It is time for a larger building. This place is crowded, again. As a matter of fact, every time I come it is crowded. I witnessed 6 customer turn away, because of the long line. The first young lady, server you encounter needs a lot of customer service training...So I noticed on the last few trips in, the side portions are smaller. I typically order oxtails, but today they did not taste their best and way too much fat left on the meat.

Amazing soul food! You can never go wrong with Simp's. It's that type a food you take a bite and automatically close your eyes and start shakin your head it tastes so good. This place was in my home town of Galveston for lots of years. After a hurricane many years ago it moved to La Marque. They serve cafeteria style. Today I went in and got a country style rib plate. It's served on a bed of white rice. I had it with the country gravy. For sides I had collard greens and yams. A cornbread muffin is included as well. Got it to go. Always delicious! So very flavorful. In my opinion one plate of theirs is big enough for two people. They serve large portions. Amazing food and huge portions. A plate will run you about $13.

This place is amazing!!! I never liked okra, but the okra here at Simps it's so delicious!! The chicken is seasoned very nice and cooked perfectly well!. The sweet potatoes are super delicious and sweet! But not overwhelming sweet!! I Can keep going on and on about the food, but you just have to go and get you some! The let the ambiance fool you and don't let the outside stop you from going In. The ladies are so sweet and friendly.

It was a random lunch stop. My brother recommended the place so me and my man stopped in for some oxtails. Let me tell you...best oxtails I've had in a LONG TIME. We got southern cabbage and broccoli rice and cheese casserole. The portions were enough for two meals. So I had the rest for dinner. Omg. This is why I swear by hole in the wall restaurants....they are always THE BEST. You will not be disappointed.

My co workers suggested I give this place a try. I've driven past it but had no idea what it was. It's small and locally owned and did not disappoint. I tried the smothered pork chops, greens, and broccoli cheese casserole. The portions were huge. You can share between 2 people or have it for lunch and dinner. I will be trying again since there are certain items served on certain days. Highly recommend if you're in the area in the mood for souls food.

Good soul, food, but expensive and the building is rundown.Do not expect to eat inside, there is no AC and the Texas heat that is going to be killer. And the space is so small that even if you sit down at a table, there will be people crowding all around you which is not comfortable. I always come here for their fried shrimp and catfish, but tell me why I went last week and my total is $28? I got an extra piece of cornbread, but no drink or nothing and it was almost $30 for one meal in the building does not even have air conditioning. It is crazy. Mind you, they do load up the plate so you get a pretty good amount of food. You could definitely share it between two people, but I still think that's a bit overkill. I like the taste of their seasoning on the fish and shrimp, I only wish that it was fried harder. Because you cannot really eat inside you have to take it home and if it sits in the container, I can get soggy. I've literally seen people sitting in their car is eating to avoid this.They do have a great gumbo, but it's almost always sold out by the time I get there, so if you want it, make sure to get there early. Of the sides, I like the taste of the okra and the broccoli and cheese casserole. The mac & cheese is OK but nothing to write home about. The sweet potatoes are OK but they are not sweet enough for me and the base is kind of watery. I keep coming back because it's some of the best Soulfood on this side of Houston, but it could definitely be improved .Also, they used to take card, but they somehow switched to be cash only.

If you want to eat lunch and don't plan on doing anything for the rest of the day ...come here. Simps rock out some AMAZING soul / southern food and they load you up. So if you're ever in Texas City and are starving to death for some kick ass food , the wonderful ladies at Simps will hook you up

Food and people are awesome Been there a few times and the food is always good. Will be back . I love those pork chops greens and pinto beans . I thought that my granny was back there cooking

The food was amazing! Everything was seasoned to perfection. I got the pork chops, cabbage, dressing, meatloaf, and fried fish. We went on a Sunday, luckily we were the 2nd in line...the line got long really quick!

Great soul food short wait times and good staff. Food tasted like granny's kitchen definitely will go back
