I'm not surprised by the excellent rating of Fox Tale Fermentation. Finally went and tried this place out last Saturday.Arrived at about 5:30pm. There was only one table left which we were able to snag. The place has a cozy vibe to it and everyone seemed to be having a good time. One of the main pulls for me was that they had a legit menu for mocktails. I know it's a micro brewery but I'm not big on alcohol these days. Anyways, we tried the "Rosie's margarita" and the "Spell of sage." Both were wonderful and very crafty. You can tell they put effort into their menu.Next, we opted for the spread, which comes with 3 fermentation pairings ( we picked 2 and asked the a recommendation on the 3rd), with lots of vibrant veggies, and a good amount of their toasted sunflower bread. Wow, the entire spread was delightful, we were in heaven. And to know that it's such a healthy meal as well. This place is so unique. They have delightfully tasty vegan and vegetarian food unlike an other. You can tell they put care and passion into their menu and food and drinks. Service was very friendly. We will be back for sure!

Wow! What a gem! Everything we ordered were hands down unmatched to anything I have ever had. We ordered the crazy Nachos & polenta with wild mushrooms! 10/10 The uniqueness and simplicity of their style is solid. They offer seasonal and unique craft brews and kombucha. They also have a variety of mock-tails as well. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. The vibe is awesome and love their playlist. Such a good place to catch up with some friends and grab a quick bite. Definitely will be coming back & telling our friends & fam.

Seriously, trust the 4.8 star reviews so far. This place is amazing. The -0.2 star must be because of the location in dtsj.Decided to try this on a whim. I was very skeptical because I'm a meat lover (still am) but this place is now on my top favorite restaurants. The dishes and drinks here are creative and the flavor combo is just so smart and delicious. This is on the level of a lot of upscale places without the price tag.- The various fermented veggies are good, but I'm just not a fan of picked veggie in general.- The polenta: WOW. Flavor bomb!- The burger: THIS! I don't know what magic they put in this but it's so good. I would pick this over any meat burger!!I just wish this shop is in a better location so I can eat here more often.

Fox Tale is such a unique establishment, and I am here for it! I've only been here a couple of times, and I really enjoyed my experience each time. The beer selection is somewhat small and changes regularly. They use a lot of unconventional ingredients and flavor combinations, and I think they often source many things locally (we had friends contribute loquats from their yard one time for a brew). They also have a variety of mocktails that are well worth trying, too! Again, the ingredients lists always catch my eye. It's nice to have enticing options, whether you drink alcohol or not.The food is a must here if you like fermented foods! I love that just about everything is plant-based and they make use of seasonal ingredients. So much to try! There's also fun stuff to look at and purchase, like honey, jars of fermented foods, or artwork (besides their beautiful logo!). It's nice that they showcase local artists and host events/activities. Definitely a bright spot in downtown SJ!

Small hidden gem in downtown. Service is excellent!! You can tell the owner is very passionate and knowledgeable in what she does. It was amazing to speak to her briefly about her process in the food she makes there. If you are a vegan and non alcoholic drinker and if you are a drinker and. In vegan I highly recommend you come try this place. It is now my favorite place to go whenever I am in town!

I absolutely love Fox Tale Fermentation Project. Their food is deliciously full of flavor and fresh ingredients. The first time I went I tried their sampler plate and kombucha, the second time I tried their special veggie burger and their new fermented syrup Berliner flight. Everything was great and I'd order again, definitely recommend the sampler plate and flight for anyone making their first visit to get a feel for their specialties. A good number of tables for the small space, plus outdoor seating, I've never had trouble getting a spot to sit down. Great ambiance. I recommend parking in a nearby ParkSJ garage (first 90 minutes free) and walking a few minutes. Definitely a great spot for lunch or dinner!

Outside the FoxThe brainchild of a brewer and a superfoods chef, Fox Tale seeks to bring small pub-style bites made with housemade lacto-fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, kimchi, and miso plate. To round out one's meal they offer up a bevy of fermented drinks made from not the usual list of suspects one would think of for making beers, kombucha and the like, such as beets, mushrooms, and even black rice. The Good:*Entire menu is mostly vegan, with a few vegetarian items sprinkled in. *Great selection of beers that all sounded super interesting, but I only had time for one and chose to see what their Hazy IPA (Sonic Bloom) had in store, and it was a good one. Nice notes of grapefruit to go with the inherent funkiness of hops made this a fine choice if you're into IPAs. *On the non-alcoholic side, Carissa enjoyed her Green Retreat Tea as it was perfectly sweetened and refreshing. *Small outdoor pet-friendly patio*Fast-casual dining where you order and pay at the counter and the food is brought to your table. *The Funk Bowl was just that, especially when paired with their red kimchi, which gave this bowl a great funky earthiness. *The Polenta and Morels might be the very definition of Ugly-Delicious as it wasn't much to look at, but boy, oh boy, I couldn't stop stealing bites from my beloved's bowl. (: It's been a few weeks, so I can't recall the flavor exactly, but it was just very moreish in its deep, creamy umami flavors. *You can purchase bottles of their beers to take home, as well as their housemade fermented goodies. I highly recommend the previously mentioned spicy red kimchi, but their jalapeño-garlic sauerkraut was also superlative. The Meh:*Location is very small, and the indoor seating is just high-tops, which I'm not a fan of. *Service was iffy, at best. Tried to engage the gentleman taking orders, and he was just not having it. He wasn't friendly, had almost zero knowledge of the menu, and just seemed to hate life in general. But on the plus side, at least he wasn't an asshole, just full of ennui--which I've been accused of being on a part-time basis, so I get it. Life sucks. The Ugly:*It's in the heart of DTSJ, so parking will always be an issue here. However, it's not DTSF, so it's not gonna be impossible. Pro Tip: Sundays and holidays are free street parking in DTSJ. Conclusion: Tasty vegan eats, homebrewed suds, and all the fermented goods you can handle.

Everything is fresh, prices are reasonable, and the employees were all helpful. It's a thought space inside, but the lighting, and artwork is nice. Onion and tomato would be a nice addition to many of the dishes for flavor.
