Bring cash! Double up on meat portion if you're getting thit nuong! Two size in banh mi, sandwiches are long not wide. My favorites are thap cam. Xiu mai was ok, but not the star of the show, and thit nuong has a stronger lemon grass flavor. Bread was on par. & for your mom to know, they don't offer a buy 5 get one free. A lot of places did that before, and so my mom was asking me that very same thing Big crowd in the morning, bring cash. Wait in line... seating area is open, and if you wanna order more off the menu, seats are usually open through the day and very easy to snag a table for 2, or 4p. It's pretty chill inside Parking is reasonable, and when I went there was a man who seemed to be homeless but helpful, helped direct parking - they also have a sign inside that says please do not give money to the homeless.

Like any long time business, Thim Hing has had their good / bad days. As a consumer who has been in the banh mi (eating) game for awhile, I can say I've had some really awesome times as well as not so great ones. If they were consistently on their A game, then they're one of the better options in this part of town. However, they're on their B game most of the time, so I'm giving them 4 stars for now. They did a good job in pivoting during the height of the pandemic. They managed to close the indoor dining and become a popular takeout spot. While things have resumed, I am not sure if they're back to their glory days, but I'd say it's getting back slowly. The place is spacious and the crowds fluctuate the hardest during the early morning and lunchtime.Their banh mi thap cam (combination) is probably my go-to sandwich. At $5, it's considered a cheap eat and it's well portioned with a crispy french baguette nicely packed with the cold cuts, paté, a little mayo/butter, and some nice crunchy greens. The airy nature of the bread is the most important part to me when considering a quality banh mi and I think they've done an outstanding job here. If thap cam is not your thing, then I recommend the thit nuong, aka grilled pork, as a worthy alternative. Unfortunately, I've not been the biggest fan of their xiu mai (meatball) or the ga xe (shredded chicken). I normally like these options at other shops, but they've been a tad on the dry side for me. Not the biggest deal in the world, but I've struck out on a few occasions when giving them chances on these ones.Their hot food is surprisingly underrated in my opinion. Their hoanh thanh (wonton) noodle soup ($7)is tasty and the $7.50 bo kho (beef stew) is a great item for some banh mi dipping. I am not against their hu tieu ($7) or their duck with egg noodle soup ($8.50). I think a good starter is their xiu mai dia + op la (meatball + eggs with banh bread and so is the banh bot chien (stir fried rice cakes in turmeric flour).Service has also been a bit hit or miss at times, but I try to take it in stride and focus on the food. There are a couple who seem disgruntled and I'm far from the only person who has noticed. I'll still keep coming to support and hope everyone else reading this also gives them a shot.

Thim Hing is one of the oldest banh mi shops in Houston. Growing up, my dad use to take my sister and I here pretty much every week, when it was still just across from Hong Kong City Mall. And we always loved it.A few years ago, Thim Hing moved a block down and it was still just as delicious as I remembered it to be. Unfortunately, though it is still a good sandwich, they really REALLY cut down in the amount of filling they give. I had ordered the combination banh mi with veggies in the side, and the lack of meat was appalling. Eating this, you're basically just filling up on bread. I think the entire banh Mi had a total of 1 meatball, 2 small slices cold pork meat, 3 slices of Cha lua (pork) and a thin long pate stick. There's always a line of people here waiting to pick up bulk orders on the weekend. Next time, instead of waiting, I'd rather head down a block to Nguyen Ngo and get a banh mi there instead.

Tasty sandwich, small portions.Thim Hing has but a banh mi staple in Houston for years and years and years. I remember my childhood years were filled with weekend runs to Thim Hing with my family. Their sandwiches have always been quite tasty but their portions have been diminishing.Ordered a combination sandwich for lunch on a Sunday. Got home, opened the sandwich, and found four thin slices of meat and one meatball. At $4+ for a large sandwich, one would expect a little more. The veggies were ordered on the side which offered a glimpse into just how little filling is really inside. I do admit, what I got was quite tasty. Is it a good sandwich? Yes. Is it worth the price with so many other options around? Not really. Overall, I think this place is worth a try but there are better deals around.

CASH ONLY PEOPLE! I don't know how many times I come here and fail to bring cash! One of my family's favorite places to order bánh mì! I love how they offer small or large bánh mì, however the large often sells out quick since it's a better price! Too bad there's no deals on how many sandwiches to buy and get one free. Regardless, I'd still buy plenty from them anyway!

I think like others have mentioned, it can be hit or miss here. The very first time I tried the Banh Mi here, it tasted quite old and turned me off from ever returning. My dad recently convinced me to give them another taste end of last year and I've been back since then. They have two sizes - medium and large for the Banh Mi. I always get a large and it's only $5. Great pricing. Our go tos are usually the Banh Mi Thap Cam (cold cut meats) and Banh Mi Thit Ngui (grilled pork). I love mine with extra jalapeño and sliced in half for easy munching. I think the amount of meat in the sandwiches are okay and for $2 more you can order extra meat if you want it. The bread is light and crispy and that's essential to a good Banh Mi. I've also tried the Banh Bot Chien here. It was delicious and crispy with plenty of bot chien. I will definitely get that one again. Customer service is subpar, but not surprising for this part of town lol Overall they are worth checking out and I would recommend.

I got the combination special in size large, and the meats and vegetables were perfectly portioned to match each bite. I especially like the surprising addition of xiu mai in the combo, but it works well! The bread is fresh and the exterior is so warm and crispy, and there isn't an excess of bread to fillings. Each bite is better than the last. They were a bit slow in getting out my order, even though I was the only customer in there at the time, but that's not a huge deal. The inside is like any average locally owned Asian restaurant in Houston--homey, with an assortment of knickknacks on the counters and walls.Would recommend this place to any banh mi lovers out there!

Cash or Zelle. I wanted to stop by and try one of the OG sandwich shops. There wasn't the Wow Factor that I was expecting. A little shy on the meat portion.

One of my favorite Banh Mi places in Houston. The baguette is crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. Great ratio of meat, vegetables, and butter. Incredibly cheap prices as well... $5.50 for a large! Make sure to bring cash!

This place used to be my favorite banh mi place. The bread is still exceptional but the protein portion is a joke.
