I came here for carryout on a Friday. It seemed a little pricey for soul food, and I was not sharing, so I got two appetizers, the fried green tomatoes and shrimp tacos. I was not eating red meat or pork at the time, I'll try those when I have company.I placed the order with the friendly hostess. She told me half an hour but I got a text much sooner. The fried green tomatoes (after I heated them in the oven, not the microwave) were crisp, well breaded, and not too salty. The tacos (coming in a set of 3) ate more like a fajita, as it had shrimp, cheese, sauce, and small tortilla wrap bread; tacos usually have those things as well, but also lettuce or tomatoes, and a hard-like shell. I know it's not supposed to be authentic Mexican, it's just a 'soul taco' and it was so good I almost hate to quibble! I want to try the egg rolls next time (another interesting take on fusion ethnic food). I hope they get a liquor license, or at least waive the corkage fee, when I go back to dine in.

This restaurant is a must try out . The food is fresh and always arrives to my table nice and hot . My favorite server is Mister Devin . They currently do not have liquor license. With that said they allow you to bring your own bottle. They will pour / mix your drink for you . My favorite on the menu: Fried Green Tomatoes -The Mac and Cheese - Corn bread - sweet potatoes- broccolini-asparagus always serves me right . I have been here plenty times,,, and all my guests enjoys the atmosphere and Love the food they choose,,,, I am a vegetarian and very picky were I eat,,,, this place is worth the ride from downtown Chicago!Try them out today!

One of thee best short ribs I've had! Fell off the bone! Tasty & Cooked to perfection! I could not stop eating it even though I should have! Solid sides although my sis sent the dressing back; bad batch, we still coming back! Waitress was young, friendly and gave good recommendations. No alcohol was a bust, corkage fee, no thank you. We went across the way for drinks after this fabulous meal. Huge space.

My wife and met a friend here since we were visiting from Texas. The restaurant looks nice and has a great vibe with the music playing! Very casual atmosphere from staff to patrons. We were sat promptly and greeted. They have a number of great food options. We tried pot roast egg rolls which has great flavor but needed more meat! There's a sauce they serve in the side that is pretty tasty. My wife and I shared the jerked lamb chops with cabbage and yams! Now this was an excellent meal. Those lamb chops were juicy, tender, and well seasoned, the yams were not too sweet and were excellent, the cabbage was on point as well! I can say I was not disappointed by the meal. (We shared cause we snacked all day, but not big enough if you are starving). As far as drinks! When went thru had not acquired their liquor license so it was BYOB. I made a quick walk to Trader Joe's to get margaritas and scotch. The wait staff do work together but they do not seem well organized. Waitress was missing a few times, I had to ask others for water and a refill. Price is a bit high for serving size and no drinks. We spent $142 on 3 people.

The ambiance was a little cluby,but the waitress was nice. The food was very good and arrived hot to the table. We agree we would come back. The prices are a little step for the amount of food but the taste was worth it.

The food wasn't great. No seasoning and not well fried/cleaned. Mac and cheese very subpar. Maybe from the box. I order the fried wings with Mac/cheese and yams.The ambiance is really for brunch crowd not for dinner service.Please do the patrons a favor: fire the chief.The prices don't reflect food quality.

The food was absolutely amazing! I enjoyed everything! The service from the manager to the service staff was top-tier they assured to continue to check on us making sure ALL our needs and food request was met! Def will be returning again!

The food was delicious, ambiance does match the food prices and the service was not good. The restrooms was out of order, I was told to go next door to Sweet Greens to use the restroom. They don't sell liquor, you have to byob.

As a birthday gift a friend invited me to lunch at a new restaurant in Hyde Park Jordyn's Soul Cafe. My friend and I were very interested in checking out this new eating spot. The restaurant's name was a connection for my friend as it's also her beloved granddaughter's name. We arrived at midafternoon so the restaurant was not crowded and we were immediately seated. My friend. and I had an absolutely wonderful experience! The food and our excellent and personable server Fran were on point. Fran was attentive and did not rush us as it took us a few minutes to determine our selections. We started with the mac and yam stuffed biscuit which was tasty but more like an egg roll than a biscuit. I expected some version of a traditional biscuit, however i was not disappointed. I had the smothered pork chops with dressing and mac and cheese as the allowed 2 sides. My friend had beef short ribs with dressing and collard green. The food came to the table steaming hot but not mouth burning, it was flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The portion size for the side dishes was rather small given the meal price--but not a deal breaker. The meat portion was good, and the meat was very tender and flavorful.The space is very comfortable and relaxing with beautiful decoration. However, given that families with under children may be among the diners, I recommend management not allow showing of videos with derogatory language on their big screen tv. The 20% gratuity for 2 people seems excessive, as well as the table charge for BYOB service. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and an excellent meal. We will be back!!

I recently dined here for datenight and had a mixed experience that I believe others should be aware of. Let me start by saying that the food was quite impressive overall. The flavors were well-balanced, and the dishes were beautifully presented. However, I have to note that the short rib, while tender and cooked to perfection, was a bit under-seasoned. A touch more seasoning would have elevated the dish to match the rest of the excellent menu.Now, onto the service--our waitress was absolutely fantastic. She was attentive, professional, and genuinely cared about making our dining experience enjoyable. Her service was the highlight of the evening and truly deserves commendation.Unfortunately, my experience was tarnished by the behavior of other staff members. At one point, we made a simple request for to go boxes to another employee, who acknowledged our request but proceeded to sit down and have a personal conversation while we waited. This level of disregard for customer service is unacceptable. It was frustrating and could have completely ruined our evening if it weren't for the great service provided by our waitress.In summary, while the food and our waitress were wonderful, the lack of professionalism from other staff members is something the management needs to address. It's a shame that such poor service could overshadow what otherwise could have been a perfect night.The male staff member in the video is the person who blatantly ignored our request.
