The Wooden Nickel

The Wooden Nickel is such a vibe. The inside is all wooden, giving old, classic pub vibes. The staff is so friendly and laid back. The menu has great offerings and they have daily specials that are constantly chasing. You can really get something new every time you go. Their taps are rotating each month as they bring in a new brewery's beers. It's truly a unique experience and I loved every part of it.

Really love the atmosphere of this place. Bartenders/waitresses were extremely friendly and attentive. We each started with a side salad which we were pleased to see some actually greens and veggies on. Dressings were good too. We each ordered a burger, me with macaroni salad and my wife with fries. All of it was good and cooked well. I will say for the price the portions are small but if you make this a hangout and snack and drinks places its perfect. I ordered Buffalo Trace Bourbon on the rocks. The drink was $11.50 but a very large drink. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a place with a good beer list, good drinks and food.

Can never go wrong with the chalk board specials. Hoping they have the smoked amberjack special again tonight. Out of this world!!! Wish they would post their chalk board on line every week

I came to the wooden nickel to see for myself what all the talk is about. Friday night with a party of 4 and the place was hopping. While we were waiting for drinks, our wives quickly found us some seats outside. The wait staff was crazy busy but seemed to go with it with nothing but a smile and some humor. The menu is very diverse with something for everyone. I got the fish tacos, which were as could as you could ask for. My wife got a burger, as did the other two in the party, and all said the party was cooked to their liking with no issues at all. All in all, this is a "can't miss" place when in Hillsborough. We'll definitely be back in the future.

Absolutely peak food with wonderful service and rustic atmosphere. The variety of foods there is absolutely stunning, from wings to po-boys, The Wooden Nickel has quite the selection. I'm no photographer, but the po-boy I ordered looked delicious before I even took a bite, the vibrant slaw and sauce making it look like an art piece.Overall this is quite the restaurant, so if you're in Hillsborough you should take a stop!

Welcome to the downtown Hillsborough public house. Come have a beer, have a meal and talk with some locals. You come in and you find the place keeps a tavern-style atmosphere that welcomes travelers and locals alike. I sat at the long community table. I made friends quickly.Some regulars talked me into trying out the wings. I'm glad I did. They are juicy with flavor and invite you to take your time eating. I got their garlic fries and their fried broccoli special. The garlic flavor was strong. I think it best to have the fries with another dish so the aftertaste doesn't linger. The fried broccoli offers a crunchy take on the vegetable.The night was busy. My server didn't spend a lot of time with me on each visit. I had to be direct each time and ensure I'm not left waiting. Be mindful of this when coming on busy nights.

The Wooden Nickel has by far the best Onion Rings in the United States. Since having these rings 15 years ago I've been on a personal journey, across this land, to find a ring that bests the Nickle. Each and every one has disappointed. None have come close. Some have scratched my itch ever so slightly, but simply said, you can't find a better Onion Ring. Take this Yelp review to the bank and cash it in. This is free money!

We did take out this Friday night we ordered a bunch of different things. A a wrap, stuffed with shrimp salad, and various vegetables and a side of cucumber salad. Spicy mildly and delicious. We also had their onion rings and fried pickles both were excellent made. Also had Their fish and chips seems to be the same batter used with the onion rings. Beer batter I think. The meal was ready in 15 minutes from the time we ordered it. Was ready when we arrived. All the folks that work here are always very attentive and nice. As far as the Wooden Nickle goes, it's a bar and there's a lot of people and it's noisy but you wouldn't expect it to be any other way. As far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong eating anything from here and by the way, there's a great bakery attached that makes some really good stuff for another day.

Trying not to be dramatic when I say this is my favorite place in the world. Incredible vibes from the moment you set foot from the outdoor covered patio to the indoor wooden booths and walls covered in pictures and brewery/sports signs. Wait staff is always friendly and hard working. Daily specials that never disappoint and rotating breweries every month.
