Come here for a no frills lunch or dinner. Big portions and fast service. Our family lives to get take out or dine in restaurant. Our go to is always the roast pork and ox tail. You get a side of house soup, pan fried dumpling your entree and fruit as dessert. The roast pork comes in a generous portion with orange sauce, its tender come with a heap of rice to soak up the sauce. The staff speak English and Cantonese and are happy to help you.

Came here during the new years parade in Chinatown and was recommended to dine here. Although a lot of spots were busy, this spot only had about a quarter or maybe half so it was pleasing to see ordering probably won't take too long or so I thought. It'll be cheaper to dine here if you brought cash on you!Service: the lady who took our order was the sweetest however the wait times for to-go orders was wild. I saw 5 people come in and out after us dining in. It took 40 minutes for them to give us our 2 plates of food. If you order to-go, be ready to not be priority even if the place isn't that busy. It's faster to dine-in than to-go, you'll save a lot of time. Ambiance: it's a hole in the wall spot next to an alley. It's small inside but it's a comforting Asian spotSalt and pepper wings $10 (4/5): These were solid, it's a classic appetizer at any Chinese restaurant. Don't exactly remember how many wings there were (6 pieces?) but they were decently sized and enough to fill meSoup: Looks like all meals come with a complimentary free soup. It was a nice meal cleanser, it's bland but it does the job tasting very healthy.Honestly it's shocking to watch multiple people come in, eat, paid, then walk out after 40 minutes of waiting for pick up order of only 2 dishes. I'd probably come back to dine in and try their popular dish but yea won't be doing to-go orders from now on

I come here every chance I get when in San Francisco. No restaurant makes the comfort food of curry lamb like here.I can't believe the restaurant was not too busy around noonish today.Maybe it's me but I thought the portion was getting smaller but then I say that all the time, lol.I can't believe this restaurant has been here for over 60 years. The layout has changed over the years and they used to also serve great apple pie and custard pie, but that's dating myself.

This spot is a true classic hole in the wall restaurant in Chinatown that's been around for years. I've been a regular since my teenage years and my go-to order has always been their roast pork with spaghetti. The roast pork is incredibly tender and packed with flavor. Every meal also starts with a single potsticker and a small bowl of soup, which sets the perfect tone. Their homemade potstickers are also absolutely delicious that I ordered one order to share with my brother before. With generous portion sizes, I always leave this place with a satisfied and contented stomach. Service is all around standard as well, but service can get slow when the restaurant gets busy. There's only two ladies working - one in the front of the house and one in the back of the house. They also used to be cash only, but they've started accepting card payments with a $20 minimum.

Definitely one of the best potstickers I've had. Very meaty filling. Tastes different than a traditional potsticker in a great way. It is a bit doughy at the top, but not a big deal. The roasted pork here is surprising extremely moist and tender. I would come back here. I'm looking forward to their other dishes.

Wow!! My fiancé has always raved about this spot and I finally had the opportunity to come try this gem for myself. We both ordered the combo with roast pork and corned beef which also comes with a bowl of soup, a dumpling & a can of soda. I believe they offer the $15 lunch combo that they were offering during SF Restaurant Week as a regular item now.The portions are huge, I couldn't finish my plate and actually had enough for another meal. The dumpling was big, juicy and flavorful! I believe they make the dumplings in house as well. The bitter melon soup is similar to the type of 老火湯 you can expect from your grandma or mom! Overall the food was flavorful but not overly salty & for $15 the lunch combo is a steal! Highly recommend to come and try at least one and support a small local business. Cant wait to come back and try other dishes!

Great place for Chinese pork chops! Huge portions and super tasty. Do note that if you come during a hot day, expect to sweat a lot since there was no AC when we went. Roasted pork with gravy - 4.5/5, a mixture of dry and tender pork chops doused in some sort of gravy, comes with rice and some veggies. The tender parts of the pork were delicious, while the dry parts were a bit too dry. The gravy isn't too salty but definitely flavorful. Ox tail with bean curd - 4/5, a few pieces of meaty ox tail with bean curd. Also topped with gravy and comes with rice. The meat is also tender, and the sauce is just right. Bean curds are soft and soaked up the sauce. They gave us 2 big potstickers with the dishes, which was pretty tasty.

