Imagine a place where you can fully experience the dining experience by seeing your food being made and purchasing the tea and sauces within the resturant. There is a glass panel in the main room where you see the chefs prep food in real time . In the next room , is some of their chili sauces and merch that you can stroll around after eating . This is more of an elevated American-Chinese fusion .We had the private room with the vintage tables . Service was excellent . They started us with brewing us some fresh Jasmine Dragon Pearl Tea which had a delicate floral taste and prominent Jasmine flavor .My favorite was the perfectly pan fried sheng jian bao , it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside .The Firecracker Kungpao also deserves an honorable mention. Spicy and sweet . I also appreciate the perfectly cut lettuce cups for the minced chicken. Finally, ending dessert with mango shave ice with popping boba was refreshing . The cacao nibs added that extra crunch . It was interesting. Food is amazing. For 6 people, the server recommended we get 12-14 dishes total, we ended up ordering 15 total including dessert and it was more than enough. My favorites were the cucumber skins, XLB soup dumplings, kung pao chicken, and pork buns with Dutch crunch (this was the best I've ever had tbh). For dessert, nothing was a standout. We got the Peking duck fat popcorn - which tasted just like normal caramel popcorn, dessert baos with chocolate which was so bitter, I swear no sugar was in this chocolate (hard pass), and the matcha lava cake which was basically a scoop of matcha ice cream on top of a chocolate cake like small "lava" inside. The inside space was huge, with so many cute items to browse and shop which was mixed amongst all the seating. We went on Wednesday at 5pm (make sure you make a reservation beforehand) and by the time we left around 7pm, it was completely packed with people waiting outside.

One of my all time favorite places to eat at in the city! Definitely make sure you have a reservation booked when dining here! Have only ever gone that route so not sure how long the wait is but it definitely gets busy with folks waiting right outside. Big interior with lots of different locations to sit at depending on the kind of vibe you want that night! We like to always be sat by the kitchen area so we can watch them prepare the food! All the food here is delicious but something I always order every time is the pan fried dumplings and the garlic noodles! Both are a must have! After dinner if you're up for some shopping they also have a small area where you can buy some tea, spices, plates, bowls, cards, anything you can think of! It's a good way to walk off a tiny bit of the food after eating as well.

I've always heard China Live was good, but I never made it a priority to go. When a friend asked about doing dinner one night, I randomly made a reservation here and I am so glad I did. Every dish we ate was delicious. We ordered way too much food, but I have no regrets about it. This is a pretty large restaurant and it definitely gets loud and busy, so a res is a must, but the service was friendly and quick. From the dumplings to seafood, to the vegetables, we didn't have one bad dish. They also have really large private dining spaces that I hope to book someday for work, but I look forward to my next trip here and will come hungry.

What a neat and delicious place! My husband and I were lucky to get a reservation for a Saturday night. There was a long line outside of people waiting to put their name in but it seemed to go quickly because the restaurant itself is surprisingly large. There is a lot of seating, areas to check out items for sale individually, and prep areas to watch things be prepared. Eclectic and clean. We were sat at the countertop by one of the kitchen areas so watched food get prepared while we sat. You order on the paper menu just by checking off what you'd like. Since we were at the countertop, it was a little cramped and took a little while before a server came over but didn't bother us too much. The food was delicious and portions were perfect! The price wasn't too bad considering how many things we got and the quality of the food. Would be a great place for date night or dinner with a group of friends. The SF 5% surcharge and 20% tip are included in the total.

