Zachary F. "We have been going to crafted in Greensboro for years and had no idea a location had opened up in Mebane! We were finishing some shopping at the outlets and saw this as an option nearby for dinner and knew we had to stop. Started with the queso and chips which are always good. You can get both corn and flour tortilla chips which is a nice change from other restaurants. For the main I got my go-to's the Big Truck and the Honky Tonk tacos with a side of fries. The big truck is a pulled pork mac and cheese taco, but the flavor combo is top tier. Always have and always will be one of my favorites. I also got the Honky Tonk, which is a Nashville hot chicken taco. I love the flavor on this taco because it's the perfect level of spice but still enjoyable. We will definitely be stopping back in when in the area from now on!"

So I figured it was worth a try.The cashier was very friendly and helped me figure out my order. I went with the turkey sandwich with the Vidalia onion dressing and pasta salad for my side. The food took maybe 10 minutes to prepare, which wasn't bad considering there was hardly a table to be found. Pretty good sandwich, nice quality ingredients, but certainly not the biggest I've ever had. The pasta salad was vegetarian, it had a tangy vinaigrette, it was solid. It was fine, but not what I would call special."

The aroma when I first walked in was amazing. After reviewing the menu, our order was placed at 3:17pm. I got the jam-tastic burger with fries. My friend build his own burger. The food came at 3:23pm. My burger was delicious, as expected. I got this the previous time I was here. My friend enjoyed his burger as well. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful! The cashiers also walk around and clean the tables and check on the customers, which is awesome. No complaints at all. Mondays are their burger special day, so that's the day to go!!"

They take CC but there's a $2 charge to do so. I try to pay with cash so they don't get charged a fee. I ordered the BBQ plate for lunch and got the last one for the day! It came with fries. Gregory H. "There are very few options around this area to eat, and unfortunately, Jake's seemed like the best alternative at the time. The dining area had no heat, and it was as cold inside as it was outside. My bride mentioned something about it to the gal taking our order and the poor cashier just clammed up and started shaking her head (her boss was standing behind her). The dining area was so cold we chose to eat outdoors where at least the sun was shining, but even the tables outside were a mess, not cleaned up or wiped down after previous patrons. The wait for the food wasn't awful, and the burgers themselves were okay, but the appearance and atmosphere of the entire place (indoors and out), lack of heat on a cold day just left a sour taste to my experience. It's unlikely we will be coming back to this location."

I'm going to be totally honest with you...if we hadn't read such good reviews prior to going I don't know that we would have went just based on the outside appearance of where this place is located. Its located in a run down looking strip where a gas station is located. But this will prove that REVIEWS DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We went in and much to our surprise we were greeted with one of the friendliest greetings by the staff. It is a small place and we arrived around 5:45 after that this place is slammed with friendly customers so get there as early as you can. Our server was also friendly so we were already impressed with the customer service. We ordered a kids flounder dinner with fries and a dinner with 2 kinds of shrimp (bang bang and cajun shrimp), slaw and baked potato. They also give you hushpuppies while you wait, which are delish especially with the honey butter. Also, they sell the hushpuppy mix . The food was delicious! Mex Etc

Mex Etc

★★★★☆ 4.4 (5)

Daniel B. "The "Mex Etc" food truck visited our apartment complex in Chapel Hill recently. This food truck had no online presence until now. ;)I found a menu online for these guys, but it was posted by another apartment community. Most food trucks have at least one social media account to show off their menu and let customers know their schedule, where they'll be next, promotions, etc. I found it strange there was nothing like that for Mex Etc.As you can see from my pictures, Mex Etc was actually a trailer hauled by a pickup truck; technically not a food truck and not uncommon. The trailer was painted black and had cool Dia de Muertos art (Day of the Dead art) on the outside. They had a "full" staff on-hand with two servers assisting customers outside and at least two cooks inside. The ladies outside the truck were friendly and attentive. When I asked the one who served us where Mex Etc was based, she told me they mostly serve in Chapel Hill and not to worry, they would be back. The business is called "Mex Etc" because they serve "Mexican food and more" as the graphic on the back of their trailer states. We were handed a disinfected, laminated, color menu featuring starters like chips and dip ($3.00-5.50 each), Mexican entrees such as burritos ($9.50 each) and quesadillas ($10.00 each), "Etc Entrees" like the Mex Etc Salad ($9.50) and Loaded Fries ($9.50), and burgers ($11.50 each). Drink options included Mexican Coke, Jarritos soda, and agua frescas such as tamarind, mango, and pineapple juices. My wife and I ended up going with:* Beer Battered Fish Tacos (3 for $11.50) - corn tortillas filled with beer-battered white fish with purple and green cabbage, corn, queso fresco, pico de gallo, and creamy avocado sauce; served with black beans* Pastor Burger ($11.50) - burger patty topped with pastor pork, pepper jack cheese, grilled pineapple, lettuce, pico de gallo, and fried jalapenos; served with seasoned friesThe food was good. It was delicious and hit the spot. We both really liked what we ordered. For me, it came down to Mex Etc's Chori Queso Burger, which is the same as the Pastor Burger described above except the pastor pork is replaced with chorizo sausage. I like chorizo better than pastor so if the Chori Queso Burger is at least as good as the Pastor Burger then I'm guessing it's pretty good. I went with the Pastor Burger because I was told it was one of the server's favorite burger. The Pastor Burger was served open-faced on grilled and, I think, buttered buns. Yum. There was a decent amount of pastor pork on top of the beef patty with melted cheese. The only thing that disappointed me was the lack of grilled pineapple. I tasted sweet pineapple in only one bite. The rest of the ingredients were fresh and the quality was A-OK. The "seasoned fries" didn't look or taste seasoned except maybe with a little bit of salt. The fries were the smooth, thick-cut, golden kind. Packets of ketchup and mayo were included in our bag.The Beer Battered Fish Tacos were tasty and satisfying. They were presented beautifully (so was the burger), colorful and chock-full of various ingredients. In addition to what was described on the menu above, the tacos came with a couple lime wedges. Good, meaty chunks of fish and a mouthwatering, well-balanced combination of fresh toppings. The black beans served on the side were a nice bonus. They were yummy with good flavor. Both entrees were filling. They definitely don't skimp on the portions. You will be full.Payments are handled via Square. When it came time to pay, I realized I forgot my wallet, but luckily, they accepted Google Pay so I used my phone. Using their touchpad, I typed in my email address to have the itemized receipt emailed to me.There were only a few groups ahead of us. Our order was made fresh and didn't take long - about 10 minutes, 15 tops.If you see Mex Etc make a stop near you, they're worth checking out. I'd order from them again."

