Bill M. "My bud and I ate lunch at Ghareeb Nawaz on Devon today. This is a no-frills establishment with an extensive menu posted on the wall, so it just may take a minute or two to identify what you'd like to order. The sign touted their "winter special" - chicken biryani for $5.99. Of course, I could not pass up such an eye-popping deal. The photos of the dishes just do not depict how sizeable the portions are in reality. I thought my platter of biryani was the bargain of the century (at least by 2023 standards) as the basmati rice was literally overflowing from the plate and there were three substantial chicken pieces embedded in the dish. Even as I added two samosas (the potato was better than the beef samosa), I spent less than nine dollars and had enough rice for another meal. My bud ordered an enormous amount of food, including chicken korma with a somewhat spicy curry sauce and a pile of rice, and a frisbee-sized disk of naan. His he-man appetite meant that he somehow wound up with no leftovers. We were both satisfied with the flavors and the value of our food. I ate my meal with a plastic spoon - I did not see any forks or knives anywhere. Remember - no-frills!"

We were somewhat in the area and decided to make the trek to Devon to check it out.We got lucky in that we were seated at the last open table. It took a little bit for the staff to realize we needed a waitress but once that happened it was smooth sailing. The samosas were excellent to kick things off. Then the chicken tikka - which I saw another table order - was on the top of the list for me and didn't disappoint. And finally the Highway Paneer was very good but a little too spicy for the girls. Of course, I could have eaten their naan all day long.Very good food. Nice atmosphere. Excellent option if you are in the area."

We've tried them all and Anmol is a definite stand out from the rest. The place is very clean and they also have a sink where you can wash your hands before and after eating. Entrees are not only outstanding but generously portioned. They are the only establishment on Devon that puts 3 sauces on the table (cilantro-creamy, mint onion chutney- herby, and a plum - sweet and spicy) to go with all your meats and entrees. The place is packed on weekends but well worth the wait. Staff is professional and won't rush you like some other places there do. Amna was our server and she was very attentive and made sure we had an enjoyable meal. All items are top quality, authentic, freshly made and delicious! This place doesn't disappoint!"

The food was hot and delicious, the portions were generous, and the presentation of the food was nice. The variety on the menu was large - although the drinks were a little constrained. I asked for tea, but I was warmly greeted with that which wasn't my imagination nor typical of the American convention (black tea). Something easily oversee-able, especially when the milky beverage was tasty nonetheless. The cleanliness of the restaurant, the service, the prices - all stellar. Our waitress was so darn polite and kind. It was unlike any previous service I had experienced in Illinois. There was no wait time either (we walked in at 12:47 p.m. on a Saturday). I couldn't wait to come back again! All good the first time, but the next two times I've been here including just a month or two ago they closed down for the night about an hour early and it was really really annoying because why post a closing time all over the web, and have that same Closing Time be on your door and all over the Internet and then people show up and you close early, in midsummer no less, on the night of the pride parade no less. Really though. There were people literally still getting their dishes and I would have probably eaten faster than any of them because I like a quick in and out as some girls and boys do. Steve A. "Because there's so many Indian restaurants on Devon Avenue, it doesn't matter a lot if one is bad. It has plenty more to choose from. Khan BBQ isn't bad, but there's many places that are better though. About the worst that can be said about it is the atmosphere. There's not much to it, so just focus on the food instead. A lot of familiar items are on the menu such as tandoori chicken if you're looking for traditional Indian barbecue. It also has non meat items. The one we got was the Chana Masala. It's about $12 for the vegetarian entrees. These don't come with anything though. Add a few bucks to get naan. Then add a few more to get rice. All of a sudden it doesn't sound like such a good deal here. That's the main reason I can go to many other places to get something quite similar. For quality of the food, it's good. It's not anything better than from many other places you can get to on Devon Avenue from here. The good thing about it is with the meaty and vegetarian items, it's good for groups because there's lots of variety."

