Backyard Boil House

Our group is visiting Houston and we saw Backyard Boil House was a few minutes away from where we are staying. We decided to give it a shot and we are glad that we did! I tried the shrimp and grits and shrimp po' boy. The prices are a bit steep, we were originally going to try the etouffee but couldn't justify spending $33 on it. However, you can taste how fresh the ingredients are and you can tell they put care into preparing the food. Everything was delicious, and I would recommend the shrimp and grits.I just have a few suggestions from a customer's perspective. When you enter the restaurant, it's a bit unclear whether you're supposed to seat yourself or order at the counter. Additionally, I would have liked to see a description of what's included in each menu item. For example, the po' boy came with tomato, onion, lettuce, and pickles. The shrimp and grits also had leeks or maybe celery (?) in the grits. I think it would be helpful to see this on the menu before ordering. Overall, our group enjoyed our experience here and would come back.

Everything here is amazing! Good food, service and friendly patrons. I had a chance to meet the owner and he was also as pleasant as everything else when visiting here; however, it's not an owner review. The place itself deserves the 5stars here..

Hands down the food is really good. Definitely in my top 5 for the Houston area. My girlfriends and I stumbled upon this restaurant and I literally stalked them to see when they will be open again (Thurs-Sun). So far I've tried three different menu items and everything tasted absolutely amazing. My son took my food after he finished his. Needless to say, I ordered food to take home. I will say DO NOT wait until you are starving to visit here. Everything is made to order; therefore , it will take a while to get you food. I think it would help if they had some type of appetizers to hold you over while you wait. The ambiance is a chill backyard gathering vibe. I did enjoy the music they had playing. It really reminded of a family cookout. To be honest they can put some cards, dominos, uno, or connect four to occupy yourself to make up for the long wait time.

My favorite restaurant in the city, hands downs. The gumbo doesn't get more authentic than here. The po-boys are excellent as well. Also, this restaurant is BYOB, which is a plus. The only negative I have to say about this restaurant is the wait time but complimentary wine and smooth music makes up for it!

1 of the best seafood restaurants in the city that happens to serve an amazing burger! So good it's hard to describe actually. They are a hot menu item limited quantity as the they grind the meat fresh daily. This is fresh made to order food & restaurant not fast food. Friendly, family atmosphere. Always good food, music & company!

Great flavors! The cajun pasta, fried rice, and catfish and grits were my fave! We also tried the seafood boil and even though it was deliciously smothered in their famous sauce, i prefer my seafood boil spicy. Will definitely come back. Byob!!

The fish & catfish with salad was good. The rice with crab meat had a little kick to it. Which was great. Nice R&B played to set the ambiance, and the service was on point.

Mayne lemme tell you. I came across this place when I was in town for homecoming at Texas Southern. My wife and I were frankly a lil hung over, a lil stoned and a whole lot hungry. We were instantly greeted by the owner who made us feel like we were at home. The place is a juke joint off Scott and it just feels cozy. Football on the tv, hookah, and soul music. If I lived in third ward I'd be here chillin on Saturdays. Now on to the food. Perfection. The crab fried rice is amazing. Tons of crabs with a hint of creamy garlic sauce. Next up was the gumbo. Blue crab meat, sausage everything you want. They put they foot in it. Lastly the seafood boil was amazing. The sauce has me dreaming of my next trip. Do yourself a favor and experience this down home cookin!
