If you're like me, when you look into a bakery case full of fine pastries, you can't really control yourself. So take my advice: Walk to Bernal Basket. The walk up that hill will burn so many calories you'll be able to convince yourself it's ok.This place is legit. The hype is real. And it's as charming as the rest of the neighborhood. The star is the brioche-y cinnamon roll. Intense cinnamon flavor and plenty of fluffy cream cheese frosting. Definitely a lighter dough than most cinnamon rolls but such a strong flavor profile = excellent pastry experience! Also had an apple cider donut. Very good. Not quite the crunchy version directly from a traditional orchard but best in SF, it's a safe bet. Then the third thing I ordered was a Pain Suisse. It was ok. Really wish it had more filling. It tasted more like a croissant with a hint of chocolate and custard. Would have preferred a smaller pastry to make the proportions work better. It was pretty busy but I found space in the parklet and hung out for a while. They actually have heaters if it's cold. Nice touch.Definitely one of my favorite bakeries in the city already.

This is my favorite loaf of whole wheat bread in SF. The coffee beans are from Portland and a little too third wave for me (a classic European bean would suit the offerings here better, IMO), but the drinks are made well.

I come here on average 3-4x per monthWhy I return +'s:+ Quality calories. That means pastries, breads, and sandwiches all are solid menu items for me down+ Friendly staff. I am always greeted with a smile which makes the place even more welcoming+ Consistent quality. When I buy the tiramisu or the salted chocolate chip cookie, I will get the same taste and no less+ Pizza night. Love the options and apparently such a hit that a nearby bakery is starting to do the same thing.+ Seasonal yummies always in play so that I can try something newWhy I avoid -'s:- Hard to visit and park my dogs outside the bakery. Wish they had some latch by the building so I can leash themLove how this team started and love supporting them as they bake away to feed the neighborhood and those who visit.

So glad to have another cute local bakery on Cortland! They sell sandwiches, breads, and of course various savory and sweet baked goods. My favorites are the ham & cheese croissant (pro tip: reheat in your air fryer!) and the seasonal crostock, which is a croissant dough based pastry with jam or other toppings. When I visited most recently, the crostock had fuyu persimmon and pomegranate seeds, but it's always changing.Make sure to stop by if you're looking for a quick treat!

A flying stop to snag a couple of snacks! I love Bernal bakery from the Covid days of the actual basket on the pulley rope to the outside Charlie's and now the brick & mortar on cortland, such a bunch of great people love to see their successes! The pumpkin bread is so good, soft and chewy in the best way with just the right amount of pumpkin spice - their seasonal crostock is always Divine - the Sandos delish and of course the bread itself - rustic country style loaf / boule or baguette always soooo good I could eat and entire stick with butter entirely if unsupervised!

Been following this place on social media for a few months now ever since they opened in Bernal Heights - their sandwiches look so picturesque. We decided on the following:- PROSCIUTTO STRACCIATELLA: 3/5 - bread was tough and tasted a bit stale, prosciutto and cheese and stone fruit filling was tasty but overall was a bit disappointed. Looked better than it tasted - Tiramisu: 2/5 - soggy mess, good strong flavors though - Whole wheat bread: 3/5 - dense, was just ok- pain suisse au chocolat: 4/5 - our favorite of everything we ordered, tasty chocolate pieces, dessert itself was not as flaky but still very good Wouldn't go out of our way for this place again but if we're around next time might try their hot sandwiches.

Cute little spot next to United Dumplings. Came in to try the cinnamon roll but they were out so settled for a peanut butter cookie which was perfectly moist and flavorful without being too sweet. The staff were helpful in finding an alternative and threw in an extra cookie since it was nearing closing time. Will be back to try more soon!

Can't believe we didn't come here sooner! The hazelnut chocolate croissant was soo good! And so was the seasonal crostock bread. The pepperoni pizza came with baking instructions to have it nice and warm and it came out of the oven so delicious and crispy. Looking forward to trying more of their baked goods

Remember when the pandemic first started and people got hella creative with PPE?Hello, maxi pad as a mask and tampons in each nostril! Home-based Bernal Bakery was born during the start of the pandemic in March 2020 where the owners would lower a wicket basket on a pulley to deliver bread to customers on the street. Genius contactless delivery! Several years later after pop-ups in various farmers markets, they've opened their first brick & mortar at the former Little Bee Bakery space. As an ode to how they started, they've named their new bakery: Bernal Basket.M E N UArray of bread, focaccia, muffins, savory + sweet croissants, roman-style pizza, sandwiches, cookies, etc. Hot coffee available. F O O D* Plain Croissant ($4): https://tinyurl.com/mpnnjeuz* Scallion Scroll ($5.50): https://tinyurl.com/msywy2u5* Ham & Cheese Croissant ($5.50): https://tinyurl.com/5hx5mjf6* Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant ($5.50): https://tinyurl.com/ye24p63n* Cinnamon Roll ($5): https://tinyurl.com/pe495k5t* Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie ($3): https://tinyurl.com/3n8h9mufFav items: The shatteringly crispy scallion scroll with scallion tahini cream cheese, dipped in fragrant onion everything mix AND the cinnamon roll with soft brioche base crowned with deliciously salty sweet cream cheese frosting. Overall, happy to see Bernal Basket open up in the hood. Will need to return for their delicious looking pizza by the slice! ;)
