We decided to come back for another dinner. It was a cold, snowy night in Denver so we were only one of two tables in the restaurant, which was a bit strange. The service was great but this time the food was just a miss. The menu seems smaller, not sure if it's because they are in a temporary location, but personally speaking, LoHi was a better spot and they should have stayed there. The wine menu was OK but they had some really expensive wines by the glass that didn't impress me. We started with the Little Gems salad, which was probably the best item we ate that night. The dressing was balanced, delicate, and a great combo of flavors with the crunchy lettuce. Then we got the Yuzu Lemongrass Broth, all I tasted was salt, no other flavors. The first time it came out was room temp, so they reheated it and served it in two bowls for us since we were sharing. The veggies were fresh, but I didn't care for this dish. Then we got the Caramelized Onion and Black Truffle Risotto, also very heavy on the salt instead of using it to bring out flavor it was drowning it. The dish was otherwise rich and hearty and the mushrooms were great. Finally, we got the crab cake. This was a disaster. They poured a bisque all around it which made it soggy and mushy. The crab cake in itself was mediocre, it wasn't lump crab meat and it just didn't have that fresh flavor. I get it, the crab comes from somewhere but this was not great. One crab cake for the price was also over the top, so it needs to be perfect. Was a bummer since the first time was a much better experience.

I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to come here! Now one of my top favorite restaurants in denver. It's THAT good. They brought out complementary bubbles because we were celebrating my husbands bday! We sat in the bar area at a high top (make a reservation online) and they had indoor outdoor dining with open doors which made it perfect for dining during these summer nights! We started with the beets and burrata and the cauliflower. Both had the best textures and complementary flavors. I think the cauliflower was the best fried cauliflower I've had. It was orangey but not overpowering and definitely had a sweet heat. So delish. We also shared the filet and bone marrow and it was divine. Worth the splurge! The bone marrow was buttery and bursting with flavor and the filet was perfectly cooked and had a nice reduction to add more flavor. We ended dinner with dessert and their take on an espresso martini (mezcal forward, very strong and had hints of chili), very unique and worth a try. The star here was the butter cake. Holy moley. It has a brûléed top which makes it crunchy and the cake and lemon curd were so creamy and the berry compote made it the perfect summer dessert. Drooling thinking about it! Service was incredible. We got fresh plates and silverware with every order and the staff was very attentive. This is an upscale restaurant with great service and incredible food. We can't wait to come back! Also - checkout the happy hour deals! So happy we found out about that so we can come back! Give the fifth string a try - you will be so happy you did! Free street parking around.

Food service ambience. You have it all. A little tricky to find since the restaurant is in a winery but totally worth it.

It's all about the Tallow. Quite literally, this is why we decided to dine here. Now, the husbeast loved the tallow. It's rich but not like marrow or pâté. It's more light. Soak it up with bread and it's just a great app. There was only two of us and it was a little tough to finish. Recommend for 3 or 4. We also had the Saganaki appetizer that they flambé at the table. It was a good salty rich cheese. Main entrees, I had the scallops - obvi cooked perfectly. The husbeast had the 6oz center cut medium rare. Also cooked perfectly. Like butter. No room for dessert. However a digestif and dessert would also be a good option for a lte evening. Pro-tip: this is in the highlands. No need to even say it anymore just ride share.

I have been to Fifth String for dinner 3x now and for brunch 1 time, all the pictures in this post are from brunch. What I love most about Fifth String is the attention to detail in the food and drink at every level. From presentation to taste, to overall composure. The second is the intimate setting, the bar area and high tops are my preferred seating but the general restaurant seating is nice too and provides you a view of the kitchen. For dinner the tallow candle is a delightful start (not pictured) and the bread is amazing, with the perfect crispy crust and the most pillowy soft inside. Also their ravioli will leave your mouth watering and contemplating ordering another plate. I recently went to Fifth String for brunch and the menu while small is mighty. I personally prefer when a restaurant removes my plethora of options especially while hungover. Speaking of being hungover, their bottomless mimosa (and Bellini) option is a bit expensive for the time limit, it is $20/45 minutes. And honestly at that rate you are either getting hammered in 45 min to get your money's worth or you are paying the same amount you would if you were paying for each one. Hands down my favorite thing I ate at brunch was the donut. It seems so simple and unassuming but the thought of that delightful donut has followed me since I tried it. With its delightfully light and sweet glaze with the sweet chewy dough inside and served at the perfectly slightly warm temperature. Next time I will be ordering one just for myself, sharing be damned. I also had their version of biscuits and gravy and it was good but definitely overshadowed by that memory imprinting donut. I do think that the biscuits and gravy needed a dash of their house made hot sauce to bring it to the next level, which I obviously did. Again attention to composure on the dish really made it stand out. If you are looking for a dinner or brunch for someone with slightly fancier tastes I have to recommend Fifth String it is bound to impress.

