I remember being one of those people who believed that I should stay away from bread and pastas. Where that came from? I'll never know. But man, am I glad that I'm over that phase in life because I'm pretty sure I won't ever return to those dark days after having my first loaf from TGM.I've thoroughly enjoyed The General Muir on a number of occasions but only had a sandwich once. So when I ventured over to Grant Park Farmers Market to be a healthy hot girl (of course I used my reusable Yelp tote bag *shameless plug*) and saw TGM, I figured it was a great day to indulge in some freshly baked bread. I already had a bag full of organic produce, what's a bit of bread?!TGM was located towards the back of the market in a large open space. When I approached their tent, the line was full of guests mulling over what bagels they'd pick or which loaves were calling their names. With the goods displayed out on the table, they knew what they were doing to us LOL. That bread smelled and looked so good, I was tempted to ask for a little bite of the bagels the man in front of me just purchased. (Sharing is caring!) When it was my turn, I made the difficult choice of flavors, not going overboard with too much since I know it'd just be for me. I went with the Asiago loaf and what a choice. I love that the TGM team member who packaged my loaf then asked me, "What other treats can I get for you?" Don't try and trap me up, sis! She was so sweet and smooth about it, I almost let my inner greed come out as I really wanted like 5 more loaves just to try them all. My loaf was packaged so well, but not for long. As soon as I got home from the market, I sliced up a little piece... just to be sure all was well of course. Listen. Wow. It was SO good. A delicious crust, soft inside and the nooks and crannies are almost glazed with the butter it was made with. I've enjoyed it with butter, without, as a grilled cheese sandwich, to dip in my hummus and whew. My summer body will not be happy at this new love I have for TGM bread, but summer will get whatever bread body I got!

TGM was good. It's a sub shop of The General Muir, I think it's where they bake all of the bread and pastries for the restaurant. It's super simple they have a cash register, one big table and the baking equipment. The menu is simple, there are about 3-4 soups, bread offerings and a small selection of refrigerated items.I ordered the lunch combo which gives you a choice of a 16oz soup and a bread for about $10. The soups sit in a heater and so orders come quick. The flavor was great and fresh, as well as the bread. I would definitely recommend this for a quick, affordable and tasty lunch option. Much better alternative to Panera. It's located near the Emory campus, adjacent to The General Muir restaurant. I though it was the deli at the far right end of the restaurant but it's the store front right next door.

TGM bread provides the bread for Freds Meats, Yalla, West Egg, the Canteen, and obviously TGM. I was hoping that going to the source would provide me with a discount avenue to get my gluten fix. Unfortunately that was not the case. Expect to pay $7 or more for a loaf here. I don't know if I am getting old but bread prices in Atlanta are getting to be on the crazy side. Price aside, this is some tasty bread. The olive loaf was barely containing the bounty of plum whole olives incased in its pillowy dough. This selection was made only after being allowed to sample numerous pieces of cut bread dipped in my choice of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, 3 types of butter, and jam. All guarded by a stern looking woman who's totally customer service consisted of "what can I get you" and the words "seven fifty". I have to admit her exchange did remind me of my roots in NYC and somehow added to the experience. I doubt that will be the case for everyone.

I've wanted to try this pop up. My friend and I came here for lunch this past Thursday and they were serving soup and bread - perfect for the cold weather! I ordered the Italian wedding soup + pain levain and she ordered the Lox Chowder + demi baguette. Both the soups were delicious! You could tell the meatball/sausage in the Italian wedding soup was house-made and there was clumps of chewy mozzarella which was delicious. I got to try my friend's chowder and also really enjoyed it. Instead of clams, it had smoked salmon! I was a bit bummed that my combo only had a thin slice of bread compared to the baguette, but both the pain levain and baguettes were great with the soup. Although $8 for a soup and bread combination was a bit pricey, I like the concept of the pop up and look forward to trying other things from TGM bread next time.

Kickass The General Muir now has a non-sweets bakery next door. Though I haven't bought any bread from them, I have tried the rotating popup lunch twice and give it my stamp of approval.Visit #1: Soup and SandwichA few months ago, there was a soup + sandwich lunch going on, offering sandwiches ($9 each) and tomato bisque ($4, combo for $12) whipped up and served by Chef Todd Ginsburg. I felt like a celebrity, having him making my sandwich and bring it out to me. Both he and the woman taking my order at the register were extremely nice and cared what I thought about the food. I went with the Meat and Potatoes sandwich after having it recommended to me. It didn't take long to come out. The sandwich was full of flavor (and butter too, I made good use of the provided napkins). Not sure if I'm completely sold on the idea of potatoes in a sandwich, but the bacon, onions, creme fraiche, and Gruyere were appreciated elements. The bread was killer delish and toasted just right. The tomato bisque was the perfect cozy cup for a cutting chilly day, with the right balance of the sharp tomato and cream.Visit #2: Pita and HummusNow TGM Bread is doing a pita popup Tuesday-Friday from 11:30-1:30. I ordered the broccoli hummus tehina bowl ($10) to go, and it came with a juicy pickle and a piping hot and airy pita. Chef Todd wasn't working but the guy who assembled my order was nice though the cashier seemed a tad dour. While you can buy more for $1.50 each, I wish two pitas were offered instead of just one since I ended up eating the leftover hummus with a spoon, like pudding. That's acceptable, right??? The hummus was ridiculously creamy and dressed up with crunchy broccoli crowns and olive oil. Egyptian spice-herb mix dukkah added the right seasoning and the hazelnuts a little bit of crunchy texture. The lamb offering sounded tempting but it wasn't meant to be since TGM Bread was all out. I recommend going next door and picking up a slice of the insane German chocolate cheesecake for your dessert. Perfect!

Such great bread, baked goods and treats. In addition, it's a great place for lunch to get a variety of homemade soups too. I never come away from here without a smile on my face. In addition to this shop, you can find them at some of the farmer's markets around town too. Great and friendly service. It's the only bread in our house!

I went for the pop up soup + bread. I had the Italian wedding soup which was tasty and very filling. It came with 2 slices of fresh bread. Yum. They put the lentils in when they serve which keeps them from turning to mush. Broth was delicious and the addition of chard made me feel hashtag healthy. ;) I like that they had a different type of bread hand picked to go with each soup. (They will let you swap for whatever you like if you wanna be that person)Actual restaurant is very industrial which I think is cool. But grab and go if you don't.

Their potato leek soup is hands down the best thing to have for lunch. The Asiago bread is perfect as a side. I wish they brought back the chocolate croissants!!
