Cake pops are the rave these days. Being the skeptic that I am, I was reluctant to try these lovely beauties. The reviews for Kathy's Kakes were few yet good so I decided to take the plunge. What was your first time like? Your first time eating cake pops, of course! What did you think I meant? LOL. I emailed Kathy and asked for 1/2 dozen red velvet and 1/2 dozen white pops. She was kind enough to oblige and we scheduled my pickup for this past Tuesday. Her mother gave me the box and opened it so I could sneak a peak inside. It was lovely. 12 gorgeous cake pops laid out neatly in two rows and presented in a lovely box. They looked too good to eat. When I finally tasted them, I was pleasantly surprised. Here I was...a cake pop virgin...so I didn't know exactly what to expect. They were beautiful yet the outer coating of the cake pop made me think they might be too sweet. I was incorrect. The frosting on the outside is just the perfect amount of sweetness to counter the cake inside. The cake inside was moist and had just the right texture. It wasn't fluffy but it wasn't thick and dense either. Like I said, just the perfect balance. Each pop was covered by a clear plastic with a little wrapping twist and it was neatly organized in small box. These would make lovely gifts! Thank you, Kathy for making such a lovely product. I really enjoyed them.

Thanks to yelp, I found Kathy when searching for a place that makes great cake pops!Kathy, thank you so much for making such amazing cake pops for my friends bachelorette and birthday weekend! We all loved them (and wish I had ordered even more haha)!!!What I loved:- she responded to my inquiry right away- she was super helpful in designing the exact cake pops that I envisioned - she was able to get all of my detailed cake pops done on the day I needed them- the cake pops were not only super cute but SO yummy!!! and so fresh! - the cake pops didn't lose their shape after being in a warm and long card ride. - she runs a small business (I love supporting small businesses)! I will definitely contact Kathy again when needing cake pops in the future and highly suggest you do the same!

Big "thank you" to Kathy for making my cakepops for my birthday on such a short notice! They came out to be perfect - EXACTLY the way I imagined/wanted!I looked up a lot of the custom cake places for my birthday cake 4 days before my birthday party. (I know, it's my fault for giving such a short notice, because it's wedding season, a lot of the places don't take appointments now.) Through yelp, I found Kathy's kakes - I read through a few reviews and looked through a few pictures, and decided to give Kathy a call. I wanted 2 dozens cake pops, both with swirls on top. 1 dozen tiffany blue color base with white swirl - raspberry lemon. 1 dozen white color base with tiffany blue swirl - red velvet. I put in the order, and picked all of them up on Saturday (2 days later). They looked absolutely amazing! I couldn't believe it! I'm very particular with things I want/like and I was so stunned when I opened the box and saw the beautiful cakepops. My party was on Sunday (1day after). The cakepops were moist and delicious. They were individually wrapped and boxed together. All my guests loved it, especially the red velvet ones! It was definitely one of the best party favors I had. Kathy was quick with responses, attentive and nice about the order information, and very great at what she does! The price was very reasonable with the quality of the product. I previously found another shop for 35 dollars a dozen(basic) but if you wanted swirls or toppings it goes up to 60 dollars a dozen. So when I found out the price for Kathy's Kakes (24 dollars per dozen), I was very happy. :)Thank you Kathy! Can't wait to order some more soon!

I. LOVE. CAKE. POPS.Actually, Kathy's Kakes was my first experience with cake pops, and what a darn good experience it was!I bought the $12 for a dozen LivingSocial deal a while back, and I found the perfect opportunity to redeem it. I emailed Kathy on Monday for one dozen regular cake pops (half white chocolate, half red velvet) and requested them for Saturday. She confirmed my order and arranged the pick-up time for 11 AM at Sunset Stationers.Saturday morning, I picked up a cute box of 12 precious cake pops, each individually wrapped. The white chocolate cake pops were wonderfully sweet: rich, dense vanilla cake surrounded by a sweet white chocolate coating. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/kathys-kakes-san-francisco-2?select=LToMGaRAlYr96t4W0zwSNw#wS_cRQ_fsNFIuxcdAe0rDw) From the looks of it, the cake pop is held together with butter--mmmmmm.But my favorite (of 2 haha) was the red velvet. I think it's a yellow cake dyed red, surrounded by the same white chocolate coating and topped with red sprinkles. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/kathys-kakes-san-francisco-2?select=LToMGaRAlYr96t4W0zwSNw#-djSHyOvcytJFMgucuD23A) The cake is not as sweet, which better complements the sweet outer coating of the cake pop.The cake pops were delicious and well-presented, which made them a hit among the recipients. Thanks Kathy!