This was a fun place!! Lots of seating in different spaces. You could be near the open concept kitchen. You could sit near the bar. The ambience feels like you're eating in someone's beautiful living room with Asian-Inspired decors. I love the energy of the restaurant and the staff is friendly, helpful and welcoming. Service was amazing! They gave great recommendations as far as how many dishes to order. The food also came out quickly. And everything was beautifully plated and DELICIOUS!! The food is high-end and upscale with excellent flavor profiles I've never experienced in any other Chinese restaurant before! We ordered:"Betelnut" Minced Chicken Lettuce Cup - great flavors and the lettuce cups were trimmed and cut to the right size. Sheng Jian Bao 'SJB' Daily Made Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings - order comes with 5. The waitress added 1 more so we could each have a taste. Hot and juicy is right! So good. Shrimp & Scallop Shumai Dumpling - Also really good. Half Crackling-Skin Cantonese Fragrant Garlic Chicken: OMGOSH!!! This was amazing. The meat was delicate and flavorful and the skin was crispy but not hard to bite. Just perfect!!Tamarind Laced Sweet & Sour Basil Glazed Pork Ribs - Amazing flavor! Meat was tender almost falling off the bone. Miso-Glazed Pan-Roasted Smoked Chilean Sea Bass: I never miss the chance to have sea bass. Perfectly seasoned. Nice and flaky. The cucumbers with ginger flavor were the perfect compliment. Charred Chinese Broccoli, Oyster Mushroom, Roasted Sesame Seeds: If you need a veggie dish, get this! The broccoli was perfectly charred and went very well with the mushrooms. Hong Kong Wok-Fried Egg Noodles with Mushroom & Bok Choy: Another hit at our table! Not spicy but it's got a kick!Taiwan Best Braised Beef Noodle Soup: Tender beef with such a flavorful brothYangzhou Fried Rice: Best fried rice we've ever had. Sesame Soft Serve, Mango Shaved Ice: Fun dessert with lots of textures and flavors. Lychee ice cream: Delicate flavorOverall we had a lovely experience and would love to come back! We went home with full bellies and satisfied palates. Thank you, China Live!!

I grew up with my mother working at a Chinese restaurant; so I've had my fair share of Chinese dishes from her restaurant as well as others.I heard a lot of good things about China Live, so booked a reservation for New Years Eve. I was a bit worried because the restaurant was packed, but there were barely any Chinese people dining when my partner and I walked into the restaurant. However, when the food came out, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the food! The Shen Jian Bao had a really yummy filling and crispy bottom exterior. I really liked how the exterior did not feel super oily while still being crispy. This dish could have been improved if there was more soup/juice inside the bao.I also really enjoyed the texture of the Peking Duck. The meat was tender while the skin has a nice crisp. I do think that the duck was missing some flavor when I compare it to some of the better Peking Ducks I've had in the past.If you enjoy Mapo Tofu that isn't too spicy, China Live does it very well. The one thing that the restaurant could have improved on this dish was making the tofu cubes smaller so that the flavor covers the tofu cubes more thoroughly. Finally, we had to top off our order with a veggie dish. We went with the Sichuan Blistered Green Beans, and extremely happy with our choice. This was probably the favorite dish of the night. There was a lot of balanced flavored with nice crunchy texture.

The food was just alright. The kungpao chicken was not spicy at all and lacked flavor. The luroufan as well wasn't very authentic and they didn't even have the ludan (braised egg) which is iconic to that dish. The mapo tofu was pretty good but nothing crazy. We also ordered the duck in the sesame pockets and it came out cold. the pocket wasn't crispy and the duck was very thickly sliced. Overall wouldn't say it's worth the price.

5 Stars is for the amazing fun upbeat welcoming service. The staff here is incredible and made sure we had everything we needed at any moment. They took group photos for us, brought extra napkins for us without us asking, recommended food items and drinksThe front hosts were also super awesome!! CheersOk ok how about the ambiance? I love it, high ceilings, open space, characters on the ceiling for the extra decor touch, group tables, bright yet not too bright, a lovely vibe hence China Live, lolWhat made this extra fun was the company so make sure to go with a group of friends, a date night, or some time to yourself Food!? Presentation was nice My favorites were the sea bass and veggies with garlic.I was looking forward to the shaved ice, it just adds a bit more funCheers!

I do not get the bad reviews because, to me, China Live is literally perfect! I love coming here for celebrations because the staff is incredibly warm and help make anyone feel special. The interior is beautiful and fun and bustling -- it's a marketplace where you can also buy the restaurant's condiments, teas, and more. This visit, we got the chrysanthemum salad, the bang bang spicy chicken salad with cold noodles, the shanghai fat noodles, and the three types of tofu with beans. Both salads with bursting with freshness and flavor. The chicken salad was spicy and was loaded with nutty roasted sesame paste. Both were hits. The Shanghai fat noodles were also yummy and savory, but they were a bit hard to eat because of the slipperiness. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE TOFU, it was our favourite thing! The bean curd skin added a ton of dimension and both other types of tofu soaked up the garlicky sauce. Definitely get this!I've had dessert here on another occasion and it was so unique and yummy (think it was a sesame/shaved ice riff of some sort), but we were too full from the big portions this time.