Says it on the window before you enter so there's no reason to be surprised or complain. If you're expecting white table cloth covered tables then this isn't the place for you. Elaine F. "We were driving from NC back to Maryland, and it was almost lunchtime. We got off the highway after seeing a sign for a chicken fast food restaurant, but it said 4 miles away. We drove and drove but never found it. So we pulled into a little strip mall shopping center where there was a pizza place, an oyster bar, and Brian's Cheesesteaks. We decided to check out Brian's. The place is clearly a favorite with the locals. All the tables were full. There was no hostess, so you seat yourself. We headed for the counter and claimed two stools. They have quite a menu and it is a retro diner-style place. The server was really pleasant. We asked for two unsweet teas (clearly revealing ourselves as non-locals). The tea came out sweet anyway, but that was the only hiccup. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich with onion rings, and my friend did order a full cheesesteak (you can also order a half). Everything was delicious. The serving of onion rings was huge. The price for my huge chicken sandwich was only $6.50. They offered us free ice cream at the end, but we were too stuffed. So, the moral of the story is that it is WELL worth a short side trip to get off the interstate to eat at a local place that is NOT a fast food franchise."

My husband and I stopped in for lunch were dressed in athletic clothes which wasn't a big deal but I definitely noticed that the majority of people there were dressed in "real clothes" it is a very dark restaurant with white table clothes which gives it that "nicer" feel for sure. It's not a huge restaurant but I am not a fan of two top tables that are directly next to someone else to where you feel like you know all about the other person by the time you are done which is where we were sat. Our agenda today included stops at: Toasted, Boricua Soul, Queeny's, Bull City Burger, sweets by Shayda. All restaurants did an excellent job. There were six in our party. Here are my individual notes. Toasted - Toasted has been thriving in Durham for over a decade. They offer unique soups and toasted bites/panini's. We were served a cauliflower soup and an avocado crustini. I loved the cauliflower soup. It was surprisingly creamy and tasty. Two In our party loved the avacado crustini, Boricua Soul - This place is special. The husband and wife owners have a captivating story to share about the historical and Philosophical origins of their culinary adventure. They served us a "lunch box" with perfectly prepared Puerto Rican roast pork, greens (soul food) , Mac & Cheese (soul food) and tostones (Puerto Rican). It was a huge bite and was the favorite stop for 5 people in our party. Next time we attend a Durham Bulls game we plan to eat here.Queeny's - is a friendly, creative bar / pub. They served us upscale nachos and a glass of dry cider. The nachos were very popular. The dry cider was interesting and unique. They owner made us feel welcome and encouraged us to try the many well designed drinks and bar foods.Bill City Burgers - The owner do an outstanding job describing his unique commitment to serving only Greason fed beef raised locally and making every item served here in house by his team of chefs. The burgers were excellent. They were bursting with beefy flavor and cooked perfectly. Be sure to try the deep fried pickles. So unique and loved by all. Two in our party picked this stop as their "Best Bite" selection. Sweets by Sayda - our last stop offered devine French Pastries. Macrons, croissants and other delicacies were shared. Share these pastries with those you love. They will treasure these treats.Lastly, I would like to share our deep appreciation to the folks at "Taste of Carolina" food tours. Our hosts had to manage finding a fifth stop today since their schedule included a venue who had to close due to kitchen staff all falling ill. In addition, I was recently released from the hospital due to foot surgery. These made waking very difficult. Our hosts did everything possible to make sure I was included in all of the stops. We plan on doing these Taste of Carolina Tours in the future: Hillsborough, Carrboro and Winston-Salem."