We have gone a few times because of how good the food and service are! We went for a birthday and got free champagne and told happy birthday but just about every person that worked there. The bread for candle bread service wasn't quite ready yet, so they gave us a complimentary loaf of focaccia bread for free. The bread for candle Everyone is knowledgeable on the menu and wine offerings. The Scallops are some of the best I've had in denver. All of the flavors paired so well together. I prefer to sit near the bar/patio vs inside. It's more "lively" by the patio and inside is more romantic/date night vibe. Really can't recommend the fifth string more!

The service is one of the best, they truly make you feel like a VIP. First of all, my coat tag read 007 and it was quite special. Then the Tallow Candle Bread really felt like a "Service." I loved dipping the bread in the melted cow fat; would not have hesitated asking for second helpings if it was softer and a "regular" loaf instead of sourdough...My Seared New England Sea Scallops was top notch. Every bite is 5-stars. I think even my friend gave up finishing her entree so she could have some of mine. Hubby's Chive and Black Pepper Gnocchi had a little too much black pepper; but it's in the name, after all. The gnocchi was nicely made (I believe in house?) as it had just the right amount of chewiness. Overall a great night here. Parking can be a little tight.

We couldn't wait to try this new concept, and overall the experience was okay. The food was good, fresh and had some unique flavors. Staff were friendly, attentive and very accommodating. The restaurant has a neat vibe as well. That being said, the prices are absolutely outrageous. Yes, we're all aware of the inflationary pressure on wholesale food prices, however $38 for a green chili sausage ravioli. Really? The "main dishes" part of the menu was boring and lacks creativity. Two expensive steaks and a chicken dish. Half a chicken for $49! I almost fell out of my chair.Won't rush back. Was hoping for a regular spot in our neighborhood, but this isn't it.

Simply wonderful spot for a nice dinner. Came here for my bachelorette weekend and was impressed from beginning to end with the impeccable service, ambience and food. When we arrived for our 8 PM reservation we were told our table wasn't ready yet - we ended up waiting for about 20-25 minutes which normally would be super annoying. However, we were given champagne, bread and their AMAZING tater tots to munch on while we waited. One of the chefs Amos also introduced himself to me while I waited. It was a nice gesture and him and the servers kept checking in and apologizing which totally wasn't needed but they went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of.When we were finally seated, we proceeded to order several dishes, each one very impressive. We got a large seafood tower, and every single bite of seafood was superb, at peak freshness. We also got the hamachi crudo, scallops, octopus and bone marrow spaghetti, gnocchi, and ravioli. Each dish was very good - however the best dish of the night were the scallops. I can think of one other time in my life that I had the best scallops I've ever had, and I think this dish tied with that one. If it is on the menu you MUST order this. We ended up getting several desserts as well - peach sorbet, chocolate pot de creme and the butter cake. The butter cake was EXTREMELY delicious, with an excellent lemon curd to pair with. Overall superb meal - I will say one small downside was that the AC was blasting on us the entire night and we were all freezing by the end (it was about 80-90 degrees out too) so if they could just adjust that then this place would be perfect.

The Fifth String has taken over what used to be Old Major in the Highlands and if there is a Sleeper of the year award, I am giving it to them! I hadn't heard much about this spot, but if the Yelp reviews can tell you anything, it's that it is worth 5 WHOLE stars - and who am I to argue with my fellow Yelpers??First, their cocktails are TOP TIER. I tried a couple: Yuzu Enjoy Myself with Japanese whisky, yuzu puree and egg white and the Blood Orange Crush with mezcal, fireberry tea, spiced blood orange - inventive and all DELICIOUS. Second, the food! Their menu is simple - some great, fresh seafood, steak, pasta. There was not one bite I did not enjoy:Tallow Candle Bread Service - a candle made out of rendered beef fat and seasoned with herbs and fleur de sel is brought to the table with fantastic, housemade bread. This is a zero waste product and everything is edible except for the flame! Delicious and unique. Wagyu Steak Carpaccio - this is some of the best carpaccio I've had in town. Chili crunch, pine nuts, harrisa aioli, thai basil, ramp kimchi, picled ramps, olive oil - it may SOUND like there's too many things on top of the shaved wagyu, but trust me IT WORKS.12oz Wagyu Flatiron - cooked perfectly medium rare served with potato mille fuielle, charred onions, kombu-beef jus, chanterelles and spinach. Don't sleep on those sides, they were also just as good as that steak.I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant- not to mention the service was just incredible. Everyone was approachable and knowledgeable and so warm and inviting. I am DREAMING of a brunch here one day - I think they had it at one point, but don't anymore. I just KNOW that menu will be ridiculous. Either way, can't wait to get back in here!
