It pairs really well with the various proteins and tofu.I definitely recommend loading up on the sliced beef, enoki, and the mochi tofu cakes! Soooo good. The veggies here were fresh and staff were frequently refilling ingredients too. It gets pretty busy around 6:30 PM, especially for takeout orders. This is a fun and customizable experience that I would recommend to anyone."

We are next door at pier 402 and I would come back for their HH. My tuna nicose salad had plenty of tuna and tasted fresh. The Paloma was fairly priced and was very effervescent. The only downfall was the ran out of bread bowl for their clam chowder and they served it with overly buttered sourdough slices. It was meh. It was a casual Saturday but enjoyed getting out and trying a new spot."

The staff were all very nice and attentive. I dined in on a Friday night and the ambiance was busy and lively. I noticed there was a lot of regulars dining in, always a good sign :-). For a sushi restaurant, I was impressed with their vegetarian options! They have vegetarian udon and 5 vegetarian rolls. Along with the traditional apps. -Edamame: salty and savory-Miso soup: delicious and actually hot! Perfect for a cold night-Seaweed salad: a good portion and nicely seasoned-Vege roll: the only difference between this roll and the caterpillar roll is the mango and portion size. The vege roll was perfect for me portion wise. The pickled veggies were delicious! Definitely recommend Shima Sushi!"

Their dim sum is high quality. Some of my favorites are the purple rice paper shrimp rolls, the salted egg custard lava steamed buns, and the Peking duck - it's literally the best around. The two locations in SF are very spacious. They have private rooms available for large parties and their venue is available for wedding banquets as well. Lots of tables and bright lighting, but don't be fooled, HL Peninsula is so popular that they are always busy, even on weekdays! Julie W. "Ambiance was great! Take out and ate at home :). They did add two huge lights and repainted the walls about a month ago in their dining room. It looks great individually but doesn't quite work. Maybe it's the paper table cloth. Tonight's to go dinner was very good. The crispy flounder fish was crisp when we got it home and there was enough sauce. The honey walnut prawns sauce wasn't as smooth & thin as it should be but the flavor was fine. I only ate one salt & pepper pork chop. My family demolished it and they loved it. Peking duck was perfect today, a little fatty, a little thin, buns were warmed, meat on some of the bones. The housin sauce & greens were good. I was very happy with this meal. We also went for dim sum. We arrived about noon on a Thursday. It was not super full. We marked our choices and they took about 15 minutes to come out. It was much fresher on this trip. I would come again."

