Sawada Coffee

wanted to fall in love and come back here so bad but as someone that drinks quality Japanese matcha everyday and makes it at home because cafes usually don't meet the standard, it just didn't hit wish the matcha flavor was stronger just tasted a bit diluted, husband got the matcha military latte and said he couldn't taste the espresso in it either, not horrible but not worth the price in my opinion sadly

The basics are great here. If you're looking for something quick cold brew Tokyo style rocks. They make the brown sugar syrup in store and you won't have to wait. After you can enjoy your coffee at the tables or the bench style seating. Can also pair with some green street meats.

This place is a victim of its own success. For many years, it has been my go-to spot for excellent coffee drinks in Chicago. I could even overlook the long lines, and the lack of a designated space in the café to actually sit and enjoy my coffee because the drinks were generally pretty good. However, I guess it is in the nature of all capitalistic endeavors that they should eventually diminish in quality as their owners pursue more and more profits using less and less: less staff, less effort and attention being paid to the drinks, and probably less quality ingredients. The results have been obvious to me as a long-time patron who has been coming here for at least five years. Drinks I had been getting for ages now taste worse, or taste little like what I have come to expect. Sometimes they have a tinny taste, sometimes the coffee tastes old and stale, and sometimes I find myself wondering why I didn't just go to Starbucks or something instead, a thought that would have been unfathomable to me in the past. Sawada is a cool place and drinks like the High Five Mocha, when made right, are delicious. It just so happens that such drinks are ever more rarely (less than 50% of the time) made well these days. Too bad.

I found this spot as I was searching for coffee places via Yelp while visiting Chicago. The pictures and reviews led me here, Friday morning. The entrance door was not easy to find since I was not familiar with this place but it's a door is filled with stickers and tags. Once you enter, it leads you to a staircase to the shop. The place has an interesting vibe, industrial mixed with modern coffee and food hall seating. There was a line but it was not too long. Ordered the Matcha Military Latte with extra shot ($7.95). It tasted really good and enjoyed it while outdoor dining. The outdoor dining is like an alley way which leads to the street with interesting wall-artwork. I really enjoyed my experience here and highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for good coffee.

My favorite coffee shop in Chicago! Love everything about Sawada. I always get the Tokyo latte and it's so good every time I get it. It is a bit sweet so make sure to adjust your sweetness if you're not a huge fan of sweet drinks. Love that they have a unique latte different from my usual iced vanilla latte. Service was great and love sitting in the food hall area below.

I've always loved coming to sawada for a quick coffee run. My favorite is the military coffee which is a drink mixed with matcha and a shot of espresso with milk. Such a smooth and great balance of flavor. This is my go to and it never disappoint. The line is always long but move fast. The cafe is inside of an old factory looking building with fun decor. Do not miss it when you visit west loop!

Cool spot to grab a coffee or matcha latte in West Loop. Sawada Coffee is in the same space as Green Street Meats, in a lofted area right next to the dining area. There are some interesting choices on the menu. I went with a "regular" matcha latte since I came in during the afternoon, but you can also get a matcha latte with espresso shots. The main menu at the counter doesn't list descriptions, so if you're curious what's in the Military Latte (like I was), take a look at the menu on the wall by the entrance first. Or ask the friendly staff for a recommendation!Although I ordered the "regular" matcha latte, this is by no means your average matcha latte! This matcha was bold and delicious -- I personally love the earthy flavors. Sometimes matcha can taste diluted, so I really appreciate the high quality matcha used at Sawada!

Coffee and friends make the perfect blend If you've never had @sawadacoffee here's your sign to drive over to Fulton market and try it! Pictured here is the cold brew with almond milk and the military latte and of course we got the bakery items, it's too good to pass up! We ended up doing the chocolate chip cookie and blueberry lemon cookie which is only seasonal so they are getting rid of it soon and both were as big as our heads! And we even tried the military mochinut and it matched to what the drink tasted like! All of it was very delicious The service and ambiance are always great here!

Lines are always out the door at this place on weekends. Tried their military latte - was a good "specialty" drink to try but nothing mindblowing.They share the space with Green Street Smoked Meats so you can sit at the benches in green street - drinking coffee at a bbq joint was a first for me

I had to try that military latte with matcha and espresso! The line may be a bit long but they move pretty quickly and there is plenty of searing both indoors and out. Next time I need to try a pastry.
