didn't bother me as much . One of the best salt fish ive ever had.. not too salty, well seasoned, not too oily or watery either.. and great flavor.... they also gave a decent amount....Overall id def come back esp to try the roti.. maybe next time ill get a small though lol."
"This was a perfect recommendation location outside of the usual Caribbean restaurants everyone ventured to. It's a family-owned and operated Guyanese-Chinese fusion restaurant which will now be added to my #SouthFloridaEats spots. Located in a strip mall, the food was prompt and tasty.... the music was pumping as it's also a sports bar Definitely check it out.E A T SFried Rice, Chow Mein, and Fried Chicken I could have eaten an entire plate of the #chowmein... sooooo good"
"Three and a half stars. The spicy was good. The lemon pepper dry was a little on the salty side. Not much lemon flavor to it.The spicy lemon pepper was just too much flavor in one combination."
"Authentic Jamaican food for great prices. I've never been to the actual location to be honest I have only ordered out from them. Every year at LEAST for one holiday we order from Jamaica Kitchen. We basically get the most food to enjoy everything this spot has to offer. I have tried everything and can easily tell you it taste authentic and taste amazing. Their patties are el fuego. I love them spicy but will eat them both mild and spicy. Beef and cheese patties omg. Melt in your mouth good. I've also had the oxtail and jerk chicken. So good. They have the best jerk chicken. It's spicy but not crazy spicy. Their fried rice and pigeon peas are also superb. Really great spot to grab food Jamaican food. Will be catering with them again very soon."

Small hole in the wall place serving Solid Caribbean/Jamaican food. On the Corner of Palm Avenue and Miramar Parkway, In the heart of the Caribbean Community in South Florida. Telling that there is a Golden Krust restaurant in the same strip mall and at least 3 to 4 more Caribbean restaurants within 3 miles. Went for lunch and for $8 got a huuuge serving of Jerk Chicken and dirty rice. Tasted very good, Fairly priced, friendly staff, and large portiions. I have to believe that all of the other Caribbean staples are just as good. 4 stars and a "Ya Mon".

THEY GET IT RIGHT EVERYTIME. Literally, everytime I leave from getting a wax, this is a must stop. Listen, I'm Haitian and this is the best I've had from a local restaurant. For years I've been searching for authentic Haitian food and this is it. I don't eat pork so I get the fried Turkey, beans and rice, plantain and extra pikliz. WHEWWWW AND THE PIKLIZ THEEEE ABSOLUTE BESt. It's a must I pay for extra everytime. The meat is tender, the plantains don't give me the hiccups like other restaurants and that rice!!!!! I'm not even a big rice eater, but hunnyyyy, for this rice, it gets ate up real quick!!

OMG! When I tell you this place is outstanding. We were actually going on a cruise, but decided to run to Aventura Mall real quick. I checked the mall's app on the way to the mall to review my food options. Nothing jumped out at me so I had to walk around to actually look at the food. Needless to say, when I saw the food at Jrk...immediately YES.The food did not disappoint. We were all more than pleased. I'm catching a flight in January, I'll be back.

This is a great restaurant. I would totally come back here but never alone. There is a bar call the bar idle about two doors down from this facility where it appears that there's drug sales going on or some kind of mischievous behavior. Several intimidating males hanging out in front of the door with a large vehicle and its doors open right across from the bar door. And then there was a gentleman that appeared to be a pretending to be a police officer with 3/4 of his face covered and his eyes showing in a fake police outfit. Made rude sexual comments to me as I walked by with my teenage son which I was thankful to have at my side. As far as the restaurant, the food was amazing. They had sweet and savory, plantains and ceviche. It was all delicious, but I would not walk here at night by myself.

Great location to pick up a decent plate of Jamaican food. I've tried different dishes and everything is always pretty good. Service is not great and a bit slow , but everything I've had here is good.