While they were pre-ordered and picked up warm, the hargao was sitting in a pool of water (from the steaming?) and we're soggy. The egg tarts were also warm with a nice flaky crust. I found the filling to be on the sweeter side, not to my liking.Would I be back? Would try some of their other dim sum next time...and for a another refreshing milk tea.Situated at a production site. Kelsey X. "Food (4/5)Food was delicious! I would have liked a little more seasoning for my claypot rice however. It was a nice, comforting hearty meal. I've been here before and enjoyed the hamachi carpaccio too :)Price (4/5)On the pricier side. My gindara meshi/black cod small claypot rice was $37, my friend's tori soboro meshi/braised ground chicken small claypot rice was $26, and my other friend's tempura udon was $16 (this was the most fairly priced). Keep in mind that the dashi soup is an additional $2.5. We also ordered curry korokke ($10.5), which my friends enjoyed.Wait Time (4/5)Made a reservation several days in advance via Yelp for our party of three which was easy. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. We were told on arrival that our reservation was limited to 1.5hrs.One of my friends did have to wait a while for her udon while my and my other friend's meals were already arrived, so that was odd (I assume udon is usually quicker, but she did order the tempura udon?).Ambiance (5/5)Cozy interior, about 10+ tables for parties of 2-4, and three larger tables for parties of 4+ with tatami seating. It was pretty warm inside.Service (4/5)Everyone was pleasant and nice but it did take us a while to flag someone down when we were trying to ask about my friend's late dish. It also did take a while for us to get the check. No other concerns.Parking/Access (5/5)Located in a strip mall, there's plenty of parking available with no time limits. Most of the other businesses are closed for dinner time at least (the pool shop, key shop, FedEx). Lots of foodies have reviewed this place on their reels and I'm always wary of that but it looked intriguing enough so decided to give it a try.I ordered the Sushi Alambre and Mar Y Tierra (Surf & Turf) Taco. The sushi itself was definitely Instagram worthy, looks amazing and was GOOD but the bite became way too rich after a couple rolls. It basically was a deep fried rice roll (with some shrimp) with carne asada on top with two types of sauces. It's definitely worth a try, and I'd recommend that you get it to share as an appetizer! The Mar Y Tierra Taco isn't on the menu but it features a generously sized tortilla with melted cheese, shrimp, carne asada, and generous serving of avocado. This taco was really flavorful...I enjoyed it more than the sushi. If you forget the name, just call it the "Instagram Taco" and they'll know...it's featured on their reels alot.Other notes - complimentary chips and salsa were a nice touch...this was very delicious! No liquor license, so they don't serve alcohol yet but it sounded like they will in the future. Service was great, no complaints there. Very limited parking in the lot, but you can find street parking if spaces aren't available.Overall, I'll give it a very solid 4. I enjoyed the food and ambiance enough and if I'm in the area, I would definitely consider eating there again. Teresa C. "Came in with positive expectations that this place will deliver food similar to Portugal. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience was so-so. We were seated quickly after entering since we had a reservation. On a Friday, on Valentine's Day, the dining if room was at 60% capacity when we were seated. It took a while before someone came to fill our waters and ask us if we had questions about our menu. When we finally ordered, the food was churned out very quickly... pretty much all at once with the exception of Bacalhau à Brás (which came out when the rest of our food was done). So pacing of the meal felt rushed. Food: in general, all the food came out room temperature. This tells me that the food was cooked and was sitting on the counter for a while before it was brought to the table. Not sure why because the restaurant wasn't at full capacity yet. Flavors of each item was good. Vegetables had a good char to them. Beef tongue was tender. Dislikes: The Chouriço was burnt. Since the sausage was already cooked, and the flame was for show, I was surprised to see that the ends of sausage end was blackened when it came out. The Bacalhau à Brás was way too salty. And it came out at the very end of the meal. The rest of our dishes had already cleared. The pastel de nata could be warmed up a touch. That would have made a huge difference. Service: not attentive. I felt like where we sat, it was difficult to get the attention of the server. We asked one server who took our order for dessert, for the check two times. Never brought us the check. Asked another server who cleared our dishes away...we also asked him several times for the check. Overall: a cute place for date night. Justin Bieber, Serena Williams, Jeremy Lin, The Bush family, also apparently Margaret Thatcher ate here (damn, she ate this food and still managed to destroy UK's industry? hey-ooo)I was afraid that this restaurant was going to be too westernized, but I think they do a good job of striking a balance between western and Chinese authentic taste. Most of the food was delicious, though the Mongolian Beef didn't taste that great. That's usually one of my go-tos when trying to determine a Chinese restaurant's chops.Parking can be challenging though they have additional parking at a private lot down the neighborhood road and is a mild walk to and from the restaurant. It's a 3.5 but rounded down for me, the service was kinda meh and all the seating arrangements were very tight and crammed."