Modest facility with a single, much-used bathroom and dedicated parking. Your correspondent likes not loves the kitchen's sensibilities but is equally unqualified to pass judgment on its level of authenticity. We always get their mojitos, which I will argue, aid in digestion. We have also had their brunch which is equally delicious. Grilled items are actually grilled as in smokey, not flat top griddle. Nothing tastes old or reheated (I've had that in proper Indian/Pakistani restaurants..you can't fool me guys). On that note, clean silverware, tables, and glasses too! Located about as far to the west as the Indian neighborhood gets. The prices and the spices make this worth venturing to and getting some authentic food for not a lot. Better than it looks, because it looks pretty plain so you think the food might be. It's not of course. There's the Indian classics and some lesser known ones. It's about $12 for an entree. We got a few of our favorites. Has some good vegetarian choices. I picked the Chana Masala. An unfortunate thing is entrees don't come with anything. These don't include naan or rice. Pay extra. However, I doubt anyone looking for a "clean meal" would ever consider entering. They used to maintain hours that kept them open late into the night, though, these days they promptly close by 11ish pm.Due to their status as is and based on reviews I haven't ordered any food that requires time for preparation. Due to their general lack of cleanliness of the serving areas and dining, I chalk them up to "street vendor" variety. Because of that I stick to ordering items that were freshly prepared and present under the heat lamps. Beef or veg samosas, chicken cheese cutlets, fried chicken, varying styles of pakora, etc. Fun side note: I've brought their fried chicken to gatherings. The consensus opinion was that this chicken is better than Popeye's. I can't say for certain whether it is or isn't. The food, the people, they are a-okay. Are they notable.. no. The grub is inexpensive and the food is fast. The food stall wouldn't be your first choice. Unless one was high, drunken or not carrying a lot of cash on them."

A quarter of my plate was lettuce with raw onion (which I really love to eat on my sandwiches). There wereAlso two pieces of naan that wereboth about the same size as the plate. My husband had the Butter Chicken and he says it was good and unlike any other Butter Chicken he has tried in the past (other places make it with more of a tomato flavor). It also came with rice (he could choose rice or naan) The Shish Kabob meal includes rice or naan on the menu... but she told us that there is a separate charge for this. She said prices for Halal meat have gone up. She did not charge us this time but will next time and instead of $8.99 for the Shish Kabob meal, we were charged $9.99 which is not a big deal. They also automatically add a 15% gratuity charge to the bill. I have seen a charge like this at other restaurants for large groups but never just for me and my husband. If they don't include the naan or the rice I don't think it would be very filling, I would rather see them have an updated menu with the correct (increased) pricing which includes naan or rice. Who does that ? Ive experienced asking for chairs, heck even a table- but asking PHYSICALLY TO MOVE FOR OTHER PATRONS? wow. Just wow. Also, of note- tables in front and back EMPTY. Why couldn't they sit there? We said no, while pointing out they were welcome to the extra chairs/ table, but we were not gonna move. The employee was so mad!! Made a face, all but rolled his eyes, and then started throwing the chairs around with flare! Who does that?! So overall- will we be going back? NO. Do i recommend anyone else go? Probably not. Chana Masala is her favorite so she got it. It's about $11 for entrees, which is a pretty typical price for Indian food it seems so I won't complain a whole lot about prices. The one I got was the Mix Sabzi. It's another vegetarian item. This is basically mixed vegetables. Both the entrees were good. The problem was they were only the main part and nothing else came with these. It didn't include naan. There was no rice. It's a couple bucks extra to get bread. Then a couple more for rice. I have had chana masala only once before, this one was a little bit thinner, spicier and more savory than my first experience elsewhere (first time was sweet). It was spicy and the flavor was complex and delicious. The basmati was fragrant and al dente. The tandoori chicken wrap on paratha was a little spicy and very flavorful, a bit saltier than expected but not bad. I love the chewiness of the paratha. I could probably eat 6 pieces of the bread alone. There's a self serve water cooler which I thought was abnormal but fine by me. Thankfully they don't blast the music, but the sound of conversation is boisterous. You have to speak up for your table mates to be able to hear you. All tables were taken, but thankfully one family was wrapping up, so we circled their table like vultures. :pOverall, not impressed. I'd maybe consider going again for drinks, but wouldn't bother with the food."