What I like about this place is that they don't put a bunch of sugar in their food. I've gone to quite a few Jamaican restaurants in my day and it seems that sugar is the new favorite ingredients in things that are supposed to be savory. Now I haven't tried the oxtail simply because that's usually the dish they love to include sugar and for the price tag, I don't want to be disappointed. Islands in the Pines has been a staple for me since moving to Broward. Their jerk chicken is actually jerk chicken. It isn't saucy and most of all it isn't sweet. It has a nice kick (it could use more) but compared to what I have had at places in pines, it is great. I also love festival. If you like that as well, make sure you come early because that is the first to go usually. Whenever I have a taste for Jamaican food, I call in my order and it is ready for me when I get there. The portion size is generous and I can usually eat off of it for two days or lunch and dinner the same day depending on when I got the meal. Definitely will continue to come here.

"Honestly, the lunch special for $4.50 is unbeatable! The food is always great! I usually get the Fried chicken special...rice and peas...oxtail gravy and a side salad. I'm in heaven! If you have the opportunity to check this place out, don't play yourself and treat yourself !"
"If it wasn't for someone sticking the restaurant's business card on my windshield; I would have never know that this place existed, and after googling the address, learned that it's practically walking distance from my house...but it's hot so I'll drive the 0.2 miles. There's not any big sign on the business for an easy spot. You just have to be on the lookout for a Jamaican flag in the window and remember that it's next to a Haitian restaurant. There's also limited parking.Located along Pembroke Rd.; Taste of Portland is a small Jamaican restaurant with a few table seating for customers that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner at reasonable prices. You can also get lunch specials during the week from 11am-3pm for $4.99, soups, sides, and cold beverages. The restaurant sells various snacks and products native to Jamaica as well. I was greeted by a pleasant female who took my order of the brown stew chicken lunch special. It came with rice & peas, steamed vegetables, plantain, and surprisingly a can soda of my choice. The food looked and smelled delightful. Now for the taste... The chicken was tender and browned nicely with a mild flavor. The rice & peas was cooked to a soft consistency. The steamed vegetables was soft and a bit of crunchy. My only problem was the food had one plantain which was sweet. Come on now, why be stingy with the plantain? They could have at least added 2 or 3 nice pieces. Overall the food was enjoyable. Reminds me of my grandma's cooking back in the islands. Look forward to return to try other dishes."
"Bahamian Pot specializes in Bahamian style dishes but is known for their conch & Boiled Fish with grits for breakfast.Boiled fish & grits is very good , clear savory broth with fish & grits. They also give you buttered bread. VERY GOOD. The prices are low and the quality is up there. What really impressed me was the courtesy & manners of everyone in there ! Everyone was super nice and made me feel so welcomed Definitely try this place out , you will NOT regret it.In the morning weekends go for Fish & grits ( before 11 am) or try their other dishes. ALL good"
"Anyone who knows me knows I was a fan of the late Anthony Bourdain. He visited a lot of Miami restaurants in his time and this is one of them. This one is in little Haiti I have not eaten there yet but I definitely want to.Whilst here he ate - jerk chicken, curry goat, roti and cow foot soup"
"Today I came for their Sunday special : tomato choka, eggplant choka, salt fish served with naan. With a bottle of water, it costed a meager $8+. What a deal. And the food was fresh and homely. The quantities are huge. Quick service. Has Bollywood music playing in the background giving it a Dhaba or small town restaurant feel. The naan felt doughey but other than that it's a must try if you are into budget friendly ethnic cuisines."
"Last week, we stopped by this place for lunch. It recently opened at this location a couple of months ago. We have been to Jamaica a few times and miss having some of their dishes. So this is the closest we can get to it for now. The ambiance is very nice with beautiful decor and furniture with large, comfortable couches. Nice and clean. They have generous portions of the bowls, so we decided to split the chicken bowl with rice and peas, yuca sticks, salsa, pineapple, and mango. It was good, but for me, it was a little too spicy. Still good though. The staff are so nice and helpful! We enjoyed chatting with them. They make you feel welcome. Our server was Brandon, who was friendly and attentive. They also have live music with a DJ booth at night.Parking is not the easiest because it is downtown Miami. We will come back again in the future."
