Location is definitely what this place has going for it. It's right next to the zoo and just a few blocks from the beach. There's tons of seating (inside and out) and the beach theme is super cute. Bathroom is also clean, which is a plus especially so close to the beach. Food comes out pretty quickly. It's the type of place where you order at the counter and pick it up yourself. The food itself is very mediocre and super expensive for the portion. We ordered:-smoked salmon bagel (3/5 suuuper small portion for $15)-tsunami sandwich (4/5 good flavors but again for $17 way too small)-chocolate ganache cold brew (4/5) Probably wouldn't come again for the food, but nice vibes for a sunny day.

Great food and VIBE here at both Java Beach locations. I highly recommend the Tsunami sandwich, or the curry chicken salad wrap, both are absolutely FIRE... Support your LOCAL SUNSET NATIVE establishments, and you will NOT be disappointed.

The food is good, always has been. The location is also convenient. Over the years the prices have gone up, a lot...OK fine, but at the same time, the sandwiches seem to have gotten smaller and they no longer provide any chips for free...so not fine. It also happens all too frequently that something key is missing on a salad like avocado for instance...also not fine for when you are paying downtown SF salad prices in the Sunset district.

The sandwiches, beverages and pastries are descent, just a bit pricy. The servers are pleasant. It is located across from the SF Zoo and Ocean beach which is convenient. Street parking is available.

Location is great, right across from the zoo. A neighborhood place. Opens really early for breakfast and I love it. No competitors around. The service was nice, and they offered many varieties. We had breakfast here, plain oatmeal and bagel & cheese. Decent food!

Good but not cheap lunch food, decent coffee, often superb soups, a friendly atmosphere and convenient location make this a really solid choice. The recent elimination of the croissants was pretty sad, though, especially the top-notch spinach feta croissant. They also dropped the truly excellent cole slaw they used to serve with sandwiches and such. Those and other cuts from the menu are the main reasons that I don't think they're quite the five-star place I feel they were a few years ago.Still good though.

Pretty yum! The burrito is nothing special NEEDS SEASONING!!! Like a lot. And the Lox Bagel reminds me of back home, SJ Lox Bagels (with less bagel options) The wait isn't too long as well which is good because were in a rush. Let me say, we (my brother and I) are still loving this little gem.We continue to try "other options", but sadly, this new choice was a big disappointment. Their Beetnik salad - Arugula, Romaine Lettuce, Quinoa, Roasted Beets, Fuji Apple Slices, Chopped Dates, Roasted Almonds & Parmesan Cheese tossed with House-made Green Goddess Dressing.Let's deconstruct it here - It was HUGE, but - No Arugula, no Quinoa, I found 2 beets chopped up in tiny bits, sliver of apple slices, chopped dates, I don't think so. 3 huge dates cut in half, never saw or tasted the parmesan cheese. The house made Greed Goddess Dressing was a deep deep dark green and tasted like Pesto. After I moved all the extra lettuce, I was left with a little pile of the proposed ingredients, not worth $17. Dang folks, they may want to reconsider calling this salad "Beetnik" just for the lack of real beets.Back to the hot subs again, which are the best items on the menu, IMP.

First, the good news. When we stay in the area, this is our go-to breakfast spot. Friendly service, excellent baked goods & coffee, very good (albeit limited) breakfast menu...I love their bacon and egg breakfast burrito, but I miss the sausage and egg breakfast sandwich that remains on the Yelp menu (but is no longer available). I like a bit more variety for multi-day visits.