If you've ever planned a toddler birthday party, you will know how all-consuming and stressful it is to get goodie bags, food, games and location ready for twenty-some kids plus their siblings and parents. Imagine being strapped to a roller coaster ride that just goes down the entire time. Fresh. Hell.Year one is easy. The baby doesn't care what color the frosting is, what flavor the cake is, or if there's a bouncy house nearby. You can pretty much get away with one trip to Safeway and a big tarp. Ten babies on a big tarp with some goldfish crackers...DONE.Year two is a little trickier, however. There is a complexity to the two-year old that can only be described as "picky indifference." They seem to like and dislike everything within a five mile radius of their grabby little hamhock hands and it's up to the parent to figure out how to placate such a conundrum of crazy. When it comes to cake, I found mini cupcakes to be a little hard to manage. Although very cute, there was still issue of the kids attacking the plate and grabbing four. Not cool, two-year old savages. NOT COOL.Kathy's Kakes were a good solution to this issue, since they are all individually wrapped and very appealing to the toddler eye. The kids loved the "pop" aspect of it as well, and there was no big clean up. Awesome for exhausted mommy. They were also very tasty. We ordered strawberry and chocolate with our online coupon, which gave us a dozen for $12. Quite a deal, since it was half price.Year three is coming up. I'm ordering a piñata, buying a Pin the Tail on the Donkey, ordering cake pops...maybe a fire extinguisher. Who knows what kind of debauchery this age will reveal?! Also, whoever invented "The Goodie Bag?" A THOUSAND TIMES I CURSE YOU.(FYI: If you order pops, you will be picking them up at a designated time from what seemed to be a stationary store. I walked past it a few times before realizing this.)

Disaster and Unprofessional!!I ordered two dozen cake pops from Kathy for my daughter's birthday party. We went over what designs my daughter wanted and specifically how she could incorporate the color orange. Kathy was pleased with the color change away from the usual pink request and was excited to be creative. A week later, I dropped my daughter off to school in the morning and told her I would be back in the afternoon when parties are permitted. All the children were very excited and had been waiting for a week for cake pops. My daughter knew they were going to be orange and kept wondering how Kathy would decorate them.I was working in Belmont and had to drive quickly to San Francisco to pick up the cake pops in the afternoon and return to school in Millbrae. Very inconvenient, but thinking it would be worth it. When I arrived to pick up my cake pops... There were NO cake pops for me to pick up. Kathy FORGOT to make my daughters cake pops. I did not get a chance to see Kathy myself because she runs her business out of her home and sells her cake pops out of a stationary store.I scrambled in tears knowing I had no time to spare. I won't go into details about my daughter's broken heart who wanted cake pops more than presents.Kathy said she would give me a refund for the living social deal I bought. I could care less about what you will give me for your mistake and for being unprofessional.I don't thank you for ruining my daughters birthday.

Cool, the first review! I got introduced to KK via an AmazonLocal deal...$12 for a dozen regular cake pops. It's usually $24 so I figured I'd give it a try since V-day was coming up and my wife loves sweets. So the trick is that Kathy doesn't have an actual store you can walk into and see/sample the treats. You check out her website, which is easy to follow, make an order, pay online and then set up the pickup time from a store which allows her to do her business (I think it's her parents' shop). The store is on 9th Street by Pacific Catch so if you drive there, parking is a pain so I just stopped in front of a garage next to the store and the proprietor (i.e., Kathy's Mom) gave me the box of cake pops. It almost felt like a drug deal or something. :D I ended up getting red velvet and chocolate mocha - only allowed 2 flavors with an order of a dozen. The cake pops were so good - especially red velvet! The cake was moist and flavorful, while the outer chocolate coating is just right (not too thick, not too thin). I really liked the texture and the fact that it wasn't too sweet - issues I've seen with other cake pops. They held up really well even after 5 days so definitely high quality. The site touts "Gourmet Cake Pops" so I was skeptical...after tasting them, I am sold! My wife loved them so we'll probably come back for more...likely for a friend's bday or special event. The one flavor I'm itching to try is Ube Coconut (Purple Yam cake): ube cake dipped in purple chocolate, topped with shredded coconut. Sounds tasty! Wish I bought more of the $12 special deal but for $24, I think they're worth it compared to some of the others out there.
