I really wanted to love this place as the owner and I assume her boys or relatives work here. They are a hard working family and love to support local businesses. With Vietnamese restaurants the pho is the standard. I ordered the #39 with flank steak, tendon and tripe. I was a little surprised at the portion size as other reviews mentioned how huge the portions are. The bowl itself was very large with a lot of soup but the actual noodles and meat portions were not quite so. Overall I think there were four slices of steak and only two tendons and two tripe. The amount of noodles were also on the not so large portion size. The broth itself was pretty good as it had a nice deep beef bone flavor. Overall it was quite good, but just the portion size was smaller than expected. The price also was a bit high at $16 which is why I also was expecting bigger portion.

A terrific family run restaurant. The boys bus and carry out the food. The whole family is involved. I tried the pho with steak and meatballs. The broth was excellent but a tad salty. I also enjoyed the shrimp spring rolls. Very fresh. I'm thinking they must be small batch made right there! Service is on point. I implore you to spread your international wings and try this place right here in Libertyville!

I was in town and craving pho. I found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. Service was excellent and the pho was delicious. The broth was everything I wanted it to be. If I am back in town, i'll definitely be coming back!

Not my first time at Pho Kho Gia Lai, I have been here many times before. But their richness of their broth and savoriness of their food is unmatched to any pho I've had in Illinois. I got the beef pho, with a special request of well done. They were able to accommodate my request. The spring rolls are my favorite, chewiness from the wrap and noodles, crunchiness from the lettuce and tofu, but the dipping sauce is amazing. The service is quick, the restaurant is family, with high chairs available, and the portions are huge. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Craving for Pho on a cold afternoon. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give them a try! It was around noon and there were 3 tables waiting for their food. The waitress was very friendly, nice and attentive. The place has simple decor, clean and cozy. I got my order to go. I ordered chicken pad Thai, Pho Tai, and crispy fried egg rolls. I wanted to get their pork rice dish but she told me the pork wasn't done marinating yet :( so I opted for pad thai instead. If you order pad thai, know that this is a Vietnamese place so the pad thai isn't going to taste anything like what you'd get at a Thai restaurant. It's less sweet , no cabbages, and the chicken was spicy. I didn't remember seeing anywhere on the menu indicating the chicken pad thai is spicy. I got this dish for my toddler and obviously, they weren't able to eat it. It was a bummer. The closest thing this dish is anything like pad thai are the noodles lol I would not be ordering this dish here again. It is a good noodle dish! But I wasn't liking the heat on the chicken or the flavors as much. The Pho, on the other hand, was delicious! (One would hope! Lol) Since I got mine to go, I picked the option of having to cook the meat myself at home. (The beef slices came in a zip lock bag. ) There was lots of noodles and bean sprouts in the container. The portion was huge! Easily can be shared with another person. Remember not to over cook the noodles! After the broth boils, I'd just throw the noodles , veggies and beef in there for a min or two max! Otherwise, you will get really soggy noodles. And let the beef defrost a little bit.The egg rolls were good. Crispy with lots of filling inside. I do have to mention it was very oily tho. I reheated it up and soaked up the oil with paper towels. I will be returning when I'm craving for Pho and will def be trying their pork dish and bahn mi!

Don't be fooled by their huge sized bowl! Because if you order any food with noodles ... their NOODLE PORTIONS ARE SUPER SMALL (like NOTICEABLY SMALL). We ordered spring rolls and they stuffed it with SO MUCH LETTUCE and tinsy threads of noodles. Their pho noodles has a considerably super small amount of noodles and mainly soup. Its really good soup though but they be SKIMPY on their noodles. Their dry vermicelli noodles is 95% lettuce and 5% noodles so you're almost eating a salad. It was pretty disappointing! We used to eat here many times when we were stationed in GL couple years ago and had positive experiences. But now we're back and tried them again and probably wont come back. Their prices increased but the portions/value of their food has significantly decreased. It is just sad! Check the other reviews of the recent customers with their spring rolls and you'll see how they stuffed it with SO MUCH LETTUCE and tinsy bit of noodles (which noodles should be the highlight especially in spring rolls, pho, and dry vermicelli noodles!) Recommend to go look for another viet restaurant to eat at.Photos added here are from the previous reviews, go check it out!

I love the more focused (and still extensive menu). I had ordered a few from the menu over the weeks and they are all very well done. Keep up the good tradition of not overly compromising and staying true or very close to the Viet taste.