"The lady who runs Jamrock Kitchen is a total rockstar- she plays chef, server, cashier and friendly host all at once and with the best smile on her face. Her food will satisfy any big eater or carnivore's dream. She fills your order to the brim and trust me, you will eat it all because it is so delicious. Her best seller is the ox tail, which is simply divine and fall off the bone tender. She told us that she sells out of this every day. I also had the goat curry, which is another winner. If you like spicy, as in really spicy, then try the jerk chicken. It was a little too much spice for what I was feeling up to that day. This is a place worth traveling for and if no TV show has featured this jewel of a kitchen, then they are missing out."
"This was my first time in Dade County. A friend of mine asked me to accompany him for dinner and he chose to dine at Tropical Oasis. The restaurant is located in a plaza along State Rd. 7 (441). Once inside, you'll see the take-out counter with a few seats for customers to sit and wait while the food is being prepared. To the left of the take-out counter, you go through a door and you are in the dining area where there are adequate table seating and a flat screen TV on the wall. A friendly female employee came by our table and gave us each a menu. Within a few minutes, she returned and took our orders. My friend ordered curry goat while I ordered brown stew chicken. Both meals was served with rice & peas, steamed cabbage, and a fried plantain. About 5 or 6 minutes, the female brought out our food. Visually it looked delicious. Here's what I thought about my meal...* The rice & peas was nicely cooked to a soft consistency, but it was a bit dry. I should have asked for some sauce on the side* The brown stew chicken was tender and browned in a flavorful sauce* The fried plantain was sweet. Wish I could have had two more* The steamed cabbage had a crunchy texture and tasted bland. Needed a bit of saltMy friend ate what he wanted and pushed the rest aside. I left back a small portion of the food and asked the female employee for a container to take my leftovers home. Before leaving, I looked around for a take-out menu, but I didn't see any. Who knows if I will ever return to this restaurant again. I'll leave the decision up to my friend."
"Food is Amazing !!! Curry was flavorful and had a little bit of spice, veggies were good and I usually don't like Jamaican rice but there rice is actually good! Customer service is excellent!"
"I've ordered takeout from Roywoods twice now, and each time I've had great customer service and awesome food! Having Caribbean cuisine in the Edgewater neighborhood is such a treat, and the jerk chicken, callalloo, rice and peas are amazing. Looking forward to going back to try additional dishes!"
"The world is still not quite open but we're in the neighborhood are always looking to an authentic Jamaican restaurant so we can stop going to Golden Crust. In typical Jamaican restaurant fashion DO NOT EXPECT AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE! Now the customer service wasn't bad but it wasn't great. On too the important stuff, the food! The oxtail was good, it wasn't the best but it hit the spot. When it has butter beans you know it's the real deal and this was real, it just had a few pieces that weren't tender enough for me. The curry goat was good, again, not the best but very good! Both could have had more gravy. The rice could also be a bit moister (cringe). The steam veg was really good! It was seasoned and cut nicely which is so rare! I'm going to go back to experience the bar when it's appropriate to, it gives me old carribean man vibes!"
"I visited this new restaurant and seriously loved it! First of all, you have to check out the bathroom! It's probably the coolest bathroom I've ever seen. The ambiance here is really nice and we received wonderful service. All the dishes we tried here were so good. My favorites were the tostones with carne en vara, the pork belly arepa, and the parilla. The cocktails we had were good too! I'd definitely come back here!"
"I love Hot off de Grill. Great location, service, and variety and the prices are also reasonable. They don't skimp on portions and everything I've tried has been delicious from the jerk chicken, oxtail, and curry goat to the mac and cheese and desserts."
