Pranathi B. "I rarely go to a restaurant twice within a few months as we are spoilt for choices in the bayarea. But I had a hankering for the black pepper chowmein, so we made our way back here. In addition to the chowmein I also wanted to try some eggplant dish and we were suggested to get the basil eggplant. So here is the rundown of the dishes we tried this time- Black pepper chowmein- 5/5- I came back here just for this dish. It's really good. Definitely get this!!!Basil eggplant-5/5- another epic dish. Definitely ranks high on the best eggplant dishes I ever had. Not spicy but very savory without any sweet notes. It came with tofu as well which was equally delectable.Veggie fried rice- 4/5- delicious but very oily. There was no need for so much oil in this dish. Hopefully they take this feedback and work on improving it.Organic chicken salad- 4/5- my younger one wanted this. It came with a bunch of greens topped with lots of crispy wonton skins, fried "chicken" pieces and some dressing on the side. It was surprisingly good as the elements worked together cohesively.Vegetarian wonton with chilli oil- 4/5- another solid dish, the wontons were topped with some peanut sauce. It was a tad bit sweet, though I don't prefer sweetness in my savory dishes this was great as well. It's a very cosy little mom and pop style restaurant. I highly recommend giving them a try. I can assure you, you won't miss meat."

Denise D. "Have you ever been in a space where you are looking for something, but you can't quite put your finger on it? I came here on a random Thursday evening when San Jose Block Party was taking place. A friend told me he was going to have a pop up show, and remembering this was a place that always seemed to have great beers on tap, I threw on my Moms That Beer shirt, mustered up some energy for positivity, and arrived to Good Karma around 7:15 pm. I was immediately indecisive when I saw the beers on tap. Too many good choices, and the the first beer you pick to drink will generally set the feel of my drinking pace. Who was I tonight: Was I feeling like something outside of my comfort zone, or an agreeable hazy? Seeing the sour selection and hearing the beer tender talk to the customers in front of me, I decided to start with a Blueberry sour. And it did not disappoint. The Lysn Band started warming up, and it was to my dismay that outside seating was pretty full. But, what I did not expect was the warmth of the welcoming I received from 3 friends eating dinner and drinking beer who allowed me to join in their table, but also conversation. And just like that, I had 3 new friends, and soon a 4th, and I quickly realized, Good Karma is not just a restaurant. Good Karma is a living community of energy. Bob, the owner, cultivates a friendly staff, from the chef to the beer tender, and it attracts the type of people you want to get to know over a new beer. So, I came out that night without knowing what I wanted in that moment. What I found: great beers, yummy food, and community. But, one thing that always makes me happy: live music. So if your routine could benefit from more music, every Sunday at 7 pm, catch a live jazz session with the Sunday Messengers Quartet until 9 pm. A weekly dose of Jazz always does a body good."

I ordered the bánh canh, and when they brought it out something was off about it like the smell but I usually don't get vegetarian food so I'm not sure what it was. My friend ordered the thit kho. Everything was good until we got home and our stomachs were hurting. I'm not sure if it was our own individual meals.. I think so because I doubt it was the mushrooms. That said, here are somore things we have tried:Daal Makhni - it is a blend of three types of Lentils and they have Vegetarian and Vegan options. One of the wife's new favorites. Rich, creamy and delicious. Chicken or Shahi Goat Qorma - both are very good. My son got the chicken and I got the goat. The sauce is smooth and complex. A subtle spice profile that warms up in the mouth and has a bit of a kick. The dark green chutney makes it even warmer. The chicken is boneless. The goat is bone-in so you have some additional work there but a little bone adds to the flavor. We added the rice in to make sure we got every drop of the sauce. Pair it with the garlic Naan. The wife tried the Peshawari Chapel Kabab and was very happy with it. She explains it as a hamburger with extra spices. Ground beef, spices, served as a patty with a small salad. This expands on her usual Chicken Tikka Masaala entree. I am still partial to the Nihari (beef stew) but have also enjoyed the Chicken Biryani. It's all very good. Order with a cup of Chai or a Lassi. One note, don't come here expecting your food fast. Everything is done per order. This lets you customize your meal so you can get exactly what you want. It is absolutely worth the wait.Set aside some time and go with a friend. They started us off with some sort of celery soup with pumpkin seeds, which was good and kinda had the consistency of baby food. Then, I got to try the following:- Curried Cauliflower (4/5): The cauliflower is seasoned well and the red sauce paired with the cauliflower is great. - Mushroom Zeppole (4.5/5): The texture of the mushroom is amazing. I don't usually like mushrooms but this surprised me. The mayo aioli sauce paired well with the dish as well. - Spicy Yellow Curry (5/5): So good! It's not that spicy but it's packed with flavor. The portion was large as well. For drinks, I got a Strawberry Bloom Martini, which looked nice but was so strong on the alochol. It had a nice fruity aroma to it but I couldn't get past how strong and prominent the spirit was. For dessert, we ordered a Warm Chocolate Cake. The cake was a bit dry, probably due to lack of eggs. The ice cream was good and the chocolate avocado ganache and banana were delicious. We were trying to guess where the avocado was and could barely tell that it was part of the ganache! If you're looking for a vegan restaurant or just want to be surprised by how much flavor can be packed in a dish, I'd recommend this spot! The service was also good. Just a heads up that they do have a 4% charge for employee benefits but it is mentioned in fine print on their menu."

