Vailhouse Oyster Bar & Grille

This place was just a solid no for us. We drove 45 minutes to come here. We ordered conch fritters for an app, and they were ok but very chewy. Next, we ordered a single ghost oyster for each of us. We got served the "challenge oysters" (which is eat 3 and get a free t shirt). We told the waitress we each only wanted one and she had nothing to say, so we said whatever and ate them (they were delish). We inquired about the free shirt, but of course, they were out of stock and would take our info so we could drive all the way back to pick them up, but she never took our number . I had the clam shower, which sucked, it was like fishy potato soup. My husband got the lobster roll it was pathetic and dry. My fatherbin law orderd the fried hadock dinner. He said it was decent, but the vodka cranberry beverage tasted like watered down cranberry juice. The fries were pretty good ‍. Don't waste your time coming here. I will say the head waitress/manager? Was very nice and understanding and fixed the bill for the oysters.

Came in for a late lunch. Friendly, quick service and fresh oysters. What more could you ask for? I started with some raw oysters on the half shell because how do you come to an oyster bar and not have oysters? Don't be silly. And then of course to continue with my oyster obsession, I got some fried oysters with fried okra. All good and all fresh. Nice lunch spot!

We love this place. We always start with the oysters Luther which is wonderful. Then we try to order different entrees each time - mine favorite has been the lobster roll. We have also had some deserts which were good. And service is always great. Will keep coming back.

Service was good. Food is fairly average for seafood. Oyster are not local. Gulf oysters. If you enjoy oysters. I'd suggest elsewhere.

The crab legs were old and the shrimp and grits were more like grits and gravy, not good. The potato salad was great and so was the fried okra. The bar was not that great, got a lemon in my drink that had some brown edges and dry where it had sit out so long. The lemon that came with crab looked better than one with drink.

Really hoping this place sticks around, I think it has a lot of potential to be a great spot. Inside in clean and very awesome setup for a oyster bar. Environment is fresh and well decorated, our visit presented an empty dining room, but the three gentlemen were all friendly, prices were reasonable and location/parking were all great. I worry the market for a place like this may stump business, but hope I'm wrong. I'm ready to visit again sometime.

My wife and I are in town for the NC Pickle festival. We had dinner here this evening. We both got the seafood combo. My wife got the fried oysters and scallops with dinner salad and loaded baked potato. I had the grouper and shrimp with side salad and collards. My wife said her food tasted great. My side salad and shrimp were great. The grouper was so greasy that I only tasted one piece. It tasted like it had soaked in old fry oil. The collards were terrible as well. Definitely canned mushy and disgusting. After reading the reviews I had high expectations. I do not recommend this restaurant. The waitress was excellent though.

This place is amazing even my kids love the fish and oysters. Great place to try something new and on fridays it's free desert. Will be back weekly. Love it.

This was our first visit. Wow! Go on Friday when everyone gets free cake. Who knew?!? We've been encouraged to try this Oyster Bar and Seafood Restaurant. We were a party of three and made a reservation earlier in the day. Seated on time and our server Jenn was super friendly! The oysters from Chesapeake were very good steamed. We finished off a half peck in short order ($25). We had 3 different entrees: fried flounder, lobster roll, and house salad with seared tuna. Other than disappointing mac and cheese and nothing special fried okra, we enjoyed our meal and excellent service. The environment is casual and welcoming. We enjoyed red velvet, pineapple and carrot cake later in the evening after taking our complimentary desserts home. Carrot cake got the blue ribbon. I highly encourage anyone in the Goldsboro area who enjoys seafood to stop in. There are some land lubber items on the menu.

Great service and food. Surprised it was not busier. We'll be back next time we visit Goldsboro.
