Summary:Have you heard about Toogoodtogo? It's an app that provides surprise food at discounted rates, featuring a variety of items based on what's available in participating stores. This innovative concept not only grabs the attention of restaurants but also encourages users to discover new items while helping reduce food waste. Helen's Kitchen, a Jamaican restaurant, is a fantastic addition to the app, offering unique flavors in a cozy space with limited parking. The interior is beautifully decorated with captivating Jamaican-style scenes. Food:At this Jamaican restaurant, you'll find tempting dishes like Oxtails, Curry Goat, Jerk Chicken, and more as you peruse the menu. They offer both small and large portions at varying prices. Our surprise dish turned out to be the curry chicken, and it was a generous serving that satisfied both my wife and I. Although the chicken was slightly salty, the rice helped balance the flavors. My wife enjoyed the vegetables. We're looking forward to trying more items and eagerly anticipating more surprises from them. Hopefully, the next time around, we won't receive the same dish. TLDR: TRY IT ! Support Jamaican Business!

I ordered at the restaurant to go, it took maybe about 10-15 minutes for them to prepare the food. Once I got in the car I noticed that the container was leaking as you can see from the picture! But on the good side the plate was VERY FULL. I didn't want to waste all the precious gravy though. The cabbage was 10/10. There was plenty of rice, I wish the oxtail and curry were spicier but both tasted slightly above average good. My plate was supposed to come with plantain but I think they forgot it. So I give them a 3.8/5 for the leaking plate, forgetting the plantain and giving me a beef patty instead of the chicken patty I asked for.

Talk about delicious Jamaican food, very flavorful. I had the brown chicken stew, peas n rice and plantains...I normally don't even eat plantain, but this was so good and it paired so well with this food. I also had a ting to drink which is Jamaica's version of a Sprite I think :-)

I am a huge fan of Jerk Chicken and oxtails. Anytime I'm able to try a new restaurant that serves Jerk Chicken and oxtails. I'm definitely gonna stop in. I am very glad that we stopped in and tried Helen's kitchen today. They're serving up some really good Jamaican cuisine and I'm a tell you what you will enjoy what they have to offer.Food: the oxtails were easily the best dish I had. Full of flavor, full of meat, just a top-notch dish for oxtails. That was a very flavorful tasty oxtail. Jerk Chicken was solid. it wasn't the best Jerk Chicken. It wasn't the worst Jerk Chicken. It was just a very solid Jerk Chicken. I would give the Jerk Chicken three or four stars out of five. Very tasty. Just the oxtails have were very special. I would definitely come back just for the oxtails. If you're a fan of oxtails stop by here ASAP. the customer service was great. We got three plates, and the food came out and a very timely matter. I will be back soon.

I'm a spice girl so it's no question, I love caribbean food!! I honestly can't tell you how many times Helen's kitchen popped up on my Yelp recommendations over the years but I finally tried it out! Jerk chicken is my absolute favorite Jamaican food but the jerk chicken was a straight disappointment at Helen's kitchen. When I picked up my order I saw one of the cooks unwrapping the chicken which was covered in Saran Wrap. I can tell you I took one bite and it was dry & did not taste fresh at all. Based on the Saran Wrap & taste I highly doubt the chicken was cooked fresh that day. Like another review said the jerk chicken tasted like rotisserie chicken with a side of jerk sauce. Meaning it was apparent the chicken was not marinated in jerk seasonings or spices before cooking and the jerk sauce was simply dabbed over the skin when served. It's a hard pass for me. Oxtails are my second favorite so I ordered them too, glad I did because they were tasty, tender! The plates are served with: - Rice & peas (dry & overcooked)- Steamed vegetables (more like cabbage only, it was over cooked but well seasoned) - Plantains (good but wish they put more than 2 slices) Beef patty: of all the items I tried at Helen's, I feel like the beef patty was the best item which sounds silly because it's only a starter but I truly think this was the most authentic tasting item. In fact, I would stop by again just for the beef patty. Make sure to add one to your order!

Very spacious restaurant with several tables to dine in or order to go. A family restaurant. Service was okay. They were pretty busy when we came in and there wasn't any guidance given for first time customers. Ordered the garlic shrimp, jerk chicken, and the jerk ribs. All came with rice and peas, plantains, cabbage. The jerk sauce for the chicken is good and kinda spicy. Rice and peas And cabbage are also good. I had the garlic shrimp - they were deveined but the tails were still on. The garlic sauce itself was ok. The ribs were also cool too. Oh, how could I forget the beef patty. This go for this! Well seasoned beef. Truly hand made. Something to note: eitherThe price listed on the menu is if you pay in cash or there is a price increase and the menu changed. I went back to look at my receipt and each dish had a small 1-3% increase in cost and I paid with a card.

I met Helen in person unexpectedly. Had no idea what to order, having never tried Jamaican Food. I went for the Red Snapper, Brown Chicken Stew, a beef patty with sides. Steamed vegetables Curry Mashed potatoes , Rice and pees. I really enjoyed the vegetables, I should have just gone with that. The fish sauce was very good. The fish I preferred fried. The Curry Potatoes I would have to get used to. The Brown Chicken and Rice went very well together.

Tried to Jamaican food for the first here and it was a good choice because the food here was amazing! Dedicated staff making your food, very small place and crew, but they do such a good job. When you walk inside it has a nice cozy ambiance, would have been a nice place to sit inside and eat.I got the jerk wings with the rice and peas and cabbage. Also got to try the beef patties that they had. Delicious! Would love to go back again!

I just so happened to be on the south side with this cup of hot chocolate and her 3 kids. They mine too but we not here for those details. Anyways, we were starving like we just left black church and the reviews on this spot were talking that talk. Walking in I could tell it was early so there was no line just like I like it. The scene was giving you're in a low key sketch part of town so you know the food about to hit. The lady taking my order was nice which is always a plus when ordering food for a first time somewhere. Portions? You ever had a grandma? She ever fixed your plate? That's all I gotta say about that. Highly recommend! Highly Enjoyable! Will be back!

Helen's Kitchen serves wonderful Jamaican food. Although the restaurant is very small, it is spotless. Helen is a gentle and warm woman who is appreciative of her repeat customers. The oxtails are fantastic. The small serving is more than ample. The large will definitely feed two people. It is well worth the effort to drive down South Post Oak to Helen's Kitchen.
