In one word, it was a disappointing experience. The waiter, as much as he tried, must have been new as he didn't know how to pour the wine. He ended up spilling some on the white table cloth.Husband's king crab was way much too salty and had to return it. He really does not like to fuss normally, but since the waiter asked if it was perfect so .... He ended up ordering lobster instead. The manager came to apologize and said he tasted it himself and said " yea, it was borderline salty". ??? I am not sure why he thought it was necessary to say that. Anyway, lobster was fine. Ordered coffees with the cheesecake. The cheesecake was quite delicious but the coffee was lukewarm warm to cold. Drank some and asked for more and got the same lukewarm warm coffee.I remember a famous chef once said that one of the secrets of a successful restaurant is that the hot food should be served hot and the cold food, coldAfter $350.00, as we were leaving, there were someone at the front desk but didn't bother saying good night or thank you. Instead we were treated to watch a fight between a valet and a customer(?). They were one inch from each other's face screaming and threatening while we had to stand there, watch and wait. All valet service was put on hold due to the fight. I thought this was a first class restaurant but my experience was anything but.

I visited for Houston restaurant week and I hadn't been in quite a long time. It is located in the Galleria area nd It will entail that you valet park. There were several choices to choose from and my wife got the seafood gumbo a salmon dish and the Tres Leches for dessert. I got the seafood gumbo also, shrimp fried rice and key lime pie for dessert. All were prepared very much to our liking and our service was excellent. She also had wine and I had a vodka drink. It was a great time to try their menu at a discounted prices. It is an excellent choice for seafood dishes. The price was very reasonable unlike normal visits which are more on the high end. Definitely a great place to visit.

3 stars experience during Houston Restaurant Weeks.Boy, were we all excited to dine in at this restaurant. It is a Houston classic! From the submarine looking terrain, to the large windows at the corner facing one of the busiest streets in Houston. It's the Galleria after all, and its one of the most popular spots to visit. This restaurant has been around for over 20 years, and for some of us, it was our very first time. I do believe they could have had better choices in regards to their food menu with HRW. This is all in regards to food allergies, mind you. So thats something we take seriously. But we came on a mission! To dine in on HRW style menu which benefits the local Houston Food banks.Their regular menu looks great and appealing. We may revisit and try items from their everyday menu. We did try their sushi and we loved it. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. It retained its shape well and came with a burst of flavor. My second favorite was the smoked salmon. It was chunky, held its shape and it had a great umami yet mellow flavor as well. Paired well with the bold marinated onions, capers, relish and crispy crackers. I did like the shrimp fried rice, it was flavorful and well seasoned - however it was quite luke-warm by the time it reached our table. Reason being? They forgot to deliver our order to the table. We waited for ages after being served appetizers. So much time passed by that I had to flag down a waiter from far away, just to get his notice and ask him what happened to our food? He quickly went in, back of the house and grabbed our meals. So basically our meals were sitting BOH, chillin and getting cold. No apologies or "I'm sorry for the delay in your food". Instead he mentioned, "Oh, we're packed and having a busy day here". Definitely didn't seem like it, with most of the room being empty. Just one day before, my entire office dined in here for HRW. What must have happened then? Not enough employees to accommodate diners needs. Lack of customer service was the down fall of our experience dining here at the Oceanaire. Dessert was good. It was ordered from their regular menu as its not provided with HRW. We opted for the key lime pie and it was definitely one of the better ones we've all had. Super tart, sweet and refreshing. Perfect on the palate after consuming mellow oceanic foods. Again, we all enjoyed our food. Totally look forward to revisiting and trying items from their regular menu. This is a nice spot to bring out of town guests. They have many non-seafood items as well for those that aren't much into seafood. We're just hoping for warmer and keen attentive service next time around for such a posh and elaborate spot such as this. Until next time!

It's been about 15 years ago since I last dined here for a business convention that I was attending. Last week, I was able to return to celebrate Houston Restaurant Weeks at lunchtime. After walking in, I realized how attractive the interior of this upscale restaurant is. It's decorated in an appropriate nautical theme with large windows facing Westheimer and an elegant looking bar area to boot. I regret not taking any pictures of the interior. It was 3 of us that day seated in the large main dining room and I ordered from the HRW lunch menu seafood gumbo for the first course followed by shrimp & grits for the second course all for $25. Yes it was only 2 courses but they were both ample in size and truly delicious. The gumbo arrived shortly after ordering in a cup. It was full of content that consisted of crab meat, shrimp and andouille sausage with a little bit of rice. The roux was perfect and with plenty of seafood it made me happy. A fine cup of gumbo, south Louisiana style. The only real hiccup to the meal was the approximate 40 minute gap before the second course arrived AND after we all complained to the waiter about the delay. When he finally brought the food he said that the kitchen had become backed up with orders hence the delay. The only problem was that only about 20% of the restaurant was occupied at the time. Anyway, my bowl of shrimp and grits arrived and initially I thought it looked a little small but then realized there was more food in the bowl than I thought. The large shrimp sitting on a bed of white cheddar grits drizzled with Cajun butter sauce was as good tasting as I have ever had. I enjoyed each bite with its rich taste and the entree was surprisingly filling. I didn't want any dessert but I would have eaten more of that entree. It was memorable. Our table service was good other than being forgotten about between the two courses. Also, I was disappointed to see my bill charged $4.50 for ice tea. Yes this is an upscale restaurant with regularly expensive prices so the HRW lunch menu was a real deal but charging that much for tea is excessive. It is for that reason and the delay in food delivery that I only give 4 stars. The food was worth 5 stars.

The chicken fried lobster is my favorite out of all seafood in Houston. Would highly recommend it. The service is mehExamples: called in order for pickup, told expected time frame, arrived late and the food was still not ready.Admiral hour - went and there was barely anyone there, still had to wait a while for foodService is hit or miss but the vibes are great and perfect for date night. Would not recommend any of the sushi options they have, just go to Nobu next door if you want sushi.

Lunchtime Peace and Dining .... Well almost! First off the meal was delicioso!!!I was pleasured with a shrimp fried rice, however minus the shrimp. (Vegan)Filled with peppers, onions, cabbage, flavor and more. The taste was enticing down to the smallest and last grain of rice to the point of then no more.My server was Logan and his greeting, smile and work was fantastic. I love it when I don't have to ask to refill my glass or top my glass off. Top Tier Service. The only distractor from the meal was a group performing photo shoots throughout the restaurant. Definitely not what you would expect in a fine dining establishment. Aside from this the meal and service maintains 4 stars. Although, I will be back. So, until the next one. Bye-Bye!