Wow! Best pork fried rice ever - so moist and flavorful! The Japanese ramen was incredible. So good. We also loved the veggie chow mein and the beef with broccoli. Every single dish was a winner and everything tasted fresh and not heavy. Our server was so friendly. Ambience perfect for a small Chinese restaurant. Simple and cute. Truly some of the best I've had in SF.

As fantastic as it has been to see the likes of China Live, Empress by Boon, and Mister Jiu's open up in Chinatown over the years, it's equally sad to see the number of long-standing eateries in the neighborhood dwindle. Every time one folds, it makes me feel increasingly appreciative of the places that are still around, especially those that my relatives used to frequent. Given that, I don't know which is worse - that I'd never checked out New Lun Ting up until about eight years ago or that it took me about eight years (and a few more recent visits) to finally write this. Either way, it's safe to say I'm just a smidge late to the party on both counts...While the signage above the door lists that they've been around since 1909, I assume that refers to when the original Lun Ting opened, as the current one opened up in the 1930's or so. Regardless, it's safe to say that New Lun Ting have served generations of families over the last 90+ years they've been around. They even still have one of their old dining counters from when the majority of customers were bachelors and male diners who worked here while their families were back in China. Perhaps somewhat as a result, the menu is a bit like a greasy diner, with options ranging from typical Cantonese dishes to more American/Western offerings at fairly budget friendly prices.-- POTSTICKER APPETIZERI believe this, and a bowl of their house soup, comes included with every dish and it's actually pretty good. The skin isn't overly thick, the filling is relatively juicy, and, surprisingly, it's not one of those generic frozen types you see at Asian markets. That said, it does feel like they've gotten smaller over time.-- ROAST PORKTheir nickname may be "pork chop house", but this is essentially their signature dish. The chunks of pork are quite moist, even without the house gravy that's slathered all over it, fairly well seasoned, and is served in a rather generous portion.-- PRIME RIBI wasn't sure what to expect, but this was actually pretty decent. Although it wasn't the prettiest cut, the roast beef was fairly tender, cooked reasonably well, and had a nice bit of seasoning to it. HoPR has no reason to be scared, but this wasn't bad for the money/Chinatown.As is the stereotype for Chinese businesses, service here is nothing to write home about, but it's certainly far from rude or gruff. The worker who takes orders may not be the warmest, but she's friendly enough. The one thing I didn't love, though, was how one of the menu pages showed the combo meal option that we ordered included a can of soda, but ended up being an added charge on our bill. Apparently we either didn't order the right dish to get the deal or that it's no longer offered (it's listed as a special for 2023), but it didn't seem worth it to make an issue over a $2 can of Diet Coke.Beyond the issue with the menu, pretty much everything else about our experiences here have been perfectly fine. However, I feel like the food here isn't quite as good as it was eight years ago. Specifically, I remember being more enamored with the roast pork the first couple of times I had it, but that just might have more to do with the cuts of pork the last couple of times I was here. The most recent time I had it, for example, there were several pieces that were made up entirely of fat. As such, despite how much I want to give this place four stars, they're closer to a three at this point. That said, I still planning on making more trips here in the future. Hopefully, things will improve enough for me to change that, but really, I just want to see New Lun Ting stick around for many more generations to come! For now, THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down.

I came to Chinatown after my job interview in Financial District. I was wondering which restaurant to go. I randomly asked someone, was told to go to New Lun Ting Cafe. It has been around for over 100 years. Their signature dish is pork chop. After I read some Yelp reviews, decided to give it a try. YES! It was indeed delicious! Strongly recommend it.The lady owner was very kind. Before I Ieft, she offered me a free cold soda to go because of the hot weather. 92 degrees on that day. I declined as I don't drink sodas. Then she offered again--a cool bottle water which was very nice of her.
