I'm not Chinese but I grew up in a multicultural SEA country. Service: I thought the service was fine. The lady behind the counter was not friendly but she wasn't rude to me. This is the norm though, for hole in the wall Chinese places. I knew what I wanted ahead of time.Food: Maybe I got a bad batch of the scallion bread but I thought it was just ok. The bread to scallion ratio is too high. I've had better ones in the Richmond neighborhood. Pineapple bun was also mid, I've had better. The baked bbq pork bun was really good !! Price: Really cheap! $9.50 for 3 scallion bread, 1 pork bun and 1 pineapple bun.

Despite its name, this bakery and restaurant is located in San Francisco's Chinatown. However, Hollywood stars might enjoy its baked goods and lunch fare! It's been a while since I stopped by this bakery. We were in Chinatown and my dad suggested getting some egg tarts. This is the only place I know of that sells egg tarts with cookie crust vs. flaky crust. +Crunchy tart shell: Not the flaky version+Custard was creamy, eggy, and milky-Egg tarts were cold-Custard was on the sweeter sideSide notes:1.) Cash only2.) Egg tarts were $1.50 each or $4.00 for 3.3.) Limited street parking*Verdict: No frills café with budget friendly eats and quick service. I'd like to return to try more of their baked goods as well as their drinks and lunch plates.

New Hollywood is a neighborhood staple. I can count on them to open early and have freshly baked bread. It's definitely a locals bakery where people eat and drink coffee and hang around. I usually order cocktail buns and onion bread and my parents love their coffee Swiss rolls. We actually ordered pastries for our wedding here and they had everything ready and fresh on the day of. We ordered egg tarts and cocktail buns and they were a hit. This is a cash only place and the workers are always quick to help you out!

Stumbled across this bakery and restaurant while walking. Restaurant is small and does not look its best but their food is good. They have baked goods and serve noodles and rice dishes. Ordered wonton soup and silky eggs with shrimp over rice. Wonton soup was very good. The flavors were just right. Not too salty. Soup came with Yau Choy as well. It was the right balance. Silky eggs with shrimp over rice. Felt like the rice was a day old and it is for fried rice. I ask for extra egg but it doesn't seem like they added it. If only there were more of the silky eggs, this dish would be perfect. Overall I enjoyed the food and would come back and try other dishes and baked goods here

They close at 6 pm on Saturday. I needed a place to hang out to get somewhere. The lady cashiering is super nice. She knows all her customers by sight. This is what community is. You get to know your customers. A guy came in with his elderly father, and she recognized him. She said you used to come and sit over at that corner. Very cool. I enjoyed my Hong Kong tea and egg tart. Their egg tart has a strange fluorescent color, but the shell is a thin cookie shell. It was delicious. It went well with the tea.

Sorry, I forgot to take photos.I had this bookmarked as a place for great pork buns. (they were okay) - but what I loved were these 2 flat chewy pancake things in the case, one custard, one was beans. Chewy kinda like mochi. I can't even imagine how good they would be warm.

The restaurant was full at lunchtime on a Monday. There was a short wait before I was seated. I ordered a wonton soup $8 and a crispy tomato beef noodles $13.75. It took about five minutes for the soup to come out and another 15 minutes for the crispy noodles to arrive. The wontons were tasty with pieces of minced meat and shrimp. As for the crispy noodles, the chef messed it up. I asked for less sauce and it came out smothered. Most of the noodles were already soggy. There's no sense in ordering crispy noodles if the chef is going to do that. There's only one waitress for the entire restaurant. Service is slow but I don't blame her. Pro tip, the restroom key is tied to a tin can on the bakery counter.

If you speak Cantonese they are friendly toward you and help you if you don't or even though you speak Mandarin language, they ignore you or do not help even yell at you.

Got 3 different bakery items from a popular bakery in Chinatown.Scallion Roll (A) - These rolls were excellent. They have good texture with both fluffiness and smoothness (from scallion oil) and defined texture. There was good scallion flavor and it was elevated by sprinkles of salt to really draw out the flavor, yet the bread is still initially sweet to create a nice contrast.Pork Sung Bao (B) - This is unfortunately 95% bao and 5% pork sung which makes the ratio very off. I think it is better to simply charge more and make the bun a correct ratio, but the flavors of the bun are authentic and on point.Egg Tart (B) - This version of the egg tart had a flaky crust instead of a crispy crust; it also looks good, but I think the flavors are a bit muted.Overall, really solid set of dim sum, I think I bought 3 egg tarts, 2 scallion rolls, and the pork sung bao for just $7.35 (cash only).

Yelp led me here - there were more people than other places and most people looked like they were eating won ton noodle soup which was a good sign. However, I wanted fish ball rice noodles and they delivered. The cafe was clean and well lit, which let's be honest, can be a hit or miss with some Chinese restaurants. My fish ball and fish cake rice noodles came out piping hot, fish balls were nice and crunchy, sliced fish cake was chewy and noodles were perfectly cooked. This was comfort food for me. They had lots of Cantonese baked goodies and I ordered baked BBQ baked buns, egg custard tarts and pineapple buns to bring home as snacks for SO. The servings were American sized (big) so it was a good value for the money.I really enjoyed New Hollywood Bakery & Restaurant. The servers were friendly and helpful and the food was solid. They are cash only and a good value, so I'm definitely coming back when I'm in the area.
