My family has been coming to this place for large, family celebrations for years! They are very accommodating to large groups. They're very kind and thoughtful, and do whatever they can to make our experience amazing. My dad came in tonight with a broken leg, and they made sure his foot was raised and made him very comfortable. Let's get to the reason why we're here- the food! Their food is always delicious. If I could recommend anything, it's their pumpkin and fried eggplant appetizers! Both dishes are serviced with a yogurt sauce and ground beef, and they are DELICIOUS. I personally make sure to fill up on those two appetizers. Their mains are very large portions and very filling. You could even order one main for two people to share. They have meat or shrimp on skewers, served with rice and bread. It's really good. Highly recommend!

I got the "bug" for this type of food while working on projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Thing is, nearly all of the restaurants here in the U.S. serve up the same dishes as the next. So no surprises here. The appetizer was deep fried eggplant with lamb sauce. Phenomenal! The entree was the beef and chicken combo with rice. It was simply "ok". Beef was overcooked and the chicken was fine. El problemo was... not much flavor to the meats, or the rice. I mean, it was ok, but HEY! I got turned on to this cuisine over seas. And these dishes just didn't deliver the BANG I remember. Service was good, tho.Ah well. Last time I checked, there's not a shortage of these restaurants around the bay area, so I'll try elsewhere.Go here... if you're in a pinch.

My first time to an Afghan restaurant and it didn't disappoint! We had for apps the SAMBOSA-E-GOUSHTI and MASHAWA (lentil soup). The sambosa's were really good and they came with a yummy vinegar based chutney! I'm not a big lamb person, but the lamb didn't taste "lamby"! The soup was OK. For dinner, we had the chicken skewers, which were really good, and the lawang (kinda like an Afghan version of chicken Tikka masala), which was also really good! Both dishes came with rice and bread, and we had the pumpkin as a side dish. My bf ordered us chai tea and firnee for desert, the firnee was very yummy! It's similar to a rice pudding that was garnished with cinnamon and pistachio. The restaurant was pretty busy and the service was really good! Before I could even ask for more soda or chutney, they were asking me if I wanted more!

We were introduced to this place by our company and it's an all-time favorite amongst everyone (rightfully so). The last time we came here was for my mom's birthday a few years ago and now revisiting after years, it's still a favorite! The portion sizes are big so can never go wrong with not having enough. The chicken is soft and cooked well. The shrimp is cooked well and huge too lol It seems like a fairly simple meal, yet everything was cooked perfectly! The sauces included a green spicy sauce and a yogurt sauce that go perfectly with the meal, especially the chicken (my favorite).Aside from the food, the service was good and the waiters were friendly and funny too. They were helpful in giving us our meal accordingly, offered sauces to try and checked in on us with our meals to see if we were ok or needed to order anything additionally. Never had any problems with their service and always look forward to coming by when I can.

One of my favorite places to eat. Everything here is amazing. I know I left a review before. But just a reminder that this place is top tier. The servers are all so nice, and the food is amazing. I forgot to take a picture of the chicken kebab. BUT HOW IS THE CHICKEN BREAST SO JUICY AND FLAVORFUL?? lol I need to learn the secret. Lamb and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The Pakawra e Katchalu is great!! The lamb sauce and yogurt combo is perfection. The gushefeel is very nice for dessert. Next time I'll get coffee to have with it. Thank you again for another amazing dinner.

I can't quite give it 5 stars but a solid 4.5 stars. It has a nice spacious dining area. The service is always super nice. The food is just divine. The chicken, shrimp, kadu, gulpi, badenjan, lamb. The bread and the various sauces. There isn't one dish here that I have had that I don't like. It gets busy for lunch sometimes, which says a lot since it's not on a main drag. And definitely can also get busy at dinner time. We love the food here!

I love Kabul. I've been here many times and will gladly come back. I love this salad with its creamy dressing and very finely powdered mint on top. I love the flat bread that is served at the beginning of the meal. My favorite entree is the sauteed pumpkin and the sauteed eggplant both can be vegetarian if you wish. They can be served with or without some meat on top and yogurt over the top. All the kebabs are delicious -- they have salmon, chicken, and lamb and I have tried them all The rice that comes alongside many of the dishes is delicious also. I've also had many of the other vegetarian dishes including the sauteed spinach and sauteed cauliflower. I've also had the mantoo, return little steam dumplings with ground lamb and onion with yogurt drizzled over the top. Delicious. As well as sambosa-e-goushti, fried bread filled with smashed chickpeas and lamb. So delicious as well. I always have the cardamom tea. I have not tried desserts here because the portions are large and I usually go home with a to-go box, so there is not a lot of room for dessert!Definitely try this place and you'll enjoy the warm hospitality and delicious food.

We've been getting takeout from Kabul's San Carlos for about 15 years and feel it's deserving of 5 stars for quality, taste and variety. I usually get the Chef Platter (equally great as an entrée or appetizer) and my husband's usual go-to is one of the kebab combos. This past weekend, we ordered takeout for my birthday and experienced our first disappointment. When our order was handed to us, we assumed it was all correct, so when we got home, we put it on the kitchen counter for about a half hour while waiting for our guests to arrive. When we opened the containers, we found that 3 of the 4 entrees were incorrect, but being that we were all hungry, we made a mass decision to just eat what we were given.Instead of 2 Chef Platters and beef kebabs, we got slow-cooked chicken breasts, slow-cooked lamb and a chicken & salmon kebab combo. All 3 were good, but not what we were looking forward to eating. I will continue ordering takeout from here because the food is very good and I have no issues giving it 5 stars, but next time I'll be sure to double-check my order before taking it home.
