I had about 3 weeks to pull together a last minute January company holiday party. I was given an OK budget to work with, about $100 per person, F&B. I reached out to several Bay Area caterers who laughed me off instead of even attempting to work with me. Not Mike and Sunset29 though. I reached out with a tentative menu, he gave me a follow up call right away, and immediately I knew I was working with a great company. We discussed logistics, he sent the proposal, I sent a deposit, and got to feel at ease until party time.Day of the party arrives and Mike and his crew are prompt and communicative while I'm running around trying to get everything else in order. The party was held at a house on a steep hill with a winding staircase, but the crew lugged everything up just fine. Mike even brought chafing dishes so that the food could be elevated and nicely presented to guests. It worked out perfectly. I wish I had taken a proper photo but we had to keep the food covered and warm for a little while before serving. By the time we did, everyone descended upon it.The food was AMAZING!!! We had tri-tip, chicken, pulled pork, mac and cheese, beans, their famous mushrooms, Hawaiian rolls, and two generous garden salads. The portions for 25 were more than enough, but the party ended up being at least 40+ people cycling through as it turned into a bash. Still, we were all able to chow down with plenty for everyone. Once a tray was emptied, leaving guests filled them up with leftovers. Sunset29 left a few business cards next to the food and I eventually ran out of them.It was a great success and I couldn't have been happier with the communication, food, and price. Mike and his crew really cared and it showed. 10000+ million stars!

If there was one more star for purchase, I'd spend the money. A guy named Mike was at Golden Gate Park today, for an event called Old Cars Picnic. I showed up with my daughter who was meeting up with her friend, where this guy Mike was wearing a Sunset 29 shirt, but LOOKING like a SF Giants shirt.....he's working like a work-horse over the hot BBQ grill, and THEN, just as my stomach finishes a growl and I shoot out a prayer that someone has some snacks....he starts walking around with this PRIMO grade beef, sliced and hot, handing them to absolutely everyone within 20 feet of him. He didn't even ask if I was part of his friends party....just walked over and fed me, repeatedly. and not a hot dog. The best beef, expertly BBQ'd, proudly presented, and I'd follow this guy to dinner every day if he lived by me!! Go get some, you won't be sorry!! Thank you Mike!!

Worked with Sunset29 BBQ to cater a volunteer appreciation event of 90+ people last year. The food was so delicious that people are still talking about it! Everything was fresh and tasty. I was impressed that the chicken was cooked perfectly which can be difficult to do for such a large crowd. Staff are super friendly and easy to work with. They were on time and so kind to our volunteers and staff! I definitely recommend using them for your next event, big or small!

Once upon a time someone decided to delve into the BBQ business. He started with his tri-tip years ago for a small crowd, and it was a HIT!!! From there he went on to other meats and side dishes. Perfecting his special seasonings, his trial crowds became once a month crowds and now catering to special events! What makes his BBQ so delicious it that it's all about perfecting the flavors and textures. It's MEAT WITH FLAVOR AND NOT FLAVOR WITH MEAT. Everything is always soooo juicy and flavorful. He truly puts a ton of hard work and effort to cater to your preferences/needs. He also caters to vegetarians and vegans. I've never been a huge BBQ meat fan but this one got me hooked. I hired Mike and his Sunset 29 crew for a company event, and it could not have gone better! Mike was a great communicator leading up to the event. At the event, he and his team set up their booth in record time and happily began feeding my own crew before the event started (that made very happy crew members!). Our event had a least 700 people milling about, and Sunset 29's speed in delivering meals was lightning fast. All my guests had great things to say about his food. I had the smoked tofu, shrooms, and my coworker enjoyed the tri tip sliders. Every taste was divine! We will invite them again!

We were so lucky to have SUNSET29 BBQ cater our school's last day before winter break, and I have to say it did not disappoint. The spices are magically elaborate, the meat is perfectly tender and the sides are perfectly matched. My only disappointment is I didn't know about them sooner!!!!! I was at a party the other day and I saw some barbecue on the serving table. First thing I'd like to say is that I'm very particular about my barbecue since I've been cooking for over 35 years and I've won the Reno chili and barbecue championship twice. That being said walked on over and took a look it was to be offered on the table. My first land said this looks pretty darn good and the aroma was as good as my visual was. So I said hey. I'm really not that hungry but this stuff looks pretty good so I should probably give it a try or regret not eating it later. I grabbed the plate and serve myself up some ribs, pulled pork, sausages, potato salad, and something that was called." signature slaw.". I've been myself a nice quiet place to enjoy the food as I hate eating and be bothered by people yakking in my ear things I really don't care about. I slowly started digging in to the items on the plate and was blown away by how savory and perfectly cooked, the meats were. As I said, before I have one competitions on a high level regarding barbecue. I've also eaten some of the greatest BBQ places in the country, including Franklins in Austin and dearly every BBQ in Kansas City and Memphis. Despite being with some people may call a BBQ snob, this food was absolutely off the hook. When they said signature slaw, they weren't kidding. It was the tastiest coleslaw I've ever had my life! As for the meats, They were perfectly smoked, cooked and flavored. I later found out the Pitmasters name was Mike Marcal. He got into barbecuing with the same passion that I did when I started. He uses the finest products and doesn't over complicate the process. That is a true sign of a great BBQ pit master. I would tell anybody who sees an event that he is cooking at, not to miss it! I went home later that night dreaming of the delicious BBQ the deer prepared and hopefully on my next trip to this area, I will have the chance to enjoy his expertise and cooking again!!! One last thing is, I also found out that he supports many local causes are close to his heart in the area he lives in. A guy who can vines that type of love for his hometown and his food can't be beat!! Unfortunately Yelp only lets me give him five stars, if I had my way, I'd give him 10!!
