Always responsive and always creative!. I have been using the Cake Gallery for years. They were one of the first places I had doing face cakes for me. Now they have even more great stuff and they deliver downtown SF!!

I really wanted to give them a good review but unfortunately things had gone wrong too much... our friends who ate the cake got the same opinion.If I knew the photo on the cake was going to be "green", I would have ordered something else perhaps a 3D cartoon cake. See attached photos.Anyways, I was hoping the quality of the cake could have made up for the photo flaws. We ordered a banana nuts cake with vanilla buttecream and fresh strawberries. First I got a call from the owner said she didn't have nuts for our cake (it's easy to grab a small bag of mixed nuts at almost anywhere). Then the cake itself was more like "banana bread" which is very thick and heavy rather than soft and fluffy. The cream and the icing tasted mostly sugar instead of buttercream. It's not worth $45. I should have just got a regular birthday cake at a local Safeway.This place doesn't work for me. I can't recommend them to anyone.

Had a couple good runs with this place back in 2021. Beautiful and delicious cakes. I've tried to place an order since March of 2022 but I get the same (auto?) response."Sorry, we aren't able to fulfill any orders this week. We are in the process of moving to a new location. We've unfortunately run into an unexpected, unforeseen glitch. The new place was not ready on our expected move in day, so our move has been delayed for a few more days."Hopefully they are up and running soon....

I have ordered from Cake Gallery at least four times now and the service has been impeccable. I usually order through email, but when I need something within the same week, I usually try to give a call to see if they aren't too busy. I haven't had any issues so far and they always do their best to accommodate my order in such short notice! In fact, I just ordered one last week for my best friend's birthday and it turned out great. I remember my first time ordering with them, I wanted a similar design to a cake I saw on their Yelp photos (it was a picture of I believe Johnny Depp with a thought bubble and a person in it like he got her on his mind, lol). When the delivery came, I noticed something was not quite right. Instead of having Trey Songz in the background, it was Johnny Depp (as shown on the Yelp photo). It was a funny mistake, one that I didn't mind, but of course, I wanted what I had asked for. The man who delivered the cake apologized and said that he would come back later with the right cake. And he did! What I really love about this place is the FREE delivery within SF. This really makes my life so much easier.Their cakes are reasonably priced, especially for custom cakes/photo printed cakes. To order, you to send an order form via email with everything you want and they'll confirm with you. They're pretty quick with replies.Highly recommend them for special occasions!

I have ordered from the Cake Gallery on multiple occasions, as they have the most unique cakes. They have been in the same location for many years, I always drove by and never stopped until I needed a special cake made for me. They are known in SF as being the XXX rated cake store where you can score a bachelor/bachelorette cake to make your momma blush. No, I have not ordered one of those yet, but you know where to go. The cakes I ordered were ordered over the phone or by email. The first cake was a Baby Shower Sailor theme with red velvet and cream cheese frosting. I emailed over the picture of the cake and they copied it identically. The next cake I ordered was a unicorn cake for my little sister. I called looking for a cake within 24 hours with a unicorn on it. They even delivered it for free in SF. It was a hard to find and very specific chocolate cake with strawberry filling and a unicorn design. As you can see from my pictures, they did an awesome job and my family was impressed.The Cake Gallery is the place you go to when you don't want just an average cake, they are artists and will make anything you want.

This "butter"cream frosting needs another trip to the dairy...The good: The chocolate sponge was moist and flavorful.Decoration/writing (standard birthday cake stuff) was decently executed.The bad: This is not good, rich buttercream. It is, in fact, bad frosting. It's too light, it's too glossy, it's too sticky, it's too full of air bubbles, and it's simultaneously flavorless while exhibiting a faintly sickly scent of marshmallows. It's comparable to the whipped topping on a mass-market ice cream cake or the icing on those big chain-store sheet cakes - you know the ones, quantity over quality with the blue food coloring that stains literally everything. If a cow played any part in making this stuff, I'd be utterly (udderly?) shocked. The ugly:Assuming it had to be a mistake and someone had swapped in a whipped frosting when we had so very definitively ordered buttercream, my better half called the bakery asking if we could switch the cake for one with correct frosting. They assured us they only make the one kind, it's buttercream, and the birthday boy must be stupid for not loving it. Complete meltdown ensued, and they "made it right" by hanging up on us. This place will not be getting a second chance to disappoint, and the garbage can will be getting the other 6/8 of this disappointment of a cake. What a waste of $40.

Family and I used to get our cakes from here for every occasion that required one. Their cakes are delicious best buttercream ever! Service is fast and great and ambiance would blow your mind too bad they're closed now

This review is overdue... but better late than never. No cake is impossible here. If you're in a pinch and looking for something custom, The Cake Gallery could do it. They're professional, affordable and deliver in SF. That said. if you're not into super sweet cakes, then this is not a good option for you.

This is why I love San Francisco. The best cake for a celebration or any event you want to let your flag fly! Not to mention they are all really nice and want you to enjoy your creation.
