Finally had the opportunity to try this place out as it has been on my list for years. We came early evening on a Saturday and were able to easily get a spot to sit inside (too hot to use their patio area now) - by 6pm or so the inside was full. We ordered 2 pizzas to share between the 3 of us and it was plenty. Web landed on the Cappellone "Big Hat" and Dream Catcher; both were artisan as advertised with nice quality ingredients on a perfectly crisp crust. Service was fine; minimal interaction given the order at the counter setup. Parking: street or paid lots nearby.

We came around 5 pm, there was no line and the staff was super helpful in explaining all the pizza options and even told us about their secret menu pizzas, which we ended up getting and it was delish! The crust is thin, but not NY style, and it didn't feel at all greasy, which we liked. I love my pizza with hot honey and was so happy to see they had Mike's hot honey here. My bf is a big ranch person though, so he was kinda disappointed they didn't have ranch .The ambience was chill and there's a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. It's a great place to come hang with a group of friends and eat some yummy pizza. Parking though might be a struggle depending on the time because it's street parking.

Hip lil spot for some tasty pizza and salad, I really enjoy this spot for their quality pizza and casual vibes. The menu is small, but the flavors are not. Choose one of the signature combinations listed on the menu. The pizza is cooked in a real pizza oven. There's lots of extra condiments and sauces to spice up your pizza or give it an extra oomph including hot honey. The pizza has a nice chew to the crust, and the premium ingredients really shine through. It's a bit on the pricey side, but it is a quality product. There's also a bit of patio space and plenty of street parking. Apparently they have live music sometimes on the stage.

Pepperoni Madness 5/5Fancy Backpack 5/5Dream Catcher 5/5I would say this is my favorite pizza place in town, and that's not just because this is where my partner and I had our first date and where we celebrated every year since. My absolute favorite is the pepperoni madness! The hot honey on top of a pepperoni pizza is an unique twist that had us going for one slice after another. Also, they have very good vegetarian options like the Dream Catcher for us to enjoy days in which she does not eat meat without compromising our dates. There are some board games in the restaurant and large tables, so it is also a perfect place for a group to hang out and play some games as well!

Intro: I'm going to start things off by firing some shots. I've always said that Houston doesn't have a great pizza scene. That doesn't mean that there aren't solid spots in town, just not at the level I would expect from one of the largest cities in the US. Despite my sentiments, I love pizza and am always on the lookout for an A+ spot. I had heard good things about The Gypsy Poet so I stopped by on a Friday evening for dinner at 8:00 p.m. I found street parking on a side street close by. Service (2/5): Things didn't get off to a good start. You order at the counter and there was a line outside of the door that took roughly 30 minutes to get through. I hate waiting in line. Why are the prospects there for a long line at The Gypsy Poet? The fact that it's a popular pizza joint and that it was a Friday were certainly factors. However, there are some logistical issues too. They don't have menus for you to look at until you're at the counter. As a result, unless people in line look up the menu online before they get to the cashier, they're going to spend a couple of minutes perusing the menu when it's their turn to order. That slows things down substantially. Instead of relying on people to be proactive, if I were The Gypsy Poet, I'd hand out menus to people waiting in line, and then voila, the "traffic jam" lessens. I know having a line outside of your restaurant adds hype, but I hate artificial hype. The staff I interacted with while I was there was pleasant so the service delivers in this area.Ambiance (3.5/5): After you place your order, the experience progressively gets better and better. You select your own seat and they will bring your food to you. There's a variety of seating available including tables, couches, bar stools, and some seating on the patio. It's not a large restaurant so we ended up sitting at the one open table we could find inside. Outside of the seating arrangement, I did notice their playlist. They were playing a lot of EDM as background noise and I dug it. Food (5/5): Gypsy Poet is arguably the best pizza in Houston that I've experienced. Right up there with Luna Pizzeria. We ordered both the Margherita pizza and the Pepperoni Madness pizza. The Margherita is your classic traditional pizza with San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, and basil. The Pepperoni Madness has both pepperoni and hot honey. Both of the pizzas were perfection. Everything: the crust, the cheese, the sauce, and the toppings worked in perfect harmony with each other. Out of the two, I would say I liked the Pepperoni Madness the best. It's one of their top sellers so go for it! We also had some tiramisu for dessert (my favorite dessert). A+ for the dessert as well. Drinks (4.5/5): A nice wine list. You can pick a bottle out while you're waiting in line which is exactly what I did. I went with a Pinot Noir, one of my favorite types of wine. They don't give you wine glasses, you're given regular glasses but it's all good. They also have a good beer selection and soft drinks if you're not feeling wine. Overall: The food is five stars hands down. With some logistical tweaks to ameliorate the dining experience, they would easily be a five-star restaurant in my book. They also have another location in The Heights. If you're looking for elite pizza in Houston, The Gypsy Poet has to be at the top of your list.

I love gypsy poet and they never disappoint. The service was great and pizza is always good. My favorite is the Dreamcatcher--super refreshing and flavorful, and the goat cheese isn't overpowering.

TL;DR - very tasty oven fired pizzas that are definitely a step above pizza chains like dominos. Food - I really enjoyed the thin, authentic pizza, and the hot honey pepperoni one was probably my favorite with the fancy backpacker in a close second. Tiramisu was great and overall I will def be back whenever I want quality pizza. I'll let the pics speak for themselves. Service - pretty standard but the line was out the door so there was like a 15 min wait to just get inside to place an order. Ambiance - definitely very busy and packed on a Sunday night. They had live music come in and play halfway through our meal, which I actually wasn't a huge fan of because the trombone and drums were pretty loud, so it wasn't possible to hold a normal conversation across the table without yelling at each other. I would have preferred not having live music because the busy atmosphere was already pretty lively while still being able to converse comfortably. I'd still come back for the pizza though haha

I came here for the first time a few weeks ago with a friend! I'd heard a lot about it from numerous people and locals, and finally got to check it out. You have to wait in line to order at a counter before finding somewhere to sit. Overall, the restaurant was clean and well set up - lots of places to sit.The place was super busy, indoors and outside on the patio. We had to wait in a pretty long line to order at the counter but it was worth it. Once we ordered, we didn't have to wait too long actually to be served - considering how busy it was. We ordered the Dream Catcher and Troublemaker and both were delicious!! I think the Dream Catcher was my favorite. I will definitely be back and will also be recommending to friends and others visiting town.

Gypsy Poet's honey hot pizza literally had a hold on me! The hubs and I are obsessed and it's delicious. The wine selection and service is great as well. It's counter service and the line flows smoothly. GP is definitely a great vibe and hangout spot with nice eats. Cheers!