"Our family friend had them cater for their son's birthday party and we really loved he food.So when we were planning for my baby shower, we made sure we got their contact information. My Hubby placed the order in advance and we were able to pick up an hour before the event. My Hubby, knowing me well, ordered me a side of macaroni and cheese to myself. For the baby shower we had jerk chicken, brown stew chicken, and cabbage. The food was so delicious and myself and other guest especially raves about the macaroni and cheese."
"In town for SOBE we found Redwood thru YELP. Redwood is a neat restaurant with a mix of traditional seating and home style from your house with even a breakout area with lounge chairs. The restaurant lighting is soft, and the bar area is attractive and intimate. We arrived at 6pm and met the chef/owner and were further in luck as tonight the restaurant offered live music - acoustic guitarMy wife and I shared the ceviche which was flavorful and refreshing with the proper amount of acid and came with homemade chips - delicious. For mains my wife had the linguine von gole , it was good but could have used more clams and the ones it was served with were slighlty overcooked. I ordered the flat bread marguerita with grill chicken as an additional throw on. The pizza size was perfect and the flavor was goodOverall a great environment to meet with friends and enjoy dinner next time I will try a chef special."
"So I first had good from here at a repast and had to have the name of the restaurant. Luckily for me it was located right by me! While looking through UberEats yesterday, I saw that they were offering free delivery. Win! Boy was I not disappointed. It reminded me of the first time I had it and my stomach was so happy. The griot (fried pork) was so delicious and flavorful. The rice was delicious and so were the fried plantains. The whole plate was delicious and as with most Haitian restaurants, they give you a lot of food. The only thing is I wish I would've ordered 2 pikliz instead of one! I know for next time though. Overall, the food was great and I will most definitely be back!!"
"Came by for some Trinidadian food in a road trip in Florida. The shop is casual and located in a small strip mall. There's parking in the front and very ample parking in the back as well. The staff were extremely friendly and food came out lightening fast. We got two doubles which were a delicious mess of chickpeas and roti. They were generous with the filling and gave us a healthy splash of their hot chili sauce as well. The beef pie was good but not as differentiated and a bit skimpy on meat filling, but the doubles really stole the show. Interior has some seating but is mostly take and go. Prices are very affordable for the portion sizes."
"I almost don't want to write this review, since I want to gatekeep this cool little lounge for myself and close friends. After dinner, my friend Erika suggested this cozy spot to keep the night going. It's tucked away next to JRK! Restaurant (and across from Government Center metrorail; if only Miami had 24 hr rail service). The bouncer at the door was friendly and professional, and I met up with friends at a corner table. Yeah for friends who have VIP! The soundtrack was a smooth mix of reggaeton, new and golden age (early 2000s) hip hop. My libation for the night was a Dusse cocktail. It inspired me to try and sing as well.I believe that earlier in the evening they do serve some bites from JRK! (Which I've enjoyed before) but as the night goes it is only drinks. A time was definitely had!"
"I After dirr Sipsip Calypso Rum Bar tonight, perched atop the newly revamped Mayfair House Hotel & Garden, seeking a quiet refuge after a delightful dinner at Chugs. The Grove was unusually tranquil, with only a smattering of tourists and snowbirds meandering about.Entering the lobby, I was immediately struck by the changes since my last visit. The hotel had undergone a complete makeover, exuding a fresh, modern vibe. As I ascended to the rooftop, anticipation bubbled within me, eager to see what awaited.Stepping onto the rooftop terrace, I was greeted by a transformed Sipsip. The bar sparkled with newfound splendor, inviting me to pull up a stool and unwind. Behind the bar stood Steve, whose friendly smile and infectious enthusiasm set the tone for the evening. When I asked for his recommendation, Steve's eyes twinkled mischievously before suggesting the house margarita. And oh, what a recommendation it was! Each sip was a burst of citrusy bliss, leaving me craving more.As the night wore on, I found myself enchanted by the ambience of Sipsip, soaking in the warm breeze and starlit sky. With a grateful heart, I bid farewell to Steve and the unforgettable experience, knowing that I would be back for more soon. Here's to the magic of Sipsip Calypso Rum Bar,and great service from Steve where every visit feels like coming home. Cheers to five stars and endless memories!"
