Soul Y Mex Kitchen

Finally a place that has great Soulfood eats near my job!!!! I was on Instagram and noticed a plate that was purchased by a church friend and I must say it was great!!! The location is in conjunction with a Gas station and it reminds me of some of the "One stop shop" eateries in Louisiana. (Gas up, grab a beverage of choice, and a plate to go). The parking was decent, the inside was clean; however, I'm not sure on the bathrooms. The owner (Tracy) was very courteous with a smile and southern charm. Now let's discuss the eats!!! I had the Cajun Baked Chicken over rice, sweet potatoes, and Collard greens.... And ohhhhh my goodness the chicken was well seasoned and falling off the bone!!! I was hesitant to stop by due to location (gas station), but I'm so glad I did. Enjoy!!!

No soul in this chicken , Mac n cheese or greens, even the corn bread was bland. $21 for lunch and had absolutely no flavor other than some salt in the fried chicken. This was their second chance, will not be going back!

I decided to grab a fish basket from the good people @ Soul Y Mex! While I was waiting for the freshly battered and fried fish to come up, that peach cobbler was whispering (take me with you) softly! So I responded and got it for dessert! to my soul! Whewwww it was amazing!!

I was craving some really good soul food and this place did not disappoint! I usually have to drive to the south side so it was a really convenient location for me. The service was spectacular and you definitely get your moneys worth. I'm from Mississippi and it definitely gave down south Sunday dinner. Found my new fav spot! Everything was bomb!

Received a very welcoming first try. Good customer service, nicely seasoned and plenty of options. Would recommend. Oxtails, dirty rice, Mac n cheese and cabbage. Banana pudding and strawberry cake, kool aid and cornbread.

Wanted to try some soul food while in Houston, so we thought we would try Soul Y Amex Kitchen. It is hard to find because it's inside of the gas station and there is no outside sign until you get close to the store. You can't miss it when you get inside. The owner was very nice and answered all of our questions. Come early because they sell out fast. Hubby got oxtails because he loves them whenever he can get them. He paired it with beans and rice and green beans it's potatoes. I had a fried pork chop with the sweet potatoes and cabbage. There is so much food the containers! We got a slice of lemon cake too. We enjoyed everything but the sweet potatoes were the best that I have had in a very long time. If you are in Houston, you should try them.

I should've known a soul food restaurant in a gas station would be fire! I was thoroughly impressed with the selection. I bought the turkey wings, mac n'cheese, cabbage, and added sweet potatoes because I couldn't decide on the sides. Everything was so good. The start of the meal was the sweet potatoes.

I tried to find this place on a Thursday around noon. You enter in the little convenience store and see they have a kitchen in there but it's a Korean place. It matches all the pictures so I don't know if they moved locations or whatever but they're not at the address listed for them anymore.

Ordered 2 plates, smothered chops /meat loaf and 2 sides. the pork chop was undercooked, big bulky and extremely salty! cabbage had no seasoning, taste at all, yams tasted like something weird. Cornbread was not fresh; meatloaf was very salty! mac and cheese was even nasty! The dirty rice had no flavor at all. Overall, I will never ever visit this place ever again. I ended up vomiting and wasted 47.00 all bc I thought it could have been good due to video I saw on Instagram which is evidently false advertisement.

I give this restaurant ten stars. The food is always hot and fresh. The staff is very welcoming and customer friendly. I order the same fried fish, Mac n cheese and candid yams. I highly recommend this restaurant . I stop by every time I'm in the area. The desserts are all homemade. The caramel cake is my favorite. Don't forget to grab some homemade koolaid before checking out. Best restaurant in Houston on my list.