We picked Minako on a whim and started walking the two blocks.Minako is an adorable neighborhood place. If it was in my neighborhood, I'd be eating there all the time. But let me make this clear up front so you know what to expect- This isn't really a restaurant. It's more like a takeout food stand. They do have two small tables on the sidewalk, but that's it for seating. This is a mom and pop or maybe mom and daughter place. Front of house is handled by daughter Judy, who is friendly and charming. We did not meet mom, but she was in the kitchen. I lived for a time in Japan and the feel of this place is simply authentic. The menu is hand-written and the decor reminds me of those popup street stalls in Osaka. We both placed our orders for Chirashi with Judy at the counter and took a seat at one of the two sidewalk tables. We were served a little bowl of rice crackers, which was nice because we were hungry. Water was also provided and that was also a nice touch. ok, THE FOOD: This place leans on the authentic side with traditional sushi fare. If you're looking for your mayonnaise, cream cheese, or fried sushi, you will not find it here. We both ordered chirashi (a mix of fish in a bowl of rice), which is my favorite Japanese dish. It was ready in reasonable time and prepared simply, but perfectly, with delicious fresh tasting fish. I will point out that the serving size was smaller than I am used to for chirashi, but the price was also only $14. I'm used to paying $24 or more for chirashi, so I consider that it was good value despite the smaller size. I did round out my meal by ordering some tuna nigiri, which was also perfect. There were no other customers when we finished eating, so we chatted with Judy a bit. We talked about how it's getting hard to find good authentic and traditional sushi these days and she recommended a place called Sushi-Kei in Millbrae, which we will definitely check out. It turns out that her mom was also friends with Shimosan, who owned Shimo back in the day in the Richmond district on Clement. That was an amazing sushi place I used to go to a lot when I lived there. Small world.I think this place would benefit from upgrading their outdoor seating, which was a bit shabby. And if they can find the manpower, start a food truck. They are perfectly suited for that and there's good money in it. Overall, we had a lovely and pleasant lunch experience at Minako. It's very casual and also very charming. Do stop by if you're in the area.Jikai made!(Until next time!)"

Empanadas 9/10: We tried the vegan and beef empanadas and loved them both. Crisp exteriors paired with flavorful, juicy filling made these a great appetizer, though I wouldn't have minded eating a bunch as a meal. Cochinita Pibil 8/10: This slow-cooked pork dish is good and borders on a 9/10 with its appealing presentation, fall-apart pork, and cilantro rice. I wish the pork had been a little less greasy as the fat congealed on the bottom, but I really enjoyed it regardless. The pickled onions give a nice hit of acid. Served with Tajin dusted jicama and beans. Potato Croquettes 7/10: I really enjoyed these but the cranberries were wholly unnecessary. I love croquettes and cranberries, but not together. They added a sweetness that clashed with the wonderfully savory croquettes. It's plated with tomatoes that are dressed in a cheesy, almost mozzarella or burrata flavor profile. Easily a 8.5/10 if it weren't for the cranberries. Aqua Fresca (seasonal Dragonfruit) 8/10: On the sweeter side, but still a really tasty drink. Their agua Fresca flavor changes throughout the year. Vegan Cheesecake and churro were good. Our server heard that we were hoping for a churro with no cream and was able to get one for us (they are cream-filled by default). The world has come to you in the form of densely delicious carbohydrates and I hope you are ready for the bike ride you'll want to take after this authentic, filling meal. The Ma'lawah bar offers two main "tracks" for your culinary experience: either go with a wrap made with Ma'lawah - a greasy flat bread that is somewhat like an Indian paratha but made out of a flakier dough OR get the jachnun. Everything comes with two side salads. I tried the beets (yum) and the hummus (more lemony than I like, but that's just a regional preference). The wraps are filled with 4 different savory options with also a dessert menu with fillings like chocolate (it starts to take on a crepe vibe at that point). They are:-sabich-shakshuka- classic (boiled egg, tomato, spicy zhug)- pizza with vegan cheeseDid I mention that the whole place is vegan?Every meal is expensive but it is made from scratch by the owner, Doreet, a dynamic and warm hostess. Seating is indoor only and decor is very minimal: the food is the main attraction of the place. I will be so happy for you once you try it. Jachnun, which I didn't bother describing because you just have to taste it yourself, is often eaten on the Sabbath (Saturday) after cooking all night. It is paradoxically a slow-food and probably has no nutritional value. But it's really good and will keep you full for a while."
