I've been to this place a handful of times over several years...maybe 10 years ago, or even 5+ years ago...this place was amazing, had unique food and flavors. Just went last year and this year/2024, and it's lackluster.Service was decent for a group of 4 on a weekday --- patient server but not the nicest. Food menu is pretty much the same, however the flavors (portions) have really decreased, but the prices have remained the same or increased. Cost of 4 people ended up being about $200+ but we were still hungry after. Had some appetizers: Agedashi Tofu (fried) is better than the Hiyayakko (cold tofu) --- both ok overall. Had two sushi rolls, the menu only had 2 available...seems extremely limited for a Japanese/sushi place. They were 2/5.More appetizer/meat skewers --- Pork belly 4/5 delicious, Chicken hearts 4/5 yummy, Tuna tartar 4/5 and Octopus 2/5 no taste. Also ordered the Sashimi Deluxe, was pretty fresh and good but that doesn't require any flavoring. Had the BBQ eel, this was tasty but a small portion for $15! What used to be one order portion of shrimp and/or veggie tempura now requires two orders to be the same...it was fresh and crispy though. Tea was nice and hot.Ambiance was fine, crowded, bit noisy - you do walk out smelling like that place though. Nice for groups, cool setting and decor.Overall, C barely average and expensive. Definitely try other places before this.

Shoya Japanese Restaurant used to be my favorite local spot. However, my last two recent visits have been disappointing. I sat at the sushi bar both times, and unfortunately, I noticed roaches crawling between the sushi plates. This was quite alarming and made me lose my appetite. Additionally, I discovered that Shoya has several health inspection violations scoring 74 at one point. This is concerning and needs to be addressed promptly. I sincerely hope the management takes immediate action to fix these issues. I'd love to be able to visit and enjoy their food once more.

Went there with my friends today evening.pros: attentive & kind workers. Interior is somewhat feels like typical Japanese izakaya spot.cons: food quality is lower than 1 star. sashimi, chicken karaage ( fried chicken), geso yaki ( squid leg), kushi yaki, oshinko, all the way below of average Japanese cuisine quality. After one bite, could not take em anymore. smells bad, paper chewing texture, overly fried & cooked meats. Just horrible. Overall, do not waste your money & time. I'd rather BBQ it at my backyard.

I have been coming to Shoya for years and it's definitely a nice spot! It gets super busy and opens late. I usually get the Tonkotsu Red Tan Tan ramen and it's the best!! I love the spice and the minced meat, it's my Go-to!! I also recently tried the Una-Guy don and it was AWESOME!!! It's a rice bowl topped with Eel and sukiyaki beef and it's a wonderful combination that you NEED to try! I am a huge eel fan so this was right up my alley. It also comes with a little cup of miso soup. The rice has a bit of the sauce from the meat and the eel on it and i could eat three bowls of just that!!! Love it! One thing about Shoya, is I feel that it is a little inconsistent. Sometimes the ramen broth is not as flavorful as it could be, each experience is a little different so I usually enjoy my time there, but I have had one or two bad meals. Still worth a stop if you love Japanese food!!!!

My family has been frequenting this restaurant for many years. They're authentic and Japanese owned. The taste doesn't change for more than a decade, and their quality is solid. Large menu with a good variety of dishes. Their menu has photos for every dish so it helps a lot with ordering food. They have a separate menu for sushi which I never really see they give out until you ask for it.The plaza has plenty of parking but spots in front of the restaurant is normally full. They're in the same plaza with H-mart and many other milk teaand sweets shops. They don't take reservation with groups of less than 6 persons, and weekend dinner are always packed. We normally come very early to avoid the long lines and waiting crowds. Highly recommended!

My friends and I came here on a Saturday night to find their front area FILLED with people waiting. Our party of 3 waited about 30 minutes before getting seated. I specifically was craving sushi so I was confused when there were a limited amount of options on their menu but tons of other noodles, appetizers, and rice bowls to pick from instead. After asking our waitress, we did receive a more expansive maki list so when in doubt, ask. We shared the Caterpillar and salmon skin maki, katsu don, and sukiyaki. Although the more basic choice of the two maki, I certainly preferred the caterpillar maki since I didn't realize it was only going to be salmon skin and not salmon slices. Both the katsu and sukiyaki were well seasoned and served fresh from their kitchen since they were boiling upon arrival. If you're looking to itch your true sushi craving, you may want to venture to other places but otherwise they had plenty of other items to pick from! Portions are a little on the smaller side but given the prices, I feel as though it is evenly matched. Service is on the slower side which makes their little "call lights" at the table convenient even though it still feels a little rude. Would come again to try some of their other items from their menu!

We loooooooved our Valentines Day dinner here. This place was recommended by a coworker of mine, and I was not disappointed! The Ramen was ON POINT! The dishes here are super authentic, and the prices are totally reasonable. The ambiance of this place really transports you to another place and time. I really liked the booths with the tables where you sat on the floor. Next time I come, I'm going to ask to sit in one of those. The service here was super fast, and the button on the table to ask for service was pretty cool too. We came on Valentines day, around 5:45pm... and had no wait. By the time we were done eating around 7pm, the wait for a table must have been a long one- there had to be about 20 couples waiting. So you know this place has good food.10/10 recommend and will definitely return!

I have no idea why this place has a 3.8, when it has such fresh fish and so many options. Maybe it's because it's got so many reviews and it's just average this way after a certain point! I had the chirashi don deluxe, and it seriously had so much good stuff in it. The piece of eel I got was large and really tasty. It wish it had less tamago/egg. But all the cuts of fish were phenomenal. The scallop was like butter. highly recommend the takoyaki, it really hits like the real stuff, nothing like you get at a lot of cheaper places, like Virginia Ramen, H Mart, etc. Our server was great, she checked on us so much. There's also a button on the table. You can press to call for service. We were seated right away on a Wednesday night without any issue. It doesn't look like they take reservations, but it wasn't needed. We definitely want to come back with a larger group for one of the private rooms! We love that they have blankets and a shoe rack for them.

Everything was so salty unfortunately (except for sushi) and I could not enjoy the food. Red snapper (not even sure if what we got was red snapper but the server said it was) had a fishy taste. Salmon and yellowtail were good.

The food is amazing. Everything I ate was delicious and fresh. The staff are super kind and helpful. Its nice and peaceful so I would recommend as a place where you go to relax after work.I would like to add that they also have a sushi bar so you can watch the cooks like a weirdo if you so wish. (Like I do!)