Every time I come here, I know I'm getting bold flavors, generous portions, and consistently good food. Some of my go-to dishes are the cumin lamb, which is perfectly seasoned and packed with spice, the walnut shrimp that's crispy, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet, and the hot & sour soup that's always on point--tangy, spicy, and comforting. The sautéed green beans are a simple but solid side, and the salt & pepper fish is light, crispy, and full of flavor.Beyond my favorites, I've seen a lot of love for the orange chicken, and even the complimentary Chinese tea gets a mention in reviews. The food is always solid, but the service can be hit or miss--it's fast and efficient, but don't expect a ton of warmth. The place gets busy, so timing your visit can make a difference. Linh N. "Final Thoughts: 4.48/5Dim sum for lunch with my friends after my 8-hour shift feels very rewarding. For this place, their dim sum menu is only available until 2:30pm, so just a caution with the time. We came at about 1:30pm and I had quite the pleasant experience from food to service. Food:1. Shrimp Dumpling (Har Gow): 4.4/5The texture of the har gow is to my preference - Optimal balance of softness, thickness, and chewiness. Filling was also optimal for all 4 that were provided. The shrimps are nicely cooked and well-seasoned. Texture of the shrimps were crunchy and I enjoyed it. I did dip this one in soy sauce, but it could have sufficed even without the extra seasoning.2. Siu Mai: 4.6/5My personal favorite item was this item. Four are provided to you. Size, temperature, and flavor were all very nicely done today. Each item actually came out piping hot, so please don't burn yourself. Texture wise, there's a nice crunch from the shrimp mixed with the pork. I split mine in half to cool it off and get a cross section. Optimal amounts of both proteins are provided. Flavor wise - Delightful. I love the balances of salty, sweet, and some umami from the sauce and fish roe. 3. Steamed BBQ Pork Buns: 4.1/5Seems to be your average buns. They came out nice and hot. Dough itself was still very fluffy with a good ratio of dough to filling. The meat was the standard red color. Flavor was also quite standard - well-seasoning with what I believe tasted like oyster sauce, soy sauce, and sugar. 4. Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll: 4.1/5Texture of the rice noodle rolls were nice and thin. Good chewiness and softness with some body to hold its shape. Ratio of the rice noodle and shrimp was alright. The shrimps are plump, but they are smaller in size than other places that I have tried. Light seasonings and balanced flavors overall. The sweet soy sauce has a nice umami and sweetness to it that just compliments this dish. 5. Pan Fried Green Onion Pancake: 4.0/5Very crispy pancake with some subtle flavors from the green onion. Lovely golden brown exterior. The outside texture is very crispy and the inside has the slightest bit of chew and pull to it from all the flattened out layers. Nothing too extravagant about this item, but it did pair well with a protein.6. XO Sauce Stir-Fried Rice Rolls: 3.9/5This dish always needs some kind of a protein to it because it's just rice rolls. There wasn't a significant amount that contribute to it, but I appreciate the shredded meat provided between the rolls. Personal preference, but I enjoyed the thickness of these rolls. They seem quite thick, but pair well with a protein. Nice spice and flavor from the jalapenos. Regarding flavor, some more flavoring would've elevated it. The sauce has a lighter taste to it that seemed to only be on the outside charring layer of the rice rolls.7. Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet: 4.2/5Definitely the protein that helped elevate the rice paper dish. Both paired fairly well together. Nice flavor of salt. I think I would have preferred a strong scent of the black pepper, but it was still good. They came out nice and crispy. Texture wise - Optimal. Slight crisp exterior and the interior was cooked to perfection. Not dry and just breaks apart with a soft interior.---------Quality: Fair All food items were good overall. Temperatures were desirable and very palatable. My two notes would be the shrimps used and BBQ buns. One of the buns had a crack running through the top, and I usually see that with frozen, thawed, and reheated buns. The shrimps aren't the biggest concern, but the size is smaller than others that I am used to. Price: Fair Between the three of us, we paid about $21 each, which I deem a fair price for what we got. Considering we got 7 items and still had leftovers afterwards - Ideal for a simple, but nice lunch date out. They have a variety of items from dim sum to kitchen menu items, so the price will range and vary depending on what you get. Service: Very efficientThe waiters and waitresses here took no time in seating us, checking in on us, and managing each table. They checked on us multiple times and there always seemed to be someone overlooking the tables. Each time we made a movement to signal for something/someone, they were usually already on their way over to us.Ambiance: TranquilSeems like a very nice and quiet area. The interior is quite large and did get a little drafty, but that wasn't too big of a concern here. We were seated at a large table and ended up huddling together to one side. Tables and space seemed fairly parted, so we were able to enjoy our lunch and talk comfortably even in the quiet space.Location/Parking: Fair to optimalThis place seems to be your average dim sum restaurant. The plaza is not one that I visit often. There are a variety of different stores presented here. Parking doesn't seem to be a concern at all. Some traffic is seen, but there were many spots available to us, nonetheless."

I saw that another reviewer complained that they couldn't order it medium rare, but come on, it's a Smashburger, you don't cook those medium rare. This one was incredibly juicy, and the quality of the meat was top notch. For the wine we started with a couple glasses of the La Rinconada Vineyard Chardonnay, which was flavorful and well balanced, followed by a luscious bottle of the Gary's Vineyard Pinot Noir. The bottles are just a $20 uplift to enjoy with your dinner, and if you are in the wine club you get the membership pricing. Very reasonable. Since they're basically competing with a few other very popular restaurants and they all share the same parking area.I N S I D EThere are bbq grilling stations with the exhaust right above the tables if you're going to to do that. But it's a spacious restaurant. Just be forewarned, you will smell like food. M E N UMenu hasn't changed in the years but of course the prices have. Darn inflation. The food quality seems to go up and down. Compared to the last time we had seafood pancake here, it seems like we're back on the up.I don't think you can go wrong here, everything is really good. The ban chan also the most diverse I've seen though I wish they had jap chae as a ban chan. The dumpling tofu soup was delicious especially on a cold day. Definitely cleans up your sinuses. The spicy pork was the right amount of spicy and I did appreciate that the pieces were minced as I have issues chewing these days. The LA Galbi was fine. I didn't concentrate on eating that as we were more focused on the more spicy items as our other family members don't particularly like spicy foods.S E R V I C EService was good. Though we did end up having to ask about our Seafood pancake as we were eating everything else that was ordered and it was yet to come. I guess it takes a bit of time. I do wish they had more napkins on the table outside of the one they give you. I guess we could ask for more which we did and they did give it to us. I forgot that they used to give a yogurt drink at the end of meals and they don't do that any more. Bummer.O V E R A L LThe prices are a bit shocking to be honest, but you get a lot of food. It was nice to eat inside though I did smell delicious in the end. Lots of variety and there's something for everyone. Definitely check them out!"

Tony D. "Probably my favorite breakfast/brunch place in San Jose. Anything you order is going to be great, so feel free to try different things. Large menu. Personal preference for the Banana Foster French toast. Decadent. Bonus if you get Lennon as a server, he is friendly and attentive."
